  • Gotta say that "tone comparisons" are always gonna be unconvincing on Youtube. Better to just say how it feels.

For my part, I also disagree with the "fast players might not like this" angle: I'm able to play all my really fast stuff more easily with the 8.25mm "Psycho" I recently bought, and that's a big pig in all directions. :)

    They're very good picks IMHO.

  • I've had a number of V-picks. My favorites are the med thin pointed. They do offer considerably stronger tone than any off the shelf pick i've tried. I've tried many other v-picks and they all seem to offer something different. I still use jazz III's pretty regularly, but the v-picks offer more tone, especially with thinner strings.

  • i am planning to buy vpicks screamer 2.75mm and switchblade. I am looking for tone, volume and speed. Will these be ok? What do you recommend. Please reply.

  • @j0sHoo7 Those are a bit big if that's what you like. My favorites are the small pointed lite and Chicken pickers. They are all good though..

  • I bought a dunlop big stubby guitar pick that was size extra extra large. It was 3mm thick. I got a v pick from the guitarist in headsick. That was also 3mm. THis was a size medium, wtf!?

  • Over Priced and Over Rated IMHO.

  • @wildhorsestudios1421 I say if a $0.35 dunlop tortex feels like butter why the heck would I buy a $5.00 pick that feels like I'm playing with a silver dollar?

  • @brandon9271 lol, only because you can?

  • @wildhorsestudios1421 I could jab a pencil in my ear too.. but I'm not gunna! ;P

  • @brandon9271 Ouch. They'd be ok for 75 cents for most folks. I've got two but it's all relative.

  • Hey there Dave!

I have a question, just out of curiosity, the nite-glow V picks are not transparent are they?

  • @Shallafy No, they're kind of green. :-)

  • @Wallimann

    Thank you for the info!

    I'm getting myself some V-picks! :b

  • Do you use V-picks exclusively? I use Dunlop pitch black jazz and I really like the size, what would the comparative size of the V-pick to the Dunlop i use?

  • @Metal6string Yeah I do.. I haven't tried the Dunlops Jazz. The small pointed V-Picks I use are similar to the Jazz 3s...

  • @Wallimann I really really reccomend the junior dimension if you are coming over from Jazz 3's

  • i brought one today at rudys music store in NY i love it

  • @MyComputerwizard Awesome!

  • I personally have every V-pick (and more) Walliman tried out in this video, and this review is accurate. Good job!

  • @elias909antonas Thanks!

  • @Wallimann __actually...thanks to you! I have watched numerous of your videos, and they are all very good indeed. You have a nice demeanour, and your instructive and playing skills are top notch. I think I've also noticed you on the ElevenRackPresets site of which I'm also a member. Kudos!!

  • @elias909antonas :-) Yeah, that was me on the elevenrackpreset site. It's a cool site!

  • Scott Stapp??

  • Wish you had mic'd the amp. Decent review

  • @localvandals Thanks man, yeah.. That would have been cool, I agree. :-)

  • traditional 4.0 fatty is my favorite, but 10 bucks each. I think custom colors should be added as well. i dropped a 10 dollar pick and being its clear , its hard to find.

  • @bluesmann8 Yeah, colors would be nice!!!

  • @bluesmann8 thats why i bought the glow in the dark one :O))

  • @ravenshield56 Ah yeah, those are nice!

  • @Wallimann ant wait for it to come! :) I think its the medium pointed

  • @Wallimann yay i got them the other day, really nice picks, he sent me a free ultra lite pointed, but strangely i recieved another package today with 2 more picks in1 i got another glow in the dark large pointed, and a free medium rounded o.O and I only ordered the glo pick in the first place!

  • @ravenshield56 Awesome! Yeah, that sounds like Vinni, the guy is a monster of generosity!

  • @Wallimann dman right :) what a guy

  • Great picks. They glue to the fingers and does help. I have three different ones and suit everything I play. They are expensive so be smart and don;t lose them

  • @nsilvanet They are hard to find when you lose the, that's true!

  • is it the thickness of the picks that makes them easier to play with? (well and the grip obviously) just wondering, because i'm considering getting one, but i want to make sure i get the right one since its not just like 50 cents per pick. i was looking at the one you like here and the dimension pick. does a thicker pick help you play faster?

    thanks

  • @Force2BRW I think the thickness helps because it won't "bend" like the plastic thin ones do. Therefore you will have more control on your notes.

  • These interest me, at the moment I play with a 2.0mm pick.

  • @TimJMorrison I think you'll like them!

  • Stringsdirect.co.uk sells them in the UK - about the only place I've found, should be cheaper than importing

  • 1 or 2 years ago i went to santana's concert in quito ecuador it was awesome

  • @tefolase Cool! I've never seen him liv, would love to!

  • i would like to try them ,,but just to get one cost $9.00 sent to the uk

  • @col33145 I know man, they are pricey!

  • @Wallimann i will just have to bite the bullet and just bye one or two ,,just because i think they sound so good when you use them,,i have a few big stubby 3.00mm jim dunlop usa picks witch sounds similar ,also i have been looking a red bear picks ,they also sound very good, but $10/20 for one ,,

  • @col33145 Let me know when you get one, and what you think! :-)

  • @Wallimann will do Dave ,,

  • Nice review , what guitar are you using in video?

  • @PTKBR Thanks buddy! It;s a Parker Nitefly.

  • Carlos Santana isn't mentioned anywhere on the V Pick website, his brother is tho....... never heard of his brother doing much......

  • @darkvoid86 Haven't heard of his bro either.

But Carlos does use them, check out the home page:

"It is an honor to say that Carlos Santana plays V-Picks Guitar Picks in the studio and live! "

  • Hey David! Great video as usual. Do you know how I can get some V-Picks if I don't have any money?

  • @Alphastyx7 Haha! Thanks!

I don't know man, I wish I had the power to give you some free ones, but I don't... :-/

  • @Wallimann Ok. Thanks though!. A local music store sells these (thank the Lord!) but he charges TEN dollars for just ONE pick! Outrageous. BUT, I tried the Screamer and the Tradtion. The Screamer is absolutely amazing. Sounds amazing on acoustics and is very easy to play fast. Overall amazing pick. Is the Screamer and the Acoustic the same design? They look exactly the same.

  • @Alphastyx7 Wow! That is expensive!

I'm not sure about the difference between the screamer and acoustic, I haven't tried the acoustic.. It might have been released after I did my test?

You should email Vinni at V-Picks and ask him. He's a very very nice guy and will help you I know. Tell him to give you the Wallimann treatment! ;-)

  • @Wallimann Way ahead of you! His son just gave me Vinni's email address, and we're going to talk about me doing reviews on them. They sound like a very nice family! And, if I may ask, what exactly is 'the Wallimann treatment'? :)

  • i have one pick that is excactly like the "freakizly large pick" but white. i really can't play with it as well as with my fav pick :(

  • @TommittajaFIN Yeah, those picks are quite difficult to use.. Good training tools though!

  • is it me or is this "V-pick" complete bullshit " it gets out the accuracy of the tone" wtf does that even mean

  • @bugkillah I would not have done the video without being paid at all if I didn't like V-Picks...

Of course I am not expecting everyone to like them!

  • @bugkillah I play with the 2.75mm "Screamer" V-Pick and I think that the tone thing is a bit like this;

"V-Picks are to a regular pick as a regular pick is to the ball of your thumb". Not quite as radical but that's the general idea. The "Screamer" V-Pick has a kind of midrange scoop built-in to it's design. The only real way to find out is to treat yourself and try out the V-Pick, go on their site and choose a couple to try. I did and didn't regret it.

  • @massif20022000 Great! Glad you like the screamers! :-)

  • how about some video on shoe lashes? as we don't see them in this video you're probably still running some tests and experiments to find out which model is just right?

    just joking, very nice video!

please do some research on violin rosin for me though =)

  • Good suggestion! :-)

  • этот медиатор для бас гитары))

  • What? :-)

  • I'm hearing the acoustic sound of the pick hitting the string louder than the guitar coming out of the amp. I think the vocal mic is picking too much. Amp should be louder.

PS I totally agree with Kitarist88!

  • Good suggestion! :-)

  • It really doesnt matter with what kind of pick you play. Its just you and your fingers and your sense of dynamics. Picks may put some ease but not by much its all you actually and your soul.

I played with coins, self made plastic picks made from plastic cans and so on.

    Anyway good presentation

  • Thanks man.

I personally did find a big difference in my playing and tone with these picks. I'm not being paid by V-Picks by the way! :-)

But I guess it depends on everyone. It did change a lot for me!

  • coins... really?

  • you havent used this pick :P

When my friend handed it yo me i thought it'd be goofy and awkward put it really speeds up your playing

    but

your left hand wont change :)

  • Kind of sucks that the only 3 picks I'd really want(Psycho,Colossal,Insanity)are really effing expensive.

  • Andrienne got it ... this is retarded .... use an accoustic or an electric with a clean tone and compare with common picks like a Dunlop 1mm black Nylon for tone

  • I understand what you mean, I should have compared with other picks which I probably will do in a next video.

But in the end, it's always going to be a matter of you actually trying the pick for yourself.

I realize that some people will love them and some won't. I realy fell in love with them and can't play with anything else now... I'll probably do another one sometime.

  • Nice review David,cool playing too! :)

  • No, a useless review!

I accept the limitations of trying to put a review across in a compressed video format, tine is compromised, but what's with all that echo and reverb?

If you want to talk about tone, kill the effects, use a simple, clean old fashioned amp and let's actually hear what it sounds like.

I am interested in the picks, and this video has done nothing to inform me.

  • @AdrienneO you do realize you just sound like a pretentious dick? and could you define a "clean old fashioned amp?" i'm guessing most people have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

  • @IBPsychExperiment bullshit

  • @AdrienneO

I agree. This review is useless.

Just play straight into an amp, and quickly switch between various picks. (where's the comparisons?) Do lead then do rhythm. If V-pick is really sonically better, we'll hear it.

Of course, if V-pick simply FEELS better, YouTube 'aint gonna' get it done.

  • Well said! Personally I love my small .88s and things very very close to that range but these giant V picks are great in my opinion, the material and thickness changed quite a bit beyond the standard guitar pick

  • nice one david!

  • Nice review David!

  • I actually work for V-Picks, and I can honestly say that I don't think we've ever created a demonstration video this in-depth and convincing. This is awesome.

  • @kaelithianas Proof.

  • Thanks man,

I'm using a Roland Boss GT8 direct into the soundcard.

  • nice review what amp you using?
