  • Wow I,m so Stoked i came across your videos, they were very amazingly breathtaking, I am a self taught abstract artist, coming across your videos was a true blessing Thanks you for sharing your techniques! :)

  • Sorry for taking so long to respond. I will respond as soon as I get a chance with answers to your blending question. I also plan to make a video specifically about blending with acrylics. I have had others with the same problem. Thanks.

  • hello Hines, I'm very big fan of you i love your all the paintings and the way you paint it's awesome, like you said it's an adventure to do abstract painting, i need few tips from you if don't mind which brush do you use and how to avoid the brush line while mixing the colors acrylic is very difficult medium to blend the colors please help and post a video of few tips about and blending colors while painting also how to avoid the brush lines , Thanks Hines

  • Thanks very much for the compliment. The approach I take to abstract painting is intuitive. My choice to paint abstracts was to be able to be more expressive and have a lot of fun while painting. The Rammstein song is Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen from the Herzeleid album.

  • wow! You are so inspiring! I especially love how your colors never seem to "muddy" up! It's like even when you are painting to the music and in your "zone" you don't even have to "think" about what colors go with what. You are amazing! By the way, the music you were listening to "Rammstein" ..what song was it?

  • I just love your paintings. I wish I lived close to you so that I could take some classes with you. Would you mind sharing if the spray you use has only water or water plus retarder? Also the Utrecht paints you use, are they the Studios Series type?Thank you so much and congratulations. You have a lot of talent.

  • I use Utrechts Acrylic Artists colors only. The quality is great and I find their heavy body paints don't have that thin flat look that most acrylics typically have. The spray bottles I use have only water in them. I have one large bottle for full spraying and smaller one for fine misting. By controlling the amount of water I put in the paints I can control the viscosity and make them look and feel just like oil paintings. With the wonderful advantage that they dry faster.

  • Absolutely inspiring, you have true passion for your work and it shows. The vigorous attacking of the paint onto canvas almost shows a release for you, Stunning works, one thing that particularly strikes me in these paintings is the use of colours and shade, while they are abstract paintings, the colours flow together perfectly to become one. Thank you :)

  • Very nice video, beatiful colors, you sure are a talented boy. Are the texture detais made of gesso or hard gel? Sorry for my english, best regards from Brazil. Patrícia

  • Hi Patricia.. thanks for the compliments on my video. The textures for my paintings were made from a combination of Golden's light modeling paste, paper, extra coarse pumice stone paste and sometimes dried paint from my palette.

I actually have recently moved away from texturizing my canvases. My new painting are painted on flat canvases with no textures at all. Go to my website and check them out.

  • love this - and i found the statement of 'the canvas speaking' is so true. I start painting and wait for my canvas to tell me what direction to take.

  • I loved the way you describe the "crossing over" getting the flow of creativity started!!! This is so important to the freedom of expression. I have enjoyed our exchanges over the years and I look forward to you stopping by to visit me in my studio as well. I like the new "color" you have recently shown me which has seemed to happen since the birth of you precious son!

    Blessings to you!

  • I like your video a lot, with the different angles to give it interest. I also like to watch an abstract painter work who has a strong foundation. It's obvious that you know what you're doing.

  • You paint so much faster than you used to back in the Tango days. I remember when you started painting abstract and you were telling me about how new and different an experience it was, and I would admire your Dali-like paintings. You really are talented no matter what style you're doing.

  • Thanks for this video! I recently started to paint, a huge difference from all the digital work I normally do and this is the type of process and work that helps to see how the piece of art "becomes", and the explanation of whats going on helps alot too. Thanks for the inspiration. I have a question tho - what kind of paint are you using, and why do you wear the gloves?

  • I am so happy you found my video inspiring. I use Utrecht acrylic paints for all my paintings. I used to be an oil painter but when I began painting abstacts and switched to acrylics, I wanted a brand of paints that had the feel of oils. They are great paints and the heavy body consistency fits my painting techniques. I prefere to use gloves only because it is easier than scrubing my hands after every painting session. It was a little awkard at first but I quickly got used to it.

  • Very interesting! The 212 neighborhood is proud of you!

  • Hines, Thanks for this. It's inspiring and helps me get out of my head.

  • Hey man, nice work. You've inspired me to get down to my studio first chance I get. Can't wait to see more of your work, thanks fore sharing.

  • I keep coming back to your video. I hope you won't mind a question ... what kind of brush are you using? The way in which you're using it, sure tells me it's not like any I have. This is such a great video!

  • Hi NolaGB,

I am so happy you like my video. Regarding my brushes, I use only synthetic brushes with acrylic paints. I find that they release the paint and I get a longer stroke. Natural and brisle brushes are great for oil paints but for acrylic they tend to hold the paint and produce a shorter stroke.

  • Great video! I really love the looseness, the freedom. The work hung on the walls is wonderful! I tend to think way too much and not sure how to turn my head off. Thank you for sharing your creative process.
