I was in high school when my parents bought their new 1985 Park Avenue. It was one of the best cars they ever owned (except for a few issues with the transmission).
I had a 1988 with every available option. full power leather seats, digital dash, sunroof, keyless key pad, bose stereo, alloy wheels, and 5 ashtrays with 4 lighters. It was a southern car and i bought it with 240000 kms on it. I got it stuck in a ditch and after I got unstuck and back on the road to head home my tranny blew up. It locked solid in 2nd gear and I had to dump it into neutral at red lights or it'd stall. It was my first car and i had a blast with it but after that I sold it.
my dad had one almost identical except his had leather and his had aloy wheels. other than that they look identical. nice to get a blast from the past
Hello, excuse my english please. I have the same car in Romania ( EU ), it's a '85 Electra Park Avenue 3.8l 4 speed automatic and i'm still trying to find some parts here. I find a few body parts in Germany but now i can't find the left and the right front corner ornaments wich is broken. Maybe I'll put a little video with it soon. If u think U can find that two corner ornaments and it can be shipped to europe i would appreciate. mail: motorangel@gmail.com
Nice! I love these front-drive Electras. The styling is so crisp and beautiful, and I'm sure it drives like a dream. Maybe I'll have one someday -- the T-type would be a dream car.
@cntryby8 If I'm not mistaken, the hood is hinged at the front. My uncle had the same car also. He opened the hood a few times, the tinkerer that he was and in no time, bent the hood out of alignment. Requiring a visit to the dealership. I bought new, the Bonneville, model year 1989. Awesome car! I was surprised you had to rebuild the transmission with so few miles. I didn't do anything to mine until about 165,000 miles.
@itsmegp46 You're right - the hood is hinged at the front. When I go for an oil change I have to instruct the mechanics, who always say they have never seen a hood open like that! As far as the transmission was concerned: The elderly woman drove the car so slowly it shifted to each next gear at very early intervals. This was correctable temporarily, but the transmissions weren't a good design to begin with. Works well since the re-build, but clunks when placed in reverse.
Very good looking car, man. My mom had an '85 Electra that was almost in that good condition except for peeling paint on the trunk. My brother was always trying to fix up the sound system, mostly leaving the back speakers disconnected so I'd have to reconnect them. The red color and the wire wheel covers must have been popular choices on these cars, that's what my mom's had, too.
No problem. It's interesting to note that a lot of people think this car was called the Park Avenue, but its actually called the Electra Park Avenue, you just don't see the Electra badge on the car (you already knew that, though). Does yours have that headlight indicator system (little lights in the front or back window that tell you when a light is working)?
The badge issue was a marketing ploy by Buick / GM devised to encourage Buick customers to purchase the newly downsized models. The word "Electra" was dropped a few years later. Yes, this car is fully loaded and has the light indicator system - front and back - only option it doesn't have is cornering lights on the leading front fenders. When I had the headliner replaced the installer switched positions of the rear lights however so when I use the turn signals the opposite light flashes - lol
no problem I know how you feel about these old cars I feel the same way I have a 1989 Buick Regal and it runs great like the car park aveune you have there any thing my car needs i get it because i wanna keep a car like this running in goood shape
Always wanted a 2door, but couldn't find one in as nice condition. Thanks for the nice comment. Took a road trip in the car this past weekend - drove 644 miles at 70 mph - averaged 27 mpg. She performed like new!
First car I've had that had a hood that opened like that. Problem is that no young mechanic has ever seen it before. I have to show them when I have work done so that they don't damage the hood.

@cntryby8 Maybe this car had a bad one from the factor. As I mentioned, the one in my Bonneville was great and lasted to 165,000 miles.

I think you're right on the color and wire wheels. What few cars like mine that I see (and they are few) are alike. Thanks for the nice comment.

I didn't know that about the badge. That sucks about your indicator system.

Simple fix - I just have to unscrew it, switch the bulbs and when I look in the rearview I will see the proper side flash. Just haven't done it yet.

I always liked the "reverse" opening hood--always got attention at the service station.
