In Sweden they salt the roads = not so nice for the chassi and body in the long term + bigger and wider wheels arent optimal on winter roads, a Audi S4/Mitsubishi Evo beats a Porsche 911 Turbo easy on a ice/snow coverd road in terms of speed. Everything comes from a test, even a Mercedes Benz E 350 4wd beat the Porsche by almost 5seconds over a 800meter track!
The only thing that limits the 911 in the snow is ground clearance. Just like a front dive car the weight of the engine sits over the wheels that drive the car. With a set of Blizzacks or something similar in quality these cars are truly incredible in the snow...
@helicandra On my very steep Pa driveway, I would punch it in reverse and treat the rear weight by putting it in front. All 911's are worse then even a rear drive car in winter with the engine back of the rear wheels. Unless its a C4, I cant see how snows, even on all 4 wheels would help, then add in some hills or mountains and forgetaboutit.

Corollas are mad racers! love the torque offered by the potent 1,8 L engine. #1 in Canada or Asia over any Porsche. 105 hp are more than enuff in the snow.(The equalizer)
Really??? Do you really think that your fwd pos Corolla would take a awd 911? In the snow of Quebec( notice the capital letter in the name of the province) or Northern Ontario, or snow anywhere?? how about on tarmac?? Do you really think your 1.8 liter could do anything other than get groceries and be fuel efficient?
Yep... I can dragrace a Porsche and win on tarmac... you know, this 1,8L engine has 105hp..... I mean, it's a lot and it's enough to smoke any exotic car... think about it..... 105hp!!!! This is one of the worls most powerfull engine, I can go from 0 to 100 (kph of course) in 15 seconds... this is fast as hell!!
Yeah you would kick my ass... But we would both do the 1/4 mile in over 25 seconds... Actually I would do it in 30 because my clutch disk is worn out... DUDE !! WE'RE LIVING ON THE EDGE!!!!
not really. i did fwd for many many yrs.. for my daily driver.. now. it is different than rwd. but just ask saab or BMC mini about fwd. they made many cars look silly in rallies. they just drive differently then rwd. very differently.still fun. ive awd wrx now. it is a riot
i think he crashed into some snow while they wer making this, if u look u can see lots of snow in the front grill, and huge patch on the back rear tail light.
@andrehellm13 You're obviously not a Porsche purist. That iconic shape is why we love them so much! When that changes, it's the end of the world as far as I'm concerned.
yeah u can hang the tail out in any car....but where will u be afterwards? lol. what they are saying is that its easy to control in the harshest of weather, especially snow.
besides, try hangin the tail out around a snowy corner in a FWD car or suv and come back and tell us how it went lol. If u live to tell about it lol.
a tiptronic boxster might be for a woman... but 911's are for men.
on a sidenote, someone told me people who own sports cars usually store their cars in the garage because the salt can mess up the underbelly of a car thus lowering resale value -- is this true? I thought most people didn't like driving in the snow because they'd fishtail like crazy, it's a driving liability is it not?
Gotta get me one after seeing that!

I'd hate to drive it in the winter because of all the damn salt they put on the roads.

The reason people park their fancy sports cars in winter is to keep people driving pieces of junk from sliding into it!

Anybody in any car can hang the tail out around a snowy corner - that sure didn't convince me that it's good winter driver.
C&D, I wish you would have done a more serious assessment and left the horsing around to us amateurs :)
