@SickShizta....You see to us true Christians...it's like Jesus has freed us from the matrix of sin and death! People who don't know Jesus, don't even realized they are trapped in the matrix of sin. Jesus became sin for us and bled and died so we can be united with FATHER GOD. Keep open to His leading.
Not terribly religious, and I've never been one to affiliate with any specific belief system, but this song certainly gets you thinking, which is a strange concept in contemporary culture.
It certainly has opened my eyes to the possibility of an afterlife. The forces of death cannot simply win 100% of the time.
just thought of this right now this song kinda reminds me of lazaraus in the bible and his sisters that wept for him and jesus told them not to weep!!!
I got to see PETRA at the Patriot Center in Virginia. They opened the show for the NEWSBOYS. Awesome message Awesome show. They shot lazers through stained glass windows into the audience. There were more unsaved than Christians at the show . In the middle of the show at altar call over 3,000 men and women went up to accept Christ
@gooseaskreply I believe the date of the show was either late 1993 or early1994.Petra had just released their new album Beyond Belief. The Newsboys were in Fredericksburg because they were still part of Street Cry,where early christian bands came together and played every weekend to a mostly secular audience.
He cast fire into the earth with His first coming, according to what He said in the Gospels, 1Corinthians 15:28 says He comes back to put THE WORLD out and give it to God.
Just close your eyes and listen to this song as a Christian Universalist, AS IF THERE HAD NEVER BEEN a false rapture doctrine, and prepare to accidentally levitate that body! roflol roflol
Not a good song for someone RECENTLY brought into the Christian Universalist paradigm of the 18th Century while one is in a garage! They're liable to pick up the car and throw it through the house in excitement!!!!
Oldie but a goodie of Christian Universalist classics for anyone that's read BOTH Andrew Jukes and Charles Chauncy. Perhaps Elhanan Winchester as well;-)
i haven't heard this since i was in the 5th grade! It's not a bad trip down memory lane (especially after listening to Vinnie Vincent Invasion earlier). Tebow!
When I hear this song, I feel so at peace about all the loss I've been through. It reminds me that there's something even greater after this life is over and I can stop worrying.
Also, this song is really badass. We need more badass gospel music, imo.
@TielMaster Amen. I hope God will strengthen you in your time of loss and suffering. I know it's easy for an outsider to say, but you know it's true that your loved ones are the ones suffering for you. They are waiting for you, happier than they could have ever been in their earthly lives.
This song is awesome! I remember playing it alot on the air when radio station KYLO-105.5 FM Davis/Sacramento was a Christian format. Those were very fond memories. I was "Mike on the mike"!
It's been soooo long since I've heard this song!!!! This was one of my favorites growing up. GREAT SONG and we're closer now than ever!!! Blessings and keep your eyes out for the grave robber.
@ThePrayerwarrior777 You see the like/dislike button? Two hit dislike so was just speculating they don't know Jesus our graverobber, therefore needed some prayer <3
When my Daughter died after 5 days of life, this song and The Holy Spirit helped get me through. It echos the hope that Christians have in The Father for what The Lord Jesus has done for us..
@REVPIPSTER Im sorry to hear that brother and or sister in christ, I lost my uncle when I was about 17 and I still weep over him today even though he was a professing christain, I still miss him, but I know I will see him on the other side of eternity, praise the lord!!!! Also we are supposed to comfort each other like the bible says, peace be unto you, im sorry for your loss
Thank you for posting this song. I got to go to one of their concert as a teen and have enjoyed their music ever since. This song means a lot to me right now because I have recently lost my last grandparent. I can't wait to see them once again with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Classic Petra is back!! New album out and tour starts this year!! If you like classic Petra please vote for them in the reader choice awards .com poll
Just said farewell to a long time friend. Can't describe what this song now means to me. Hasn't hit me this hard since 9 years ago when my dad passed away.
Christian rock could be a great form if they would grow some balls and play as hard and with as much zeal as the secular groups do. There is a lot of good subject matter out there. But I have to say that Petra was probably the very best band of its kind. there was also the REZ band. But their music is getting increasingly hard to find.
@Wtrackerman just playing hard doesn't mean anything though. you need kickass riffs. kinda like the intro to Soilwork's Stabbing the drama and it doesn't have to be hard to be good like Axel Rudi Pells Oceans of Time. amazing slow song... i'm not dissing Petra as they are probably the best christian band out there though this is like the only song i like of em...
@iceddust69 In Christian music's defense, it doesn't have a great name in secular media. The only names anyone outside the scene knows are the worship bands. There are Christian bands out there that rock just a as hard as any secular group. It's just a matter of how hard one is willing to look for them.
@GriffonFortelli dude i grew up only being allowed to listen to christian music(considering my dad is a preacher). i know of more christian rock and pop bands than most other people know. i preach the same words you just did about heavy metal cuz people say Metallica is the greatest metal band out there. but that's only cuz they play on the radio. there is a lot of bands that don't play on the radio that rock harder and have more talent. thats not way popular. btw rock is boring in my opinion
@Wtrackerman If you want hard and heavy Christian rock and metal, have you heard of Tourniquet, Deliverance, Mortification, Vengeance, X-Sinner, Saint, Whitecross, Bloodgood, Barren Cross, Holy Soldier, Pillar, Skillet, and Flyleaf? If not, look up these bands and check 'em out, and listen to them.
This album reminds me of the love and fellowship of my Assembly of God Youth group and the trips we'd make to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I'm going to Tennessee next week with the NSM and While I've not lost sight of the need to defend our Race against Islam, Black Crime and Illegal Immigration, this trip to Tenn will be hate-filled. I miss love.
From contemporary Christian music fan and innocent kid to the American Nazi Party...thanks, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Baker and greedy apostates.
@ThorOdinson14 Hey bud if you can look past all of our sinful tendancies as we all have them, and yeh I know that representing Christ with greed can turn many off, but remember if you can that they can't save you only Jesus can...I also have had many heartaches due to these peoples, but also there are many in the secular world that we tend to follow until they scan us. Look past them to the Saviour of your Soul...Jesus Christ. atruejew@hotmail.com
@ThorOdinson14 You say you miss love? Well your not going to find any around the NSM man. I totally agree with your mission, I just dont agree with the NSM motivation behind it. The only way our country will ever be healed is if we repent and turn back to God. If you remember from your church days we are not to fight against flesh and blood. But it is through prayer and obedience that will bring down the evil principalities. Its time to get back to your Christian values man.
The cool thing about this song is not just the guys voice and his guitar work but they actually put a scripture from the Bible into the lyrics Jesus comes as a thief in the night.
I can't really explain it. He was saying things about how Jesus will come like a thief of the night and some other things like how Jesus will return and the people who didn't worship him and mocked him he will have them burned to the stake it's in the Bible some were but in the song I like it manly because the band uses scriptures from the Bible. That is all I can say. God bless you too.
Hey I met John Slick in Hendersonville at Mallard's restaraunt. He was mega cool. Me, being a fellow keyboardist, we had some good things to chat about. I never got to meet John Schlitt though, but still hope to someday.
no im not by no means. I know by what I do read thats more trust worthy. but who cares. sorry I even brought it up. because its not even worth the fight.
Petra had become defunct by '78, and Bob Hartman was working in a warehouse in Nashville. I moved here in 78, and roomed with Al Hornung, the former Petra sound man. Bob lived in the same apartments. I helped Bob make some song demos, and Star Song Records awarded him a 3-album contract. Petra was reborn at Millwood Apts, Nashville TN in the Spring of '79. I was there; you were not.
ahh, on keyboards, right? sorry my bad! btw, i LOVE the song "Not of this world". I assume u did the Doxology, awesome. whoa, im "chatting" with a former Petra member, so cool! :)
if it was really him-- what is he doing here bullying people that it was really him back then. if i was famous- i wouldnt be on here arguing with people that I was famous.
maybe, unless one is small time famous, and it's all they got to hold onto. i would also think that if a musician has a yt channel, they would have their own videos uploaded. (He told me to dig, so i dug)
doesn't mean you have your facts straight. but i do. i was there. it was long ago. it was a pretty good ride. petra was a great blessing to many young fans.
One of, if not the best Petra song. Brilliantly done. I'm not a christian and am able to see how it is only exploiting our fear of death which religion often does but I still love this song.
soopahsoopah, I'm glad you appreciate the song...i assume for it's musical quality??? However, it's so much more meaningful if/when you come to an understanding of what Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, has done for you to give you an eternal Hope.
What a blessing testimony. It's true, we have a hope: to see our beloved ones again. Personally, I'm waiting to see my little brother. He passaway in 2002, at 19 years old, in an acciddent. Bless you all. UPF
This is my favorite song. It always has been since my best friend passed away at age 17 a couple years ago. It put chills up and down my body like, 43 times... powerful stuff. God Bless all.
One of the most powerful lyrics by Bob Hartmann. A friend of mine worked in a Sunday school with little kids. One day she had a call and started weeping because the caller told her one of the kids that had cancer died. I had an mp3 player loaded with this album so I ran her this song. The last lines ("those who sleep will be awakened" etc. ending with powerful "there will be no pain, no sorrow") comforted her because she knew what it said and she thanked God for that song (and so did I).
@iceddust69 Hey bud I would like to have permission to pray for you because only Jesus can get you out of the grave to either heaven or hell...both are real and Jesus is the really real deal...atruejew@hotmail.com
Just knowing that you listen to this is a good sign. Come into the waters and see what it is like on the other side. A glorious journey awaits you. But it is not an easy life. It is like trying to make it through a jungle with obstacles at every turn; but it is worth the fight.
@ThePrayerwarrior777 nah, already did that multiple times. excepting Jesus as my savior just last year... it just doesn't appeal to me being a christian that is. reading the bible, praying, listening to christian music etc. it bore me honestly. I think i'll choose the wicked way muwahahahaha
My brother Jonathan passed away last saturday. This song remmember me that we'll see one day again, when death will be swallowed in sweed victory :-) God is good
I'm so sorry. I lost a brother some years ago, and, yes, it's hard, but remember: "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever." 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
Bless your heart! I'm so glad this song comforted you - Petra was always so good because they took their words *straight* from Scripture! My Mom still says i learned more Bible verses from Petra than i ever did in Sunday School :-D
Excellent song! One of my favorites. We are just passing through and our bodies a vessel for a soul that will live on forever with the Lord. Looking forward to that day!!!
Me too, amen! I live in a chronically ill/disabled body, so i am REALLY looking forward to the incorruptable one!! This song is just...well, i can't hear these w/o crying! I'm so glad i found these vids this morning. God bless Petra, eh?

Just knowing that you listen to this is a good sign. Come into the waters and see what it is like on the other side. A glorious journey awaits you. But it is not an easy life. It is like trying to make it through a jungle with obstacles at every turn; but it is worth the fight.

@iceddust69 maybe you should consider being a christain??? accept christ in your heart and you will be saved time is short, peace and God bless!!!

I'll be praying for you, fabriponce.
