Music is much more like when you rub raw hamburger all over yourself in the shower, or when you molest small pink poodles, or when you belch into a recording device.
Then how come you said that nobody likes his music? I like his music. Are you and I the only ones who do? Does that mean that there is something wrong with us? Is there something horrendously unlikeable about Zappa's music that everyone else is able to pick up on but we aren't?
I was really only speaking of his late atonal stuff (I thought I was commenting on a different doc that was about him composing that stuff but that was a different one). Its a lot like contemporary classical music, most people hate it/ don't get it and what I meant in my comment is that it would be cool to be a dude that spends all his time making art that almost nobody cares about and not give a shit/ love doing it. Most of his stuff is relatively popular though.
I've noticed with Zappa's work that albums seemed to catch on 4-5 years after they were released. Y'know after a "mainstream" artist basically ripped off whatever Frank was doing people would find the Zappa album that was the source of it all.
I don't know that Frank's instrumental and chamber music isn't liked. It may not appeal to those who purchased Sheik or Drowning Witch but I think that most Zappa enthusiasts enjoy that part of his work.
On the other hand, I've never got the impression that Frank was writing his music for us. I remember Zakk Wylde saying in a VH1 top 100 artists program that you had to be a musician to even understand FZ's stuff. It sounds kinda elitist and pompous, but I think that he was talking about the atonal work and that the quote was likely taken out of context, kinda like your comment here :).
excuse you,not video tapes, but reel to reel audio tapes from 3m 996 1/4" to Ampex 456 2" - I did not see any video tapes at all. Zappa is a musician not an actor, well.
ok people i read the book the real frank zappa book that was an autobiography that was from a interview he had and this guy made the book because frank didnt want to cause he thought books were boring but he admmitted to taking marajuana between 1962 to 1968 about ten times but he didnt like it he said it hurt his throat and made him tired
You have strange ways of expressing your sympathy: "This shit is meaningless crap." But hey, perhaps that excites you in a weird way. The latter is definitely true, though. You are truly a bona fide idiot par excellence
He can comment if he wants to. This is a public forum. So, it is his business if he chooses to make it so. What's up HiggledyPiggledy, can't take any criticism. You like to dish it out but you can't take it back. Typical bully...."I'm right and any dessent is unacceptable" Just as I thought, the musical Taliban.
No, that's alright with me if you don't like him, I don't care, it's a free world. I'll explain to you why you're an idiot: You said Frank was from Armenia, which is not true. I told you that was bullshit, and you got all upset and distraught. And when people get involved who don't know what its about, I tell them to mind their own business. I could care less about going around and telling people they're idiots because they don't "get it".
There was a user going around with "stewart" as a part of his user name screaming about Zappa's Arabic originsand using Zappa videos as a Muslim propaganda platform. You and I both delevered words to him on another video, if I remember correctly. Thought that that user and PeelTower may have been one and the same.
No idea, might possibly be correct. Peel raved on about his supposed Armenian background for some other weird political propaganda. Perhaps he converted to Islam now
Well, I'm pretty sure, and I'm sure that you're pretty sure, that Zappa was an American. All evidence seems to point to that being the case, anyway :).
Maybe you should entertain the possibility that there are intelligent people with differnet taste to yourself who 'get it' perfectly well and still don't like it.
I long since gave up trying to convince the musical Taliban of anything. Incidentally, of all the bands you presume I listen to, you are wrong in every case.
Incidentally, taste is subjective and to castigate others for not sharing your taste is the mark of a dimwit. I don't care if you fantasize about necrophilia with Zappa.....
You know, chizmo7, you reveal your real hangup....maybe you should listen to the man when he talks about 'those who follow movements turning out to be fools' You are the one who doesn't get it sonny boy, not me. As for Christina Aguilera, I believe she is American isn't she? I prefer something by Bach. Is that 'intellectual' enough for you son?
You're probably still struggling with Bach's two part inventions. Something I played when I was 7. Face it ass wipe, you have made a fool of yourself on this page.
What do you think following Bach is? Talk about a movement! A 258 year old movement.
You think you're cool because you prefer Bach? Everybody likes Bach and is aware of his contributions to music history.
Except for probably you. You're an idiot and you need to crawl back under the rock you came out from SON. I mean BITCH.
I think Zappa was charismatic and interesting and intelligent but his music was eminently forgettable. I don't care who loved him, his music never moved me...not once.
That massive vault contains a lifetime of Frank's work. Live and studio recordings. You have to understand that he was a man that built a home studio and spent 18 hours a day in it.
Great googly moogly!! Now thats a music collection! Would be nice if somehow all this stuff made its way to the public instead of slowly deteriorating in some vault. Man this stuff is history. The family should see if the library of congress would take it.
Yes, that's really all the stuff he's ever done! Also keep in mind that he was one of the first people to ever have one of the first four track recording machines. Les Paul was the other.
thats most of his vault Warner Bro's took controll of most of it but he won a court case in the late 70's to get all his tapes back, their still finding new stuff all the time
Some day, i'll steal that vault

Frank's studio wasn't in the vault (s), there is actually 3 of them, it was in the house in what would have been intended for a den.
Don't worry Seamus, if you don't get Frank's music, you weren't supposed to.
