Perhaps it's time to realize that democracy means rule by the people - that means we rule ourselves - unless citizens take that responsibility seriously (not just vote, but know the issues and candidates, take part in local politics, etc.) then special interests step into that void. There has always been certain percentage of our citizenry who are stone stupid, who know nothing, contribute nothing, uneducated, who are led around by the nose..... They have been called different names over the years.

Today, they are called "teabaggers" or "birthers" or "deathers"..... They don't read, don't vote. They contribute nothing at all.
