GREAT JOB and a BIG, THANK YOU 4 videos and service to our great nation!

@firewoodguy2009 they come in two main calibers, 7x57mm and .308 winchester. however it can be made in 7mm-08, 243 winchester, 22-250, 8x57 mauser, or any other similar cartridge (anything above 50,000 psi will require reworking the action with modern steels) I use .308 surplus with 147gr ball ammo at 2,620 ft/s, where as normal ammo is 150gr at 2,820 ft/s. still has plenty of power and range, but pressure stays below 50,000
every year i have colected rifles and a spanish mauser is one icould never get my hands on, but the type of rifle i could find with great ease is a mosin nagant, i have ground recievers, stoned bolt lugs and polished cocking ramps and one nagant i have brakes like glass i have dune much cold and hot blueing but i think duracoating is much closer to factory finish
Nice Spanish Short Rifle and I admit does look good
I'm sort of on the fence about this stuff where a gun is redone in a drastic manner like this. Is a common and cheap rifle today but remember lots of common and cheap civil war guns, 1903 Springfields etc were modified years ago that today we look at and think WTF were they thinking !
Rifle does look neat though and you did a good job
I camo dura coated my Desert eagle for hunting, Mine turned out great as well, I had ALOT of pre work to do. as the dura coat would not stick to the black finish Magnum research puts on their standard guns.
the stock looks original this way, the duracoat was it rusted to much? its more servicable but the blue would match that original look , great stock repair precision work, stocks are tuff and real easy to mess up real fast , nice job
Absolutely beautiful. I have a Mosin Nagant that I plan on restoring as you did to this weapon in the video. I just hope I can do as good a wood work as you can. The paint process will be a piece of cake.
This is EXACTLY what I plan to do to mine. Same stock finish, same Duracoat color. Looks amazing. My wife was afraid it would look too "new," but this is just classy as hell. Thank you for showing this and confirming my idea. Maybe ill do my 91/30 as well. Looks awesome.
I have a rifle like this one but can't find any markings as to what caliber it is. What is the caliber of the rifle you have? I keep forgetting to have the chamber/bore measured.
Is this rifle an original 1930 Fabricade Armas or is it a remake? Mine looks just like yours and it says Oviedo which I'm assuming is place in Spain where these were manufactured. Also is this chambered in .308?
Hey, Im trying to restore a mouser rifle my stock was going to make and the stock he had has a bolt tool thing imbedded in it, like right in the middle sticking out. i see no way to remove it without hurting the stock itself, is it fine if i just sand over it or should i just try to go around it? Also at around 1:29 the metal piece in the stock, is it removable or do you have to sand around that too? Thanks
I have the exact same rifle. I always shoot reduced loads. I don't trust the bolt very much. I believe it was bored out to 308 from 7mm. to match nato.
CHECK OUT MY KAR 98. IT is all original and the best example on youtube and in the world. I have many videos of it on my youtube channel. Great video and great gun, RH DSD

Im looking to Duracoat a couple rifles in the near future, and this video was very helpful. I saved it to my favorites for reference. Glade to see the results came out so well for you. Thanks again. Jet
hi first of all i love vids man. i have a few guns that ive blued and i would like to duracoat then because the blue just didnt work as well as i would like. i was wondering about some of the moving parts like the sites bolt relest hammer and triger. do i have to take all this apart? the guns i want to do are .303 brit. and 2 single shot 12s also have mouser and stevens bolt action 12s ill be dooing soon.
Thats an absolutely beatiful job!!! Great work. I'm looking into Duracoat mostly to repaint (and protect from rust) an ugly home defense shotgun. But I think I'll do a Mauser and Mosin too. Can you give any tips for a novice Duracoater??
Hey, nice video! I have .308 spanish mauser, but it is not in good shape like yours. I wonder what that number with 5 digits means (28435) you can see it 5:54, my number is 24699. Model type or date perhaps? I've been trying to find that out, hope you can help me.
Hey, I've been watching your videos as instruction for my first attempt at refinishing a surplus m24/47. You've done a great job with these and I was hoping you can tell me what you used to get that matte finish on the stock because that's exactly what I want for mine.
Glad your enjoying the videos. Myself and Chad enjoy making them.
I will have to ask Chad to see for sure exactly what he did, but if I am not mistaken I think he just stained the stock and used a few coats of Bayer tung oil. After applying the tung oil, he probably just buffed it down to a matte finish rather than a gloss. You can use 1200-1500 grit wet paper or 0000 steel wool to buff out the finish to make it more matte colored.
@happycharlie88 Boiled linseed oil is your best bet, or you can just take tru-oil and once you've applied the amount of coats you want, you can knock the shine down to nothing with 0000 steel wool.
Man that looks nice. I really like that dark, flat blue blue color, it looks especially nice around the steel bolt. I was just given a Chilean 7mm Mauser that needs some work. Wish I had the tools and know-how to make it look this nice!
Okay...I was wondering. If you were local, I'd say you could bring it by and let me refinish it for it. I don't have an FFL yet, but we are working on it.
Absolutely beautiful, I would buy it in a second. Great finish work on the stock too. I can't express how impressed by your work. How well has this finish held up to average use?
I have a FR8 Spanish Mauser in 7.62x51 I used a zinc phosphate parkerizing solution. This finish is now eight years old. The oiled surface is starting to get that nice green hue. It has a short barrel so it is a flame thrower with NATO ammunition.
Dura coat seems to have a mind to its own when it comes to tint. I used the gun blue color duracoat on a Bren MK2 and it came out purple looking, so yours came out better than mine!
same here mine came out looking like those sweaters that you think are black but when u look closer its dark blue. i dont like it so i blasted it off and used the olive on a enfield 2a with coyote tan on a synthetic sporter stock and it looked sweet. i later blasted that off to practice parkerizing and it looks great. im not having any luck w the stainlessduracoat though so i would appreciate any advice on that one.
my only advice would be to add more hardener if it is not bright enough. Usually you can't get paint to mirror the quality of real stainless or chrome.
SUPER! i dont like a glossy stock. this gun is very nice and you should make some money on the side doing this, no kidding! this truly is what i like most about guns. thanks and HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!
wow you guys did an absolutely beautiful job, but i think if you sanded down and polished the rear sight ladder it would look nicer with a shine to it.
Damn, that is nice. How did your stock originally come? Was it scratched and the finish was coming off. Sorry didn't see your other video. Anyways, when I got my mauser, the stock was in...I would say good condition with some scratches and the finish was coming off. If yours was like this, what all did you do to remove the old finish and put up this beatiful new one? Thx.
beautiful rifle.....what color stain did chad use? looks to dark to be miniwax gunstock stain. Your giving me some ideas. I saw this turk mauser over the weekend for 130 bucks. The bluing was almost gone , would be great for fixing up....when are u gonna get that shop going so i could take advantage of your talents?
Impressive work on the stock. Looks new. I definitely like it.
What I'm not sure about is the Duracoat job on the metal parts.
Don't get me wrong, you made an amazing job there too - i would have left some spots unfinished - it's just that Duracoat on a Mauser.. well.. that doesn't sound right.
I know guns are made for firing, but this particular lot could easily be made a display piece. Excellent job on this one, man. Beautiful finish and very appealing to the eye.
Looking at the photo's at the end, there's a spot he missed on the front swivel ring, the underside on fitting!! I have to leave my guns practically "Wet" with oil to prevent corrosion as the humidity is so high here 50-80% all year round a little higher in the winter,I',m giving napier Formula X a go at the moment, its a vapor phase anti rust so should get into the nooks and crannies, last thing I want is oil soaked stocks.
What is the barrel wear like on these rifles?Do either show excessive use in their bores or actions?Have you headspaced these rifles to see how tight they are?
@Iraqveteran8888 Thanks for the replies Eric, that answers my queries, keep up the excellent work,I would like to wish you, your family and friends a Merry Christmas and a prosperous happy new year : ),Stewart.
Eric, both you guys have done an excellent job on that. Just as the first one, you all hit another one out of the park. +5, excellent.... You all really have an act for this type of work...
Very nice job. What did you use on the wood? I remember your give away, but don't remember what you put on the furnicher. Do you have any leads on any ger, or yugo mausers for sale? I've been looking around and getting alot of sold out, and back order.

Bore slugs right at .308"
Rifling and muzzle look good.
Slight oblong chamber, but everything headspaces safely.

Thanks for all the positive comments from Eric and myself. This was a fun project.
To Geochron:
I used 10 coats of Behr #600 Tung Oil finish with a final buff using #0000 steel wool over a dye finish.
