If I remember correctly there's been 2 deaths from nuclear power in the USA, some shitty military reactor which used a single control rod... brilliant.

Having had the pleasure of looking after a Prius for a couple of months, I can tell you they are *nothing* special when it comes to milage. I do like the idea behind it, but if you're looking for decent economy I'd suggest a Nissan Wingroad - they have more grunt too. Prius's are about as asthmatic as a Morris Minor.
lol...calling them liars and shock value salesmen is great. What's YOUR evidence because there is plenty that SUPPORTS them.
Hybrids ARE bullshit. That's why a lot of people are pushing for a gallons per mile measuring system instead of miles per gallon (which is deceptive).
Math: 3 cars travel 100 miles
Car1-10mpg, uses 10 gallons
Car2-30mpg, uses 3.33 gallons
Car3-50mpg, uses 2 gallons
A linear 20 mpg improvement for each step up, NOT a linear improvement in gallons used.
According to the Union Chernobyl, the main organization of liquidators, 10% of the 600,000 liquidators are now dead, and 165,000 disabled. They risked their lives for us and get noting but called hippes by fat stupid wanker.
Read the WHO report about Chernobyl and stop BS-ing. 28 people died within four months from radiation or thermal burns, 19 have subsequently died, and there have been around nine deaths from thyroid cancer apparently due to the accident: total 56 fatalities as of 2004.

You a BSing you are a nuclear holocaut deniar. The report is bull shit. They talked about immediate deaths not long terms deaths No serious person thinks 56 people died you idiot not even the people who did the report.
I hate when they make arguments showing selective information. It's not the highway driving that hybrids are good for, its CITY driving, since they recover a lot of energy normally lost during braking. Yes, right now you break even when you buy a Prius, --save gas, but pay higher sticker price for battery, (if money is all you care about), but the more you invest in the technology, the better it will get.
Its a step in the right direction, but right now its not worth it. Also they can make these cars for cheaper but THEY CARE about money, so they dont. its a ripoff.
Also the car companies hace had this Tech for Decades! Why should WE pay for their lowend bs?
The companies did have the technology for decades, but not at an affordable price. There is no Honda, Toyota, Ford, and GM all made a pact to not sell them. Theyre competitors and will do anything to be on top. Also the price gouging theory is disputable because if the prius was overpriced, people would just buy the civic.
That goes against the Logic the Car Companies have had for years though. They knew another gas Crisis was coming, we;ve had several since the late 70's. Why the sudden change over the last 4 years?
What sudden change? gas prices rose, technology became cheaper, so hybrids started selling. The car industry is 1 of the most competitive in the world. Do you really think GM has some secret weapon that theyre holding back for later, while losing market share right now? Or that toyota couldve made a practical, affordable totally electric car, but instead they made a prius? please, these companies don't make master plans, don't believe the ridiculous conspiracy theories, they don't make sense.
Hogwash! I'd like to see a copy of that "pact" the car companies signed! Car companies make what people will buy, people buy based on what they see in ad campaigns, and the media. Right now global warming is media hip, in the 70's another ice age was hip... it's all bullshit! Don't buy into it.
With new technology in breeder reactors, the half life of the waste has come down to less than 100 years. Solar and wind power will not be able to meet our energy needs for a long time, although these technologies must be utilized. Lithium is toxic in the amounts it is being deposited in Canada where the Prius' batteries are manufactured. Most utilities (electricity, water, sewage) are socialist by nature because everyone needs them, nuclear plants not being an exception.
I was referring to lithium ions, which I can verify are toxic. For example, lithium carbonate is used in treatment of depression and the risks due to the narrow therapeutic index thereof are well documented. As 'lithium' refers to lithium ions as well as lithium atoms, which may not be toxic, the statement 'lithium isn't toxic' is definitely untrue.
According to hybridcars. com/environment-stories/hybrid-battery-toxicity.html
the lithium ion battery is relatively harmless compared to other types, and progress is under way to make such batteries rechargeable, so I actually agree with you per se.
Not pretty, especially when they light. I have seen one Prius crash that leaked acid. And one lithium battery spill from a truck transporting batteries that ignited. Alot of battery acid or lithium is not what you want in your car when you crash(unless you keep a BIG pail of sodium chloride or copper powder with you).
And you can be badly burned by LI exposure to your skin. Its also not fun or cheap to fight when it gets going.
Gasoline is able to be extinguished easily, dry chem, AFFF, cafs even. Gasoline does not explode in 90% of car crashes(stop beliving TV).
Last time we had a lithium battery spill fire off a truck it burned for 15 min. before we got our trailer that has pails of copper powder. We tried with 2 class d extinguishers which failed. If that involved a person they would have been cooked with us just standing there waiting.
And a car-b-que happens when we are not able to get on them right away.
First there is a way to recycle the waist, second according to the 2005 energy policy tax incentive, renewables got 3.2B in subsidies compare to the 1.6B nuclear got, (google it).Third in the US is about 4 times more expensive to build reactors than in Japan or any other country due to red tape and other govr interventions.Last, new reactors are cheaper and more reliable.
If I remember correctly there's been 2 deaths from nuclear power in the USA, some shitty military reactor which used a single control rod... brilliant.

This topic was a really bad choice. It is far too complicated to lend itself to that type of simple one minute satire.
They should stick to things like UFOs, scammers and conspiracy nutters.

Although one more thing.
Yes, the Prius gets about 45 highway in realworld driving.
However the Prius excels in City driving.
Not to mention, all the other cars they mention, those values are inflated too.
Just last week fueleconomy . gov updated all their numbers for 2008 models.

Lithium isn't toxic.

Nuclear on the other hand, "what are you going to do with the toxic waste in a few years"?
Even if they opened up Yucca Mountain right now, the place would already be full to capacity after day 1.
You want to talk socialism, man Nuclear is king on that.
Gets more subsidies each year than all renewable and energy effeciency programs combined.
And the places where it's successful, it's run by government owned monopolies.

Actually, you'll find that lithium is toxic.

--Actually, you'll find that lithium is toxic. --
No I don't find that.
And the Prius doesn't use Lithium, it uses Nickel Metal Hydride, an old battery technology.
THAT is toxic.
Lead acid is toxic.
Lithium however, is not toxic.

If it's true, I'd like to cite this.
greyflcn 4 years ago
Best I can find is
wikipedia. org/ wiki/ Lithium_salt# Lithium_toxicity_and_side_effects
Did some quick math, for someone who weighs 200 pounds, they can take about 1.8grams of Lithium before it becomes a toxic dose.
More or less, you'd need to swallow and digest a penny's weight worth of lithium.
And even then it probably wouldn't be fatal.

Why your local utility will buy them from you :P

Are you saying that gasoline is safe when it explodes?
Most car fires, theres nothing left but an immolated husk.
And all that takes is something as simple as a leaky fuel hose, and kaboom.
_
That said, you should look up NanoLithium batteries.
They can withstand some rather impressive high and low temperatures.
