I also saw Wasted Youth many times & "Paris, France" is still my favourite. I found a tiny antique WY badge recently - A very 'Precious' badge. Am I right in saying I saw WY Support The Birthday Party @ The Venue in Victoria? Ironically, I now live in Australia. I think Drugs & Prison were the only reasons WY were not more successful. Please discuss.
Great track by a great band. Saw them many times in the early 80's (Kingston Poly!) and always thought they could and should have been huge. True that this tune is not representative of their 'live' sound it shows how versatile they were. The ''Wild & Wandering' album had some great songs and is indeed under-rated but IMO the production is pretty lame. It never really works if both band and producer are on that shit. Great memories though! Thanx for posting.
@MordaciousFilms Wasted youth may be a lot of things but "bland" isn´t one of them, they dont need to be perfect or "imaginative" to kick ass. They are a HxC punk band, so what did ya expect, complex sonical passages?.
@karrazaki89 I expect nothing more than something unique. And I've heard 'em and they sound like most of the other hardcore bands at the time. So what? Do I need to like them? I like plenty of other hardcore bands...
@MordaciousFilms Ok I get your point, but Wasted Youth wasný generic for it´s time, and still I don´t believe they´re "bland", their song have a lot of power and rawness, and of course you don´t need to like them but calling them bland is a whole other deal.
@karrazaki89 Alright maybe that was not a good description of them. I just don't see why someone can't like punk and also enjoy new wave or whatever this is considered at the same time. I like both.
@supimchloee A psychological examination of your comment reveals that you are a grouchy hater with low self esteem that is fascinated with gay sex and having trouble coming to terms with it.....yikes sucks to be you lol!
MG, how time flies!!! Seems like only yesterday I was a teenage follower of WY. I remember back in in '82 after befriending Rocco Barker, being invited down to Canning Town as a young 18 year old with my then 'blonde' g/friend and being put up woth Rocco and his then G/F, Sue and us being taken to watch them at the infamous BridgeHouse the night of the stripper. Rocco & his G/F were so hospitable, something that will remain wit me for ever. (Good karma to ya Rocco!!!) . Check out their WnW CD.
what a blast from the past-was looking for bridge house on facebook, hung out at the bhs a lot--1977-8 punk days, have lots of great memorys with band and friends--thanks terry.Peter Dalley
I made this video in 1979. It was filmed in the basement studios of City of London Poly in Aldgate East. Part of a video film group called VideoActive. It was filmed with b/w cameras onto U-matic tape and tinted through the time base corrector during edit. Very basic gear. Note the cigarette glow in the background.
these i followed all over london along with alien martian dance and modern english and can remember the canning town pub gig fucking awesome and yes the american rip off shit is just that SHIT
Jealousy isn't that representative of WY really , sounds so much like the velvets , how i didn't notice back in 1980.:) Wish there was more on the net, all my vinyl, now unplayable !!
Didn't Jay Bentley of Bad Religion find himself in this band folowing BR's mid 80's breakup (short lived thankfully, or else I wouldnt've otherwise have been treated to the entirey of 'Stranger than Fiction' while perusing at Seattle's EASY STREET RECORDS) and didn't another member of this band later find himself in VELVET REVOLVER???
I think L.A.'s Wasted Youth is a different band... the hardcore band who gave us "You're a Jerk", "Reagan's In", "Teenage Nark" and others. Not this whimp namesake.
it got married, settled down and sucked corporate cock.New wave, new romantic, goth and emo all owe a big tip of the hatlohat to this band.fucking heroin might have inspired them but it ended up riding them into the ditch like it always does.
it got married, settled down and sucked corporate cock.New wave, new romantic, goth and emo all owe a big tip of the hatlohat to this band.fucking heroin might have inspired them but it ended up riding them into the ditch like it always does.
This just reminds me of all the stuff all the 'now' bands are trying to go for even if they don't realize it. "they pre-dated the goth scene" that little bit is funny. if you think about it they weren't really goth, new wave, or whatever. wish we had more from them.
saw them supporting the only ones in 79 and at some festival in leeds in 1980 top band - you inspired me -and i'm stil playin today thanks for the memories
Well I never. I'm astonished that this even exists. Last time I saw Ken he was trying to fight his addiction, and playing with his band "The Low Gods".
Rocco did his bit to become a daytime TV reality TV show star, having tried to open a hotel outside Barcelona a couple of years ago...you can guess how it went.
I have lots of fond memories of hitching around to see WY.
Shame about the sync, but damn good to see this after all these years. Too young to have seen them live, but remember that when most of the schoolkids around East London were trying to be Mods or soulboys, the more quietly rebelious kids were sporting the 'VW-type' logo on their lapels! Finally, I know what the 'Youth' look like. Wonder what they're all doing now?
wow....this takes me back. First saw them at st andrews uni as support band on the psychedelic furs talk! talk! talk! tour. Amazing gig. "If Tomorrow" is still one of my fav songs of all time, wish someone would post that as well.
Saw them at Stoud Leisure centre. They came on in total darkness with just the glow of a lighted fag. The singer chucks it over his shoulder, sort of spins around and back kicks it into the audience. Best start to a gig I've seen since Thunders came onstage at Cheltenham Town Hall and chucked all the Queen's jubilee flower arrangements into the pit.
thats great info zen i concider wasted youth my fav band of all time i beleive they only did 2 studio albums and one live is this correct or is there anymore more info of them would be great and aprecarated sorry cant spell from father ash
