I agree Michael Crawford is still the best that ever sang this and has a sensuality and mysterious quality that just hypnotizes you. Plus his voice is awesome. I CANNOT put Butler above David though. Even though I'm not crazy about DCs version I do like his pop stuff and at least he can sing. Butler cannot!!! To say Butler is better then Michael on this song or a better singer then David or Mike is a little nutty. When it comes to singing in general give MC or DC over GB period!

Okay, so right now I'm obsessed with both David Cook and the Phantom of the Opera. Then I find this and I'm biting my nails. Oh my God, he did such a great job! The "where you long to be" was so great.

Every person who's sung this seems to bring something to it. (Different sides of Erik) Michael Crawford makes me pity him, Gerard seems Darth Vadery and Cape Swirly with a sexual aspect (growls/whispers) and David Cook is sort of rocky/less opera. Cook's is great.

This song truly show cases his talent. I was exceptionally upset when he won Idol, as I had not heard this side of the performer, just the grungy rocker music that sounds so much like nickelback, and most other bands in that genre. Well done. Andrew Lloyd Webber is high pressure.
