And what the hell were they doing moving at attention, when I was in band in MIDDLE SCHOOL it was drilled into us that you don't move at attention; when we moved at attention we had to march the football field up and back in full uniform with our instruments for an hour, if anyone screwed up another hour was added to our time. >_< I'm disappointed Duke. Very disappointed.

Well, just wait until you get into college... (This was Duke University's band).

High school... I never did anything like that. But college, I was in the Colorado State University marching band, trombone section. Look up a video for suicide trombones, you'll see what I mean.

Hmm, I know that every section had a part during the "No. 5" cadence, where the trombones did the "Suicides."

But, it depends upon the University you go to. If you can get into one where there's a drum corp too, chances are you can do both - drum corp and marching band.

Like Santa Clara University in California.

But, marching band was only a small part of what it meant to be a music major. My buddies were there at CSU because of the specific professors.

What major are you looking at?

Hey no worries. You've got plenty of time before you have to think about a major (area of study, like math, science, journalism, etc).

But what I would encourage you to do, especially if you love music, is pursue everything you can about it. Try out other instruments if you can, learn different clefs (treble and bass mainly) and just explore the world of music in general.

I never regret playing saxophone... so many memories and so much fun in band. Just remember, have fun. :)
