To say that the NZ dairy industry is implicated in the loss of tropical rain forests is nonsense. Rainforest and habitat loss is due to logging which far exceeds the relatively small area of oil palm cultivation.
To say that NZ imports 25% of the worlds palm kernel production is deliberately misleading. NZ imports expeller cake which is a byproduct amounting to about 2% of total oil palm production. NZ imports about a quarter of that 2%. Next to nothing!
Fonterra aren't the ones cutting down the trees, just because we import palm kernels , it doesnt make US responsible for cutting down the worlds rainforests, and by putting this in the public spotlight, greenpeace is making the whole situation worse than it already is. EVEN if we did stop importing palm kernels, the people cutting down the forests wouldnt STOP cutting them down, the forests are going to shrink regardless of our imports. So why dont you attack the people directly responsible!?!?
