The problem is definitely caused by the hdmi cable. Whenever I start the console without the cable attached it seems to work. The moment I put the cable in I get the red ring shit. Why having the Hdmi plugged in would cause it to crash, I can not even guess. My only theory is that microsoft made this console to fuck up on people so they have to pay for it to be repaired every month or so. What a piece of shit. I'm going to play my N64. Thats right a system from 1997 works better than the xbox.

I took my xbox apart and re-alligned the nylon washers under the x clamps cuz some seemed to have shifted and voila it worked perfect and ive done the same method for 3 red rings too so if ya aint got a warranty try it out i promise you will get some use back out of your xbox other than it being a 300 dollar paperweight..ps since most of the red ring issues are caused by heat baking your console is never a good idea anyway all you need for my method is the tools to take apart the xbox

Your A/V cables may be faulty. Try replacing them with new ones and if that isn't working, make sure the cables are plugged in their slot properly. If that doesn't work, your Xbox 360 may be malfunctioning.

The above solution (the video) is most probably going to do jack shit for your xbox. A short term trick is the above one by xXDARAINMANXx. the idea is that it will remelt the solder, causing the ANA trick to move back. Yes, this works, but it f*cks with other stuff in your xbox. Apart from the towerl trick, using pennies to add pressure to the chip, works, but if possible take it apart (use another tutorial) and try soldeering it back in place, this does the same thing as xXDARAINMANXx's ....

you have to take off cooling fin off gpu and scrape off gell that turned into solid. re place crap, use the same crap to put between computer cpu and cooling block. turn on for few min and let gell do its work. follow everything else stated and it works! i've done it to lots of friends box's and make $50 each one and cost me $20 for gell shit. 1 tube of it i've done around 10! just gotta be smarted that the box!
@wa1teN u covered the vent holes some how and over heated the gpu on the box. maybe put in cabnet with no vent holes and hot air around it created only hot air in box and cooling block on top gpu stoped transfering heat off and box auto shut down to prevent gpu from overheating and burning out!

@lockman776 look on youtube on how to adjust the pot screws inside dvd drive. lazer is weakning and you need to turn up lazer power. all u need is electrical tester and small screwdriver

It could. But, electric tape is ideal because it stays sticky at high heat. Where duct tape gets unadhesive-like when it's at high heat. Do NOT use Masking tape. Masking tape catches on fire VERY easily.

1. Turn your t.v and xbox off, disconnect the A/V cable from the console, then disconnect the A/V'S from the T.V. Then plug back everything in and see if it works.
this might help, a couple of my friends told me that if you get the black dots take out your cord right away it might get rid of the problem, however if u already got the problem, you could try to disconecct your hardrive, turn it on, turni it off, and reconeect it, It worked for my cousin. there is also a 10% chance it could be your A/V cable so try using someone elses. Hope this helps :)

READ MY OTHER COMMENTS FIRST!!!!...from 1 to 2 lights on the left hand side. This is overheating (a.k.a. baking). Leave it like this for 5-6 mins to let the solder get warmed up enough and slide back in place, the pennies will help keep it in place. After that let it cool COMPLETELY. That means about another 30-40 mins UNPLUGGED! After that, plug it in and turn it on. It should work perfectly fine. I've done this to a lot of 360's and it worked EVERY time. READ BELOW FIRST!!!!!! When Baking a 360, remove the DVD drive, HDD, Fan, Fan chamber (white thing). Baking your 360 is when you purposely overheat it to place any of the chips back to it's original place. It's very easy, do NOT towel trick it. Take 2 Q-Tips, pull the cotton off of 1 side on each of them. Stick them in the back to stop the fan from moving. (If you opened your 360 to put the pennies in just leave it uncased and bake it WITHOUT the fan.) Do that until the lights change....
The cause of the problem is (if you don't have HDMI) the ANA chip inside came loose because it overheated and the solder warmed up enough to pop it out of place a little. If you do have HDMI it's in the same spot, it's just called the HANA chip. (Easy right?) There is a simple fix. Take 10 pennies, wrap it in electrical tape, tape it on the HANA/ANA chip. Tape it down really good. Now, Bake your 360 If you don't know what baking is I'll put it in the next comment).

@nabeel374 Are you playing with a VGA cable? Because a similar thing happened to me within hours of changing from the regular AV cable to a VGA cable that I was using with my computer monitor. I unplugged the cable and the power cord from the xbox as well as the from the monitor, waited a few minutes, then plugged them back in and it was fixed. I don't know the cause of the problem is or why this worked, but it may possibly work for you as well.

Happened to me playing the new splinter cell. Playing hunter mode with my cousin, went into comic book mode, did a system restart and got the happy e74 message. I got it working again by disconnecting everything (including hard drive) and letting it sit for awhile. Not sure how long that's gonna work though.
The e74 problem is your Av cable...Thats why you all are getting black dots. Get a new Av cable. And it should work. Message for more details on E74, E73, E68, E69 and so on all the way up to E1333
Anyone get the 1 Red Ring after playing Modern Warfare 2? I had all these wierd black dots plastered over the screen. I ended up leaving and then shutting down my xbox and then this E74 bullshit appears.

i reccomend you not do this, what you should do is use liquid flux on the HANA chip. This will most likely work for about 1hour or so, and then it will shit out on you again and again...... and sof forth

Hey i need some help. I was playing mw2 on Afghan and randomly on the screen a bunch of black dots appeared. I left the game and it stopped I joined my friends session and it continued with the black dots. I back out of the game and go to private match and the black dots appear again. I turn off my 360 and turn it back on and i got E74 the bottom right of my console is on it is a red light. Please someone help me

It could. But, electric tape is ideal because it stays sticky at high heat. Where duct tape gets unadhesive-like when it's at high heat. Do NOT use Masking tape. Masking tape catches on fire VERY easily.

@HAY977 Well you have 4 red lights, try this:
1. Turn your t.v and xbox off, disconnect the A/V cable from the console, then disconnect the A/V'S from the T.V. Then plug back everything in and see if it works.
2. Try a different A/V cable
3. You have to call microsoft..

this might help, a couple of my friends told me that if you get the black dots take out your cord right away it might get rid of the problem, however if u already got the problem, you could try to disconecct your hardrive, turn it on, turni it off, and reconeect it, It worked for my cousin. there is also a 10% chance it could be your A/V cable so try using someone elses. Hope this helps :)

READ MY OTHER COMMENTS FIRST!!!!...from 1 to 2 lights on the left hand side. This is overheating (a.k.a. baking). Leave it like this for 5-6 mins to let the solder get warmed up enough and slide back in place, the pennies will help keep it in place. After that let it cool COMPLETELY. That means about another 30-40 mins UNPLUGGED! After that, plug it in and turn it on. It should work perfectly fine. I've done this to a lot of 360's and it worked EVERY time. READ BELOW FIRST!!!!!! When Baking a 360, remove the DVD drive, HDD, Fan, Fan chamber (white thing). Baking your 360 is when you purposely overheat it to place any of the chips back to it's original place. It's very easy, do NOT towel trick it. Take 2 Q-Tips, pull the cotton off of 1 side on each of them. Stick them in the back to stop the fan from moving. (If you opened your 360 to put the pennies in just leave it uncased and bake it WITHOUT the fan.) Do that until the lights change....

The cause of the problem is (if you don't have HDMI) the ANA chip inside came loose because it overheated and the solder warmed up enough to pop it out of place a little. If you do have HDMI it's in the same spot, it's just called the HANA chip. (Easy right?) There is a simple fix. Take 10 pennies, wrap it in electrical tape, tape it on the HANA/ANA chip. Tape it down really good. Now, Bake your 360 If you don't know what baking is I'll put it in the next comment).

@nabeel374 Are you playing with a VGA cable? Because a similar thing happened to me within hours of changing from the regular AV cable to a VGA cable that I was using with my computer monitor. I unplugged the cable and the power cord from the xbox as well as the from the monitor, waited a few minutes, then plugged them back in and it was fixed. I don't know the cause of the problem is or why this worked, but it may possibly work for you as well.

Happened to me playing the new splinter cell. Playing hunter mode with my cousin, went into comic book mode, did a system restart and got the happy e74 message. I got it working again by disconnecting everything (including hard drive) and letting it sit for awhile. Not sure how long that's gonna work though.

The e74 problem is your Av cable...Thats why you all are getting black dots. Get a new Av cable. And it should work. Message for more details on E74, E73, E68, E69 and so on all the way up to E1333

i reccomend you not do this, what you should do is use liquid flux on the HANA chip. This will most likely work for about 1hour or so, and then it will shit out on you again and again...... and sof forth

Hey i need some help. I was playing mw2 on Afghan and randomly on the screen a bunch of black dots appeared. I left the game and it stopped I joined my friends session and it continued with the black dots. I back out of the game and go to private match and the black dots appear again. I turn off my 360 and turn it back on and i got E74 the bottom right of my console is on it is a red light. Please someone help me
