If the idea is to have feminist’s equality and equity then such endeavours would have more devastating effects. Presenting religions and feminism on collision course would certainly contribute more in harming the women struggle then bringing any good. There need to be more balanced approach and discourse and even religions themselves can be used for equal rights of all human beings. Let’s not carried away with our antagonistic notions and manichaean views against religions and especially Islam.
You guys are FUCKED UP! I'm a Christian boy and I'm glad that my bible tells women to cook my food and do whatever I tell them to do. Religion is a vital part of a family to keep stable. Women are put here on earth to feed, fold, and fuck. Remember eve came from adams ribs and eve was the first Hunan being to disobey god. There's a good reason why Islam and Christianity is supposed to keep women under control. No one wants a woman in charge of the world, it will only make things worse.
@bigman1171 Yeah, notice how the US started going against the gender roles clearly underlined in the bible, the country started getting out of control. Feminism is very anti-God and this was stated by some of the first feminists. Whether people realize it or not, feminism has played a major role in the downsizing of the US and western society. The government knows it because ignorant masses are easier to control and manipulate.
You're amazing for spreading the truth. This is appalling. I get chills thinking this is world we're in. I don't understand how religion is even legal. In 2011! It should've been abolished right along with slavery. If you hate racism, you should hate sexism. If you don't, you're just another hypocrite. As long as people stick with religion, women will always be oppressed. Always be chained slaves forever. PC is ruining justice, I tell ya.
@LadyScorpio39 Wrong! The Catholic religion is a feminist religion that prays to Mary. And none of the Catholic men object to this. Compare this with the video called "What Women Want is Worship".
I would agree that islam in general has major problems, as is obvious...sadly, the real reform of islam will largely be much more dependant on the actions of moderate muslims who are working to change things than the west "deciding" what changes need to be made. Not to say that we shouldn't support any reform that happens, and assist where possible.
Ano, I don't support any form of Sharia in the west, for the record. =)
Ahh, difficult issues without easy answers, gotta love them.
The "cultural relativism" movement has sapped a great deal of vigour from the enterprise of the Enlightenment.
The thought that other cultures are equally valid when they demonstrably are not has led to a reaction away from liberal, enlightened movements toward the racism and hatred we are struggling to escape.
Multiculturalism is now perceived as a failed interprise in Europe. But rather than try to seek cultural and educational solutions, barriers of bigotry and hatred are being raised.
I agree Feminism is opposed to Patriarchal religions, particularly Abrahamic religions. The Abrahamic religions begin by telling us that Eve was made to be a servant of Adam and to be submissive. Feminism however regards Eve as an Equal to Adam. Perhaps you could be religious and a feminist, but it would be a reformed religion not a traditional patriarchal religion.
@princessannikki It isn't just Abrahamic religion. Remember the story of Pandora, the woman who loosed all the evils of disease and death onto the world because of her feminine weakness? For an interesting insight see "Deep History and the Brain" by Swail. It's a very good read and you might find the section on the invention of agriculture of particular interest.
I remember you? I think I told you to check out Gerald Massey's books once awhile back? I think at the time you said something like you were done with the channel, and went to an art channel? Or I may have the wrong person!
"A free woman; according to Islam, is considered an open and free target." Patriarchy proscribes acceptable sexuality for women via religion...no matter how they justify it. This is why the "whore" is hated. She is not the socially acceptable wife therefore she may be hurt and abused in anyway men & the "acceptable" women see fit. Women will never be truly free until ALL women are seen as deserving of rights...even "whores."
@Divinity33372 2. Also, I do see how it can be both harmful and helpful to challenge other governments when it comes to the rights of the women in those countries. When we do, it is often the women we want to help that suffer most. Sometimes it is safer for the women in question if we challenge the religion that rules them rather then the actual government that rules them.
All in all, great video. I have made some of these same points myself on my channel...no wonder I like it! :-)~
Great video... Many of these extreme cultural relativistic feminists are strangly more vritical of feminists who point these matters put or feminists in the muslim world.. Sadly.. just sadly..
I think what really needs to be talked about is where our morals come from. Of course it CAN come from the Judeo-Xtian religions but not all people within these religions are upholding patriarchy. As far as talking about Islam, of course I have major problems with Shari'a. It IS misogynist. However, if you mention that on YouTube you get called an Islamophobe. To me it's just another patriarchal dictate for women to shut up about women's oppression. Great video.
@SaelPalani Dear Diana I find sharia especialy in it's ortodox form to be mysogenistic but as is the talmund and what I have been going against me and many other is the paint brush of all muslims to be the same you that it is not true .
"Umm, nobody is talking about muslims so let's not go jump to the islamophobia crap which is where this is headed."
Islamophobia is completely fine in itself. It simply means a fear of the religion of Islam. Some people fear it so much, that they're afraid to leave it... I guess many Muslims are Islamophobes then! Nothing wrong with fearing religion anyway, it has a nasty history.
@SaelPalani Not all muslims are the same, or interpret islam the same way...just as feminists do not all have the same viewpoints. It's a spectrum, just like with all human groups.
@SaelPalani From what i can see on youtube, you only get called an "islamophobe" if you give poorly constructed arguments, which in particularly include logical fallacies, because then ur only appealing to the racists. Two people can share a view but can have arrived at that conclusion through very different means.
liberation theology is not entrenched in patriarchal attitudes, neither are many interpretations of christianity.
i don't respect religion, i respect religious people and realize that they need help and i can't force my spiritual beliefs on people who i'm trying to help through my political activism.
as for islam, i realize you want to expand the "discussion" to that but I really have no comment, I won't get involved in those dicussions.
@iremythpurr I do have certain problems with liberation theology, but I would agree that liberation theology does not inherently support patriarchy. But how do you interpret stoning a woman if she is not a virgin on her wedding night? The texts themselves are patriarchal and no amount of interpretation can square that circle.I dont understand why you dont want to discuss Islam, but that is your perogative. This video was not an attack but me venting on the subject.peace and love and all that stuff :)
well this is a response to my video talking about educating priests and clergy on how to help women in domestic violence situations, which is apparently bowing down to patriarchy. you know, realizing that religious women are often mistrustful of secular organizations and will turn to clergy for help first and foremost.
@iremythpurr I never said you was bowing down to patriarchy, what I am saying is we have different approaches to the issues. That is not an insult. I think we need to remove religion as much as possible (my own stance) and have a really strong and combative secularism. You wish to make accomadation's with the religious people, and that is not a bad thing.
If women are mistrustful of secular organisations it is precisely because of the religion that denigrates secularism. I hope that helps:)
"as for islam, i realize you want to expand the "discussion" to that but I really have no comment, I won't get involved in those dicussions."
So you'll talk about other religions, but not Islam? Well if a Atheist Republican told me he'll talk about Islam, but not Christianity... I would say that politcs prevents him from doing so. The Republican party supports the Christian right to some degree. Anyway, I would like to ask how Islam became part of the politcal left?
@29harveydinio well its quiet alot to explain in one coment. Bascially the several feminist organisations had to work with the Bush government during their time in power on several feminist issues. However a few of the neocons they worked with at religious ties that may have influenced some ofhte policies.
Should they have not worked with them as a matter of protest?
@FriendOregon I don't think there is a problem working with the Bush Government as long as you don't sell out your principles. But I am for the removal of religion as much as possible from the political arena.
you just gave me a good idea, the women who REALLY don't want to wear those veils.. should.. like.. protest along side Muslim men.. with their hijabs on..
and on command take them off... also film it so the world can see how the men really react when the women do not cover themselves.
i heard the picture of 3:45 is actually a CIA man beating women ..lol..who knows.. i saw a video of it.. i don't remember the users name at the moment. but i shall check it out.
i think not speaking out it not just against other cultures obvious wrong doings and injustices is more than just evasion, its disgusting. it’s us standing on a nice cosy pillar and watching the turmoil down below and simple saying well that may not be good enough for me but for all i can know they may like it so just let them get on with it. Reminds me of the class war in late 19th centenary England.

religion has been used by men for thousands of years to repress and control women.
the vatican's position on women is scandalous. to say women cannot be part of the hierarchy in this boys club at the vatican is scandalous.
why any women want to be part of religious is beyond me.
i was raised catholic. but i will never take part in the catholic religion again unless the vatican chooses to make women equal.
