hmm...there are lots of people with this mis conception that bio diesel doesnot produce pollution..but actually the case is that bio diesel is at the end diesel, its a fuel which burns and makes smoke but the advantage is that bio diesel has 10% more oxygen content in it hence making the burning less polluting than normal diesel..

If u burn any hydrocarbon u produce pollution.

It is said that bio diesel is carbon neutral as u r only releasing the carbon that the plants absorbed back into atmosphere.

I suppose if u think hard enough u could say the same about coal as that comes from trees etc millions of years ago.

@tpvalley The thing is though, that carbon is trapped below ground. By burning it, it will take millions of years to go back, unlike biofuels, which simply recycle the carbon already in the atmosphere.

But steam engines have such a tiny part in carbon emissions its negligable. I'd rather see a coal fired steam engine be hauling this, but it is too expensive, unfortunatly.

u can run steam trains on bio diesel or veg oil or waster oil like diesels or old wood etc so in theory it should be possible to run a steamer cheaply?

plus steamers can last forever with just simple tools.
