  • the bass drum in the back's tilt is bugging me

  • My high school orchestras doing this for la. Sounds much much better when we play. Violins FTW!!!!!

  • Bravo Bravo!

  • And OMG the Basses sound atrocious!!!!!!! And I'm a Bassist!!!!!!

  • A little TOO slow...but otherwise better than the crap I hearing on youtube....

  • And these kids are how old? If my memory serves correct there's a lil' bit of 3rd position in this song. Plus they nailed the semi-fast part, nice.

  • Im an experienced violinist. No offense but it looked sort of lazy until the end... Put more feeling into it.

  • This is REEEAAAALLLY slow.

My orchestra does it so much faster lol

  • You can't here the poor viola's

  • I've never seen a school orchestra with soo many bassist! That's amazing lol. But they sound good for middle schoolers. I know my middle school orchestra didn't sound like that lol :)

  • wohooo! Mr. Masaki u rock!

  • ehh they get an ok i guess

  • whats around the conductor's neck?

  • It's a lei. I think they give those on a special occasion....it was like that for me at least.

  • ah, yeah i guess that makes sense, they're wearing hawaiian shirts too. it looked like an octopus or something at first lol

  • lol....we're playing this in my orchestra

  • The firsts were actually not that great, the first chair cello did not vibrate at all and you could tell. But overall it was ok.

  • Next!

  • im glad i dint have to wear that uniform

  • i play this song at school we sound pretty good, the students in this need to do accents

well thats what my school does

  • Alas, this was taken at a greater time. An age where all was happy.

  • 。.。.。.。.。. 好难听 全都走音了

  • um...

    ya...

i have to play this songn for chamber strings...

    im grade 8....

    it's good...

but some students's playing have .... well kinda messed up...

    no offence

  • oh wow when they hit the coda part it gets all mixed up but in total it was ok

  • i play this song at school im a celo this song is pretty cool

  • Nice Czech song by Bedrich Smetana :-) Vltava

  • nice............i've played this arrangment....great job.. nice going w/ the vibrato

  • God they are good i hope the TMS orchestra can do as good. I can't wait for festival this wensday. I play violin and i would we are this good and getting better. Just htis orchestra had very little dynamics.

  • ahh this is an edited version. I just played the original Moldau with my school orchestra. I LOVE IT! even though its like 11 mins long. The Stromschnellen is a killer XD

  • Yes, this is the abridged version. Not nearly as cool as the real one. I've played that one too.

  • ya my orchestra thing is doing this song too

  • I'm preparing myself for a visit to Praha for the end of April (2008)and researching You Tube for turistic information and encountered this video.

My compliments for the director and the pupils with the nice rendition you realized. You all did a great job.

I enjoyed listening to the music. Regards.

  • nice job, but it could've sounded better...

everyone drags the notes, so in the end it just sounds like one big mess...but it was good though..especially from 7th graders..

  • awee my class is doing the wedding theme :3

    you guys are goood :3

  • omg

  • xD my class is trying to play this piece now! it's beautiful!

  • I don't know what's more beautiful anymore: old-farts mastering, or young minds learning?

This is awesome for a middle school (like Jr. High?).

  • Yes this is a middle school. Those are 7 and 8th graders performing. Most students at that school start orchestra in 7th grade so about half of those kids are just beginners and some have played for almost 2 years.

  • I'm in ninth grade, and transferred from percussion in band to violin in orchestra over summer break. I have less experience than these kids and play it just as good.

  • HAHAHA! But you learned how to read notes and rhythm in band right? I play percussion pretty well too and I only did it for 6 weeks. You still take away musical knowledge that I had to teach all these kids. Still, I commend you for your violin playing. If you're as good as these kids and you just started you must be quite talented.

  • Stands for Kamehameha Middle School where I was teaching years ago.

  • help me, kms is what?

  • Nice job, though I couldn't hear the basses at that part right before the DC al Coda, and their posture wasn't the best...and the Coda sounded like crap, but it's supposed to I guess with 4 sharps...

  • do they have a bass? 'cause i cant tell

  • i believe they have three basses. lol. :3

  • ooooooo :-))) well I am from czech republic, and I admire these little musitions... I love Bedřich Smetana and especially his Vltava, it's really a difficult peace... they should practise more-))) but... nice try;-)

  • THIS SHOULD BE CRIME! POOR SMETANA WILL STAND UP FROM THE DEAD AND WILL EAT THE EYES OF THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!!!

anyway... nice to see them trying that hard

  • wow...for such young instrumentalists to perform themes of such great works as Beirdrich Smetana's Moldau, is inspiring as well to see thesmiles of the enjoyment of great music in inspiring to an aspriring teach

  • i agree. some of the postures are really bad! it makes the orchestra look very bad if everyone has a good posture and one person is slouching.

  • sorry to ruin the moment, but why are people the first few stands of violins SLOUCHING??!!

especially since this is probably a performance....how do you even produce a good tone quality SLOUCHING!??!

wahhhh posture is one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to orchestra. xP

  • OMG 2:18 FTW!

  • Smetana was deaf when he composed Vltava ;) respect..

  • And really they didn't

    quiet down at all

    in the wedding.

    The spz didn't stick

    out at all. either.

    it's supposed to be

    a calm river too.

    I have to agree, Poster

    must be improved greatly.

  • I know they're not playing wind instruments so technically they don't need to sit up straight but they all look so..sloppy.

  • Actually, violin players do need to sit up straight...don't know why though... =/

  • POSTURE!!

  • Would of been great if they had some flutes in there

  • guess what, i did listen to the original and you know what it shows, RIVERS!

  • Ok... Thanks for the comment... I think...

  • The arrangement doesn't do the piece justice but it's the best one I know of. But yeah, go listen to the original.

  • yeah....the coda just ruined the whole song. WHY WERE THE EIGHTH NOTES SWUNG AND WHY WAS THE WHOLE THING RUSHED?! IT RUINED THE WHOLE ASPECT OF THE SONG, A CALM AND PEACEFUL RIVER! anyways, good job, but you have sloutching violins and violas!

  • I don't think the 8th notes are swung. It's in 6/8 time and the ending has quarters slurred with 8th for almost the entire coda. The whole aspect of the song is NOT a calm and peaceful river! HAHAHAHA! Go listen to the original and do a little research. The beginning is slow and calm but that little river merges with a big one and the end is supposed to be a large raging river.

  • No offense, but the cellos really ruined it.

  • i agree.

  • no wonder, it isnt easy piece - I heard even British national orchster ruining it..

  • yes they did I am a cello and my orchestra is playing this song and i just listened to our recording and we sound nothing like this, we actually think we did better.

its a very good song though. :D

  • this be hawaii yeah??

    kuz the conductor has leis

    what middle school??

    kms dont help

    theres alot of kms

  • Yeah, this be Hawaii. This be Kamehameha Middle School back when I used to conduct there. HAHAHA!

  • Hahaha... I thought this was my middle school for a moment.

A lovely performance, you guys had. :D

  • AAaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

  • pěkné nice :))

  • Rosemont Middle School, CA, La Crescenta did 100x better in our GUSD festival.. =.=

  • Ok... thanks... I look forward to seeing that video on YouTube. HAHAHA! I could personally care less if other groups were better or wose than this one. This is just here so my students can watch it.

  • my highschool orchestra played this same arrangement this past school year. good job (:

  • what is the conductor wearing around his neck? just wondering.

  • Its called a lei (pronouced lay). That was my last concert at the school and it's traditional in Hawaii to give people that when they either leave or arrive somewhere important. If you ever came to Hawaii, there's a good chance you would get one at the airport. For the most part, it's just flowers on a string worn like a really big necklace. A lei can be made out of just about anything from bags of chips to nuts to yeah just about anything.

  • oh ok. thanks!

  • He is wearing an Hawaiian leis, which are made from real flowers.

  • lol, first chair dude is short. x] srry srry! I'm in 7th graded and I'm playing this song too! :D

  • My orchestra played this one, but not for festival. For festival, we did Incantation, Barber of Seville, and The Gift for our warm up. They are all grade 4's. I'm in middle school (eitgh grade) by the way. sixth graders (they kind of suck) were playing with us too. We got all supiriors.

  • Hmmm... I'm pretty sure The Gift is not grade 4. Not sure which arrangement of Barber you did, but I'm fairly sure that wasn't a grade 4 either. My students played The Gift as well. It's a great piece. I love it. William Hofeldt is one of my fav. composers.

  • Well, there have been ocasions where Mr. Schacter (our conductor) lied about the grade of something just to make us feel good which is a crappy thing to do. I'm pretty sure barber of sevil was a grade four, but I guess I can't be positive. I don't have the score. Incantations was definantly, though. Richard Meyer is one of my favorit composers.

  • Richard Meyer is awesome too! I hope I get to meet those guys someday and personally thank them for all they've done for orchestra music. Tell your director to try the Idylls of Pegasus by Meyer. I just did that with my students and we had a blast. I'll be posting that one sometime next month when I actually have some free time.

  • Well, no more concerts for this year, and I'm going to suitland for highschool, so we'll be playing higher than grade four. For the rest of my eight grade year we're going to be sight reading grade 3's. It gets kind of boring, I can't wait to go to sutiland! Their orchestra rocks!

  • are'nt these guys supposed to wear black and White it's a concert!! I bet They're in hawaii

  • HAHAHA! Normal concert attire is black and white, but you're right this was in Hawaii and on top of that, the school is a "Hawaiians Only" school. All the students in the concert haver some type of aloha attire as their uniform. Too bad it's not like that for the conductor. That suit was hot!

  • i'm in high school and i still needed to study it before performance.. they did a great job by the way, thanks for uploading

  • Cute middle schoolers! I'll be playing this in our Fine arts festival with the 8th graders in like a week.

  • Yeah, my orchestra is playing this for our festival. I'm in 8th grade and 7th grade is playing with us. I guess the hardest part for us is not rushing, we've got some fast players in our class, and the change between Allegro Moderato and Moderato. And changing to the coda's tempo is hard too. I think the hardest part is changing tempos. I'm only playing second violin though, not as challenging as the first violin part, but still hard.

  • this song owned as a quartet but i guess a full orchestra is also nice. I think its ... grade 2? took me 3 days to get it

  • Yeah, this song is a great quartet piece too. I use it all the time. Most of the pieces I post are good quartets as well and that's how I find what I teach my orchestras.

  • im playing this song in string sinfonia its hard

  • Darn, this song is kinda hard for me. I need to play this for my concert and im in 8th grade -.-

  • You know, most of those students in the video are in 8th grade. Some are 7th grade beginners too. What in particular is difficult? What part are you playing? That's me conducting so maybe I can help you.

  • Mostly the rhythm and the slurs. Sometimes the rhythm makes me miss a note or play it incorrectly.

  • Ahh I see. Just remember to practice counting 6/8 in six first. If you take it in two you will play the rhythm wrong for sure and practice with no slurs. When you got the notes and rhythm down good, then add the slurs. You should be fine.

  • this is really good. im in high school camerata and we are having trouble with the rhythym because its in 6/8
