@FeralArtist Oh they did, but an RR1 is a high-quality guitar. I have more than one amp so trading something I hate for something I love didn't mean I had to stick to an amp for amp trade. =)
@atyourlasthourrr I used to play around with Kranks, never owned one, but had frequent play time with one, heres the skinny. The tone comes primarily from the head. That krunch is 100% Krank!!! However, the Krank cab really makes the lows that this thing puts out very pronounced. Are you familiar with Crate? This is pretty much a tube version of the Flexwave. It just has a little less mids. You could get away with a Crate cab and be alright if you wanna cheaper cab.
Well idk man, I'm looking into investing in a new setup..right now i run a ValveKing head on top of a Madison Mg cab with a pedal board that includes a TS-808 a Sonic Stomp and a MXR 10 band EQ..I'm pretty sold on getting an Orange cab, but I'm between a dual rec and a Krank Rev +1 on the head..i like the simplicity of the the krank but ive heard both good and bad from it..and well the dual rec speaks for itself..any suggestions?
@atyourlasthourrr Triple Rect all the way if ur goin for a recto. Since ur lookin at amps like Krank and Mesa, I bet ur doing alot of numetal shit with the drop C, B, and A# and stuff eh? You need to tell me what kind of tone ur after. Each amp is good for certain things and bad for certain things...hell I find my tone that I was looking for on Mesas, Kranks, and Engl Blackmores, on a fucking Fender lol!!! Are u looking for chuck with some treble bite, a scooped tone, or just serious crunch?
@Hendrixidol Well man idk, I'm looking for a really clean and distorted tone, not so scooped, maybe mid boost if anything coz i mostly do leads, but at the same time i play a lot of cleans so i need something that can handle that as well. I know the ideal amp for me is an Engl powerball but thats kinda out of reach for me. In terms of tone, im looking for something like BTBAM and necrophagist. and i play Drop C and C# standard, anything lower is toneless imo
Ive had a Krank amp now for about 7 months and i dont think i want to play anything ever again. I've never played on a Marshall, but one day i will have a krank stack. right now it's perfect for me. can anyone tell me what the Krank Distortus Maximus Distortion Pedal is like?
Very interesting how you ears lead you to this amp. I appreciate your honesty and opinion. I do havr the as I lay dying album. I think its called Oceans between us. great sounding guitar work. They really let the guitar do the work. Like Pantera did. Some bands have that brittle tone with the guitar and over saturate the mix with a deep bass guitar. Not my taste though. Daath is another band you should listen to. They have insane guitar work. And as you say.. Krank It !!~
Took your advice and downloaded the album Daath 2009 and its very good! Need to listen to it a few more times in my car with the bass Kranked to get the feel for it...lol! Thanks once again! Krank it!
Yeah bur I have tried all there is. Im kind of a sound freak. Very critical on sound. Know ing that there is a lot that goes into sound,,, and the overall mix. But I can honestly say that not alot of amps can produce say a Justice type sound, and even herder to achieve a DIMEBAG tone. His tone is ON POINT. My fav of all time. I like his older tone compared to his Damageplan tone. I still think Krank is the shit though.
Old school Pantera was using solid state amps at the time as far as I know. When Dimebag recorded Damageplan he was using a Krankenstein. Personally for me today's sounding Krank amps are way more crunchy, jugging, thick metalcore sounding than old school 80's and 90's solid state amps...Krank it!
Most amps can sound old school if you tune it in right. If you want to know how this amp really sounds from a popular band try and listen to " As I Lay Dying " the 2007 year album. They recorded the album with a Krank Rev. Krank it!
Does it sound like that without pedals? Is that a dry amp sound? Meaning all amp and guitar? No effects? Wonder what it would sound like the more gain? I think im going to pick one up
Only petals are noise gate and a reverb petal through the effects loops. That's it. The rest is all amp. This amp sounds good at high volume around 4 and up. If you plan to play at low you will be disappointed. This amp was made to play loud and nothing else. Hope this was helpful...Krank It!
Thanks! I do like the mesa boogie which i owned a couple of years back. It has a beautiful sound but was missing that certain edge that the krank filled in for me. As for the 6505 it sound deadly at low volume but seems to loose its warmth when volume is turned high. Just my opinion of course and thanks again for your post...Krank It!

@bedofrazorsqwerty You gotta turn up the volume to 6 or 7 on these amps.
