Ok simple as this everyone who see the cockatoo with no feathers strange or weird should not own a cockatoo or maybe any bird at that. I look at that bird and see a situation far to common, I don't see an ugly, or mistreated bird. There are many reason a bird can pluck, even a HIGHLY loved and cared for bird, things as little as moving a cage in a room can stress a bird causing them to pluck. The bird seems happy. And remember if a bird ruins its follicles the feathers will never grow back.
@datqtreppin107 Could be that she rescued the bird and it had already plucked the feathers before she got it. If so, I commend her on taking a bird most wouldn't want to take care of.
thanks for the advice my bird is really improving i will have videos of her up soon her name is cookie shes a unbrella cocatoo shes white withe light pink feathers
It's a cockatoo. Their prone to pulling out their feathers due to stress, which is obviously what has happened in this case (I'm assuming that this is a rehomed bird that was neglected in it's initial house)
Not neccesarily mistreatment: The "Ugly bird in the background " is an umbrella cockatoo from Indonesia, & many (Esp Larger Parrots) "feather pluck " out of boredom, nervousness, overstimulation, or attention seeking, as most birds have the brain of a 2-5 yr old child & want interesting things happening all the time. Quite common, but like most people i know who have nervous disorders, depends on the bird.
she may have been just rescued...from families who think exotic birds are cute for pictures and show off to friends...they usually end up like that from mistreatment.
great..! i have a gray parrot and a green one both are 5 years old i trained them both talks very well the green one stands on my finger. wanna train any parrot get him when he is very small :)
Most likely the bird pulls it's feathers out. Some birds do this out of boredom, some do it because they were' properly weaned from their parents. Honestly there's lots of reasons, no two birds are the same.
I love your videos. They've really helped me to understand my parrot better and helped with his training. He's a rescue bird and had some bad habits, but I've been able to modify some of his bad behavior and encourage a better relationship with him. Thanks!

the poor bird is naked! they pluck their feathers when they are bored so get her something like a toy with straws or a straw broom for her to pluck so she will leave her feathers alone.
don't try to touch him, he doesn't understand you don't want to hurt it, you've got to make HIM want to come to YOU. just give him food trhough the bars of his cage, than through the cage door, till he gets used to come towards your hand with food in. don't try to catch him or touch when he comes. get him to step on your hand to get the food. remember at first they nip to see if the hand is steady so never pull away. tough it out. mail me if you need more tips
How do I get my Sun Conure to come up on my finger? It used to before I took it to the vet around the first time I got it, but since then when it felt nearly violated it now only comes up on our finger only if it lands on the floor but then ends up preferring our shoulders. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Your bird has made the association of stepping onto your hand means going to the vet. Birds remember these things, and they can take time to fix them. You can try target training the bird, then using that to get it to step onto your hand. Don't try to force him, and alway end training sessions on a positive note. Don't take him out of the cage the first time he steps up either, give him time to retrust you again.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. Though that happened about well over a year ago, I know s/he has grown to love me and it positively shows it by flying to me everytime I pass by the cage when I leave it open. Anyway I understood most of the advice I've picked up from the videos, books and you as well but how do you target train?
Target training is easy. You get a chop stick or some other kind of stick that is safe for the bird, a clicker, and his favorite treats. You offer the end of the stick to the bird, and it he bites it, click the clicker, and give him a reward. You can start getting him used to the clicker by just clicking, then rewarding. He'll eventually understand the click means treat, so he won't be scared of it.
You need to make it more rewarding for the bird to stay with you then to fly away from you. You could also clip their wings. It's harmless and the feathers grow back after their next molt. By offering fun toys the bird likes, or giving it rewards for just standing on your hand can convince the bird that being with you is more fun than flying away. Also, positive training sessions with your bird will definately brighten their mood towards you!
Missy Bird is an Umbrella Cockatoo, one of the larger subspecies. Cockatoos/Eclectus/Macaws can be prone to feather destruction or plucking.
Parrots are not domesticated, even though they are now bred in homes. We don't always understand what causes plucking.
Many times when they reach puberty they start plucking. Other reasons can be illness, infection, improper diet/nutrition, etc. Sometimes you never know. After enough time, the feathers just don't grow back anymore.
