If anyone has a working, seeded torrent of Momus's stuff (esp. Circus Maximus), or has his records and is willing to send me the files, please let me know and I will give you my boy virginity.
@janmlt This photo is from the Czech movie "Až přijde kocour" made by Vojtech Jasny in 1963. Its a wonderful story for children and adults about a cat who had to wear small glasses because if it doesnt have them on, everyone it looks at will be shown in a significant colour that shows the real personality. I dont know if its avaliable in english but for sure there will be english subtitles somewhere.
@gammypage : O Wha-? I think it's a really good exposition of female strife. The lyrics are great! The part where he rhymes life and knife and hints at wife is brilliant and the juxtaposition of murder and liberation might be trite but in conjunction with female oppression it evolves into a whole new meaning. How are they stupid?

It's not from The Poison Boyfriend. It was added to the CD version of that album, but was originally on the Murderers, the Hope of Women EP released before The Poison Boyfriend and later included on Monsters of Love.
this stunning song wasn't originally on Poison Boyfriend, at least not in the vinyl copy I bought at the time.. It was only on single, like the other jewel 'What Death Will be Like" and "11 Executioneers"... I love most of momus music and this song is definitely one of his best, but really think that depsite of the amazing lyrics, most of Poison Boyfriend's music is not as good as most of the other albums, before and after :O
This was on the first vinyl LP I bought in 1992 - Monsters of Love. It was a compilation of singles and B-Sides. Defenitely yet another masterpiece of this lyrics genius. A great musician and a unique writer.
How in God's - whatever god you want - name can you say that Poison Boyfiend is the hardest Momus album to get into? It is certainly one of the finest albums - lyrically - in English. Ah!!... you lazy arse. Listen again...
Poison Boyfriend really is awesome....So is Hippopotomomus....20 vodka jellies....ping pong....voyager...timelord....the philosophy of momus...these albums all take me to another place....it's hard to explain...but, you are right....
The Czech name of the movie can be translated as When The Cat Comes (Az prijde kocour). It feels like a fairy taile, but fairly soaked in film art / allegory. Not a fairy tale for the kids. It is said to have strong sattirical connotations pointed at the commie regime at the time. It was awarded a Golden Palm in Cannes. The name of the actress is Emilia Vasaryova.
@Maarttttt and then only some of stars forever......best are: hippopotamomus, 20 vodka jellies, the philosophy of momus, timelord, voyager.....mr. curry probably hates these kind of statements...but well.....
I just started listening to him. his songs are indeed great but seems that it's so hard to find his albums. what a shame

@NarwhalsArePimps he released every one of his early albums on Ubu web ... whether Creation is okay with it is one thing... but he apparently is.

I love the still image of this video. I find it quite provocative. Is it a remotely famous picture I should know about?
Also, I'm finding the Poison Boyfriend is probably the hardest Momus album to get into. This song is fantastic though.
tommyperkins 3 years ago 2
I have had it in the My Documents folder for ages. I think it's from some kind of movie.
Google leads me to 'Cassandra Cat', from Czechoslovakia, 1963.
