How do you keep it cool? I created one that worked on a oil cooled version and had the actual pulse jet inside the body of the plane with oil coolant which was circulated (and cooled I might add) all by the wind generated from flying... If you dont have anything to cool it (aside from it being outside the plane) how long can you fly it before it over heats? (or does it at all?)
wow good job man how many hours does it take u to make one of those? and is tyhere any practical use for these or is the thrust at that level not there? also wut is the fuel consumption of these things? is it more or less then a normal jet... lbs of thrust compared to amount of fuel?
the ram-air intake causes the reeds to remain open at high speeds. i would suggest a change in intake orientation because it will go MUCH faster with reeds that close at high speeds
Thanks for your response and congratulations for your work. I think price is reasonable but I have some additional questions: Can you tell me what is the size of an equivalent glow engine to your pulse-jet? What type of fuel does it uses? It looks a little bit noisy too, I am right? Would I need something else to put it on on a given airplane? Thanks.
You generally have full power or nothing. Pulsejets can be made to throttle to a degree on the ground but once you're in the air the ram-effect of the airflow tends to cause them to run too lean if you try to throttle them to any degree.
It's a pulsejet. Unlike a turbine, a pulsejet works by repeatedly exploding a mixture of air and fuel in the body of the jet and using the ejected hot gases to create thrust. The same kind of engine as use don the V1 flying-bomb. Google: pulsejet for more information.
That's right. Once the engine is running the ignition is turned off and disconnected. It will continue running all by itself. See my other video on how a pulsejet engine works for more info on the theory behind these engines.
Valved engines can be throttled when run statically but it's not really practical to throttle them when they're in the air due to the ram-effect which tends to simply make them lean-out and stop.
Bruce, just watched your Junk Yard Wars, that was pretty cool. Can't wait 'til you square away problems and have a movie of flight 'til the last drop :); Oh and of cause a ProBro vid. Do you have a preview on YT already :)
Even Barry had to put his fingers in his ears :-) (and for the benefit of those who wonder what we're talking about - Barry is a fellow club-member who is *very* deaf already)
Now that I know the airframe has no vices I'll be able to throw it around a bit more next time and with a new fuel filter I should get the full 2-3 minutes of flying that 20oz of fuel should provide :-)
Well as this was the first flight of this plane and in an unmodified form they tend to have some nasty flying characteristics, I was worried that it might have stalled while turning back towards the runway so I decided to play it safe. As it turns out, my modifications have meant that it is a very docile flyer so I could have done the turn easily without any risk. Still, it's always better to be safe than sorry on a test-flight.

Could a pulsejet be put onto a real plane, or aren't they that efficient?

then it all ignites itself?
