  • 4:31 As our dear friend, Marlin from Finding Nemo, would say, "Good feeling's gone."

  • I just love how imperfect these characters are! Ichabod is selfish because he doesn't even care about Katrina, only her money. Katrina only uses Ichabod to get Broms attention, and didn't care about how Ichabod felt at all. And Brom becomes overwhelmed with jealousy and takes it out on Ichabod. This is extremely realistic and human. I just love it! Especially in a Disney movie. Too bad not many Disney movies are like this anymore huh?

  • When I was younger I wanted to clear Sleepy Hollow with the entire 101st Airborne. Now I think the Headless Horseman would wait until dark and pick us all off one by one.

  • he lost it. Pause at 4:10 and you will see what i mean. its almost scary lol

  • @MegaFirefox34

That was such a great movie! Just the opening music made my heart stop. 0_o

  • the headless horseman seems to be the only Disney Villain who wins

  • This Tales really scares the s... out of me when I was a kid... and maybe a little bit now a days jeje.

  • It is unknown whether Brom dressed up like the Headless Horseman or not.

  • holy COW the part where Ichabod was going through the woods before the headless horseman showed up used to scare the life outta me as a kid! Seriously, the anxiety of not knowing if something will show up but expecting it to is SO much worse!

  • @Innocent9989 That scared me too, but when the Headless Horseman appeared, that was when my sisters and I got really scared.

  • @spiritgirl41192 Wanna see something scary? Just watch insidious. the part when we first see the red demon almost gave me nightmares. And never ever ever watch it alone, ever.

  • @spiritgirl41192 That reminds me of watching insidious. That movie almost made me stop breathing. And this isn't a little kid movie i'm talking about.

  • Thumbs up if the forest and the Headless Horseman scared you when you were little.

  • If Ichabod thinks THAT forest is scary, he should look at the forests Snow White and Belle ran through!

  • To those of you who believe Ichabod dead, what this adaptation doesn't tell you is that Brom was said to look "exceedingly knowing whenever the story of Ichabod was related, and always laughed heartily at the mention of the pumpkin."

In other words, the Horseman is none other than Brom in disguise, playing on Ichabod's superstition to chase away his rival for Katrina's affections. The ruse works, Ichabod gets the heck out of Dodge, and rumors of his death are highly exaggerated.

  • The sound design in this film is masterful.

  • I'm 42 and I still love this movie. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • 3 people thought they pressed dis i like

  • What do all the animals say? Because I thought I heard the grass hoppers say " That's right!! Be afraid!" Over and over.

  • @DarthSmoke1 The frogs said, "Ichabod," the owl was saying, "Who," the crickets weren't saying anything, a toad was saying, "Headless Horseman," and a crow was saying, "Beware, beware."

  • @spiritgirl41192 Well how do you know it was frogs? I didn't see any anywhere, all I saw was the grass hoppers, the owl, and toad.

  • @DarthSmoke1 Okay then, it must've been the toad off-screen, before it said, "Headless Horseman."

  • @spiritgirl41192 Of course I've been wrong before. This is my favorite part, I love how it fades in from black and you hear the wind howling, and the himself sounds like he's scared. And the forest it self is creepy, like one of them is gonna reach out and snatch Ichabod.

  • @DarthSmoke1 Yeah, last year in December, I decided to watch this part again and I got really scared to the point where I jumped if someone came near me while I was watching this part. I agree with you on the fading in from black part, it was a good place for the last part of this to start.

  • @spiritgirl41192 I forgot to put narrator in there, I meant even he sounds scared.

  • @spiritgirl41192 I thought I saw a face in the sky when it fades in from black when the narrator starts talking!

  • Let's think about it. He has to be dead. The HH threw the pumpkin directly at the viewer's which was Ichabod's eye view. He's pronounce dead I believe.

  • The Horned King and The Headless Horse should be in Kingdom Hearts. Thumbs up if you all agree.

  • @DAYD111 with the soon release of kingdom hearts drop dream distance there's a likely chance those two could be in there lets hope

  • @DAYD111 I really hope they do appear. I find both movies to be extremely underrated and both the Horned King and the Headless Horseman are great villains that would make terrific bosses

  • I love how Ichabod looks so afraid, and in the meantime, his horse looks unbelievably bored.

  • Ichabod reminds me of Dobby from Harry Potter haha 0:46

  • Stupid Katrina...she knew she always wanted Brom...she just wanted to make him "work"...to see how much he really wanted her. Hate that >_<

  • @LemitriDawkins I think disney took that part out from the book version, cause they thought it was too mean.

  • @DarkSunGod lol seems ironic doesn't it?

  • @LemitriDawkins Yeah well I guess, Ichabod is supposed to be the "main character" in this version (its named after him), even though Brom is the protagonist. So I guess they were trying to make him look a little better off.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • I don't like this one, it's sad....

  • Not alot of people know this, but disney animators use to recycle old animation and put it in later cartoons. Point in case, the crickets seen at 2:19 were used in silly symphonys The Old Mill. Same with the whistling bamboo sticks at 2:47. Just a little FYI

  • 4:09 he lost his mind

  • The part when Ichabod was being chased by HH was both scary and exciting. I just watched this yesterday and this one was the absolute best of the 40s!

  • hh ur a jackass

  • man, i'm getting out of here

  • heedless horeman was brom bone

  • @OnlyBaileyRose well, when you think about it, they never actually said that ichabod survived, they only implied through legend and heresay. i definitely agree on the mystery of it all. after all, that's what makes a legend what it is.

  • @OnlyBaileyRose well, when you think about it, they never actually said that ichabod survived, they only implied through legend and heresay. i definitely agree on the mystery of it all. after all, that's what makes a legend what it is.

  • @OnlyBaileyRose i never thought of it like that. my take was that brom was trying to scare ichabod, not really knowing the headless horseman really existed.

  • @serpentisma Either way, it's a fascinating story and a real good one!! I always enjoy reading it aloud in the dark near Halloween, because I can picture it all in my head and feel the dread of the haunted forest scene. I remember when I first watched this scene, I couldn't get the image of the hand-shaped cloud out of my head for a long time!

  • @WishfulThinkingArt can't disagree there. it's an awesome story!

  • I thought his power ends at the bridge, but the schoolmaster still got hit with the pumpkin. Someone was all wrong with their headless horseman lore.

  • @stolenusername4 the headless horseman's power ends if he crosses the bridge after you. he stopped at the bridge, before he threw the pumpkin. ichabod thought he was safe after crossing the bridge, not knowing he had to get out of throwing distance just in case HH had another trick up his sleeve.

  • Did he live or did he die?

  • Man, they don't make Disney movies like this anymore. A tragic ending in Disney movie in today's time...Blasphemy!

  • @YingDarkness Tragic? Ichabod lives, gets married, has all he can eat. Brom and Katrina look happy enough. Unexpected, maybe. Tragic, no. Tragic would've been "Brom accidentally kills Ichabod while trying to frighten him, is hung for murder, Katrina kills herself out of guilt."

  • I like the walken horseman better.

  • Wow that was actually really creepy. I hadn't really liked this movie at all until the last two parts. Both Toad and Ichabod bother me a lot, but I actually really enjoyed the end to this! I kinda like Brom :)

  • The way he laughs is far scarier than the Headless Horseman.

  • anyone notices every time he drop it some how he gets it back

  • @Thetuber307 Who gets what back every time he drops it?

  • How can the headless horseman laugh if he is HEADLESS?

  • @Superpepsiman20

The diaphragm my friend. Gahh i don't know. 8P

  • @Superpepsiman20 Oh come on you don't know? The Headless Horseman is a supernatural spirit that's how he can laugh.

  • @doughnutser256 A super natural being with out a head.

  • @Superpepsiman20 Maybe it's the pumpkin that's laughing

  • @Superpepsiman20 It's Brom Bones in disguise.

At least, that's what some people think. Nobody's really sure.

  • @Superpepsiman20 lol good point. at least in the Tim Burton film, all the time the horseman was headless he never laughed or spoke.

  • @Superpepsiman20 Because it's a cartoon & because he's supernatural.

  • Darn horse is so slow. I remember watching this when I was little, I always screamed at the horse to go faster.

  • O MY GOD! i used to watch this when i was 8!!!!

  • This isnt the full version. the VHS i have of this inlcudes Brom taking off the costume and laughing with the other guys from the scene with the keg.

  • @thatusernamehasnotbe Of course it's not the whole thing abbydobie separated the whole video into different parts because you can only support up to 10 minutes for each submission on YouTube.

  • and again at 5:21!

  • 5:10 I had no idea that this was an adult cartoon film

  • No one laughs better than the Headless Horseman...not even the Headed Horseman.

  • tragic end? u kidding schools definitely not in session for a while

  • I never noticed this, pause it about 7:36. Do you notice something different about Katrina? She is much fatter than she was in the rest of the story. Did she just get fat or pregnant?

  • This used to give me the worst nightmares as a child.

  • this still scares the s*** outta me!!!!! "man im gettin outta here" damn straight, man!!!!!!

  • When I was younger I always thought that Brom was the 1 pretending to be the Headless Horseman and that he killed Ichabod :/

  • Man, what a happy tune for such a tragic end.

  • @Snoofalah

but that's kinda the point, it's supposed to be sinister...just like they use the sweet tune of the 'Katrina' song as the creepy-eerie whistle that echoes around the woods as Ichabod rides home...spooky!

  • @cazia9 I mean at the end of the story, when the show's over.

  • it was banned?

  • @PeterPanDisneyDork No this was never banned. I have the Gold Classic Collection DVD that was released in October of 2000. I think Disney also recently re-released this on another DVD set.

  • That was cheap! If you cross the bridge, the horseman can't follow, but the pumpkin still hurts! That sounds like something a sly contracter would do.

  • I remember watching this at my grandmas house when I was little. She lived next door to my house so I always went over there. After I got done watching this, my dad called and I had to go home. Well, this part of the movie scared the carp out of me XD So I bolted down my grandmas porch steps and sprinted across the long, ran up my porch and tore the door open! Ah....childhood memories

  • Its scary and yet kind of funny.

  • i kind of like this movie...... despite the headless horse man thing that's some scary s*** scared the living daylights out of me o_O

  • brom....what a sore loser you had to go do that :/ but then again ichabod was after katrina for her wealth too

  • @CarlyxCrash I don't think he was being a sore loser. As they say "All is fair in love and war". Ichabod wasn't exactly being good sport about being around Katrina, he kinda rubbed it in his face. And Brom didn't have a lot of options, the Ichabod outbested him in everything, he had to suck it up and admit his rival got him at almost everything. Except bravery, which is probably why he told that story.

  • if the headless horseman had no head, how was he able to laugh?

  • LOVE THIS MOVIE! I can't believe that Brom won it! THAT SUCKS! I think that Brom was the Headless Horseman and that he killed Ichabod in order to win Katrina!

  • @jvfunn3000 yep thats exactly what happened

  • @CarlyxCrash I knew it.

  • @jvfunn3000 Hey don't get at Brom like thatoO. Ichabod wasn't perfect either, he was a gold-digger. Well in the book its hinted Brom did it. But it is most likely in this verison the Headless Horseman was real, we all saw Ichabod look inside. If it had been Brom, Ichabod wouldn't have been that scared of the prankster.

  • @Moonstone2732 What do you mean that Ichabod was a gold digger?

  • @jvfunn3000 Well if you watched the whole thing, you'd see he mainly vied for Katrina because he wanted her money, mainly all of her father's gold

  • @jvfunn3000 That is what the author implied in the novel. But if you notice, that eventhough Brom was the town "rowdy", his jokes and parnks where never mean spirited. Plus if you watch the scenes with Katrina, you can clearly see that she always wanted Brom and was just playing up to Ichabod to make Brom jealous. And not for nothing Ichabod is a dick. He only wanted to marry Katrian for her being the only daughter of the towns richest farmer.

  • @Boman803 that is true, i always kinda liked Brom even when i was a kid because he never seemed mean, Ichabod always seemed like the dick to me

  • This movie scared the living sh*t out of me when I was 4 and nothing much has changed x]

  • It must've sucked back in those days, not having the safety of a car. Being all exposed on horseback.

  • musicforeverk, this cartoon was not banned. I just got the masterpiece edition dvd a couple of days ago.

  • I love it when Ichabod goes crazy over the cattails...just before HH makes his appearance.

  • I love this story I remember it being told to me since I was like 4 and last Halloween I told it to a friend and had another friend hide behind him with a cloth over his head and pop outta nowhere calling my friends name and he dribbled in his pants >.< HILARIOUS!

  • @musicforeverk If you do get flack for it, just know you don't deserve it in the least! Today's parents should be utterly ashamed of their complete ignorance.

  • You Lucky Ichabud Didnt Died By Pumpkin

  • do you know what i love? how in the movies the rules of gravity are bent, like if you had water, when you pour with a swing kinda, the water comes out more, .... like thick and not as quick as if you acutually do that in life cux it would spill and stuff

  • This movie gives me hoosbumps still, ni I'm 15. N I hav this movie for VHS best movie evr

  • this ust prove that disney can be dark when they want to be if only be could do it more

  • oh gawd that would so be me... freaking out about every little thing because of a ghost story then laughing like a crazy person with a horse only to find that there is some creepy headless stalker dude trying to rape me xD fave disney movie

  • so sad. i feel bad for ichabod

  • I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but as Ichabod's riding in the woods the animals and other creatures are ominously saying "ICHABOD...ICHABOD...BEWARE!" Spooky! And either it's his imagination or they're trying to say there's an evil being hunting him.

  • tallnes works at those setuation :P

  • I still get scared by this i'm like shaking right now sadly but does the horseman get him? stupid question but i had the volume off on this last part

  • Ichabod was probably thinkin, GODDAMN THIS brokedown ass horse!!!...i kno i was...he couldnt have been dead tho if the horseman couldnt cross the bridge to get him.

  • Ichabod was probably thinkin, GODDAMN THIS brokedown ass horse!!!...i kno i was...

  • I must admit that I remember this movie with warm fuzzy feelings rather that remembering being scared. It's a real classic, there is no doubt about that, but I was a lot more scared of some of Disney's other work. Like Peter and the Wolf for instance...

  • @BlackWaltz5 shit u have NO idea...there ARE scary disney movies out there!!!!

  • Actually I've always viewed ichabod as the villian in this film version...

  • @streeTkiDwannaBe I didn't at first, but after seeing it now. So do I, at least with his gold-digging ways.

  • Dang, they skipped the part where Brom and his pals trash the school.. :(

  • Boy that was some scary crud. I remember that when I was a kid. You know, I never saw what happened to Ichabod after the pumpkin hit. I found out today that he lived.

  • that sux the bad guy won

  • Eh, boys will be boys. Crane, on the other hand, was only after her money.

  • @apowers7 You mean the Headless Horseman?oO Well can't be helped. It teaches you a lesson though. Never go in the woods ALONE or with a very old horse.Lol

  • In the novel it is implied that Brunt was the Horseman.

  • @red81suit: Yeah, but really, I figure the best way to end the story would be to make it ambigious, so people could make their own conclusions.

  • The Wind in the Willows was back on the other side of the bookshelf

  • God this is such a great movie. This entire scene has just so much atmosphere to it. It reminds me of the woods behind my house. The woods get so quiet and still that if you are feeling the least bit jumpy the slightest sound would make u jump. A couple halloweens ago I was just walking through the woods and all you could hear was the wind blowing, nothing else, at one point i thought i heard a horse galloping through the leaves which made me walk back home lol. Classic Disney.

  • hahahahahahahhahaahahhaha

is avery very nice , i love this ''the adventures of ichabod''

i live in Brasil , i prefer this video in portuguese

    hahahaaha

  • was this actualli banned?1

  • It wasn't banned, it just wasn't released on home video for a long time because they knew it scared a lot of kids.

  • @MyName42 ah rigght, i searched in loads of movie stores and no one had it lool i lovee itt :P

  • hya mule hya hya hya

  • 6:04 For once you cross that bridge my friends. The ghost is through his power ends.

  • Hmmm well said!

  • That horse was the death of ichabod. Seriously XP

  • Awesome, disney was great back when they did stuff like this.

  • I'd do anything to know what this have been if were a feature by itself, rather than part of a two-fer.

  • 1:08 - 1:15

Cool how they made the clouds look like hands covering the moon

  • I'd leave the horse and haul ass back home in a place like that

  • Likewise.

  • Holy snap! I'm pathetic. XD I was just as afraid of this as I was as a kid. I actually have goosebumps. I think it scares me more, because I don't know what happened to him. Poor Crane...

And then Katrina just goes off and marries, just like that?! How heartless...

I did like, however, that this wasn't like one of the usual Disney films. It shows that not everyone has a happy ending. And a villain finally wins! About time!

  • Yeah well they still implied at the end that he was still alive so technically its sort of a happy ending.

  • "Shoo kid, you're crampin' my style."

    :P

  • @bobdash101: No. They said that some said he was alive, but the old Dutch settlers who knew the legend knew better. I'd rather the horseman be an actual spectre, because that makes it far more scarier than it being Brom Bones Van Brunt in a costume. In fact, in one rendition, Brom tries to play his trick of dressing up like the ghostly rider, but the REAL one shows up and chases him away before going after poor Icabod Crane.

  • But Brom's horse's eyes were normal white with a pupil. The headless horseman's eyes are red. And there wasn't such a thing as red contact lenses back then.

  • Yep. I don't think Brom could make it glow red around himself and in the sky!

  • And besides no normal horse who could jump so high at 5:19, looks more like it's flying

  • And the horseman's horse also breathes brimstone smoke from it's nostrils, and it has that white streak on it's head unlike Brom's horse, and at 5:18-5:20,

no flesh and blood horse could make a jump like that.

  • "Man I'm getting out of here"! lol

  • That may just be my favorite line from the entire movie.

  • oh just so you guys know all of the sounds in this film are either played by a orchestra/band or vocals so this movie is very unique.

  • How can he even laugh! HE HAS NO HEAD!!!!

  • Maybe it was really Brom in disguise. He portrayed the Horseman to scare Ichabod out of Sleepy Hollow.

  • I thought the same thing at first. But when Ichabod looked down into the Horseman, nothing was there (see his expression at 6:29).

  • I see you're point Tony. I thought that to.

  • Then there's more to this mystery. Maybe at one point Brom chased Ichabod to the bridge and felt he might've left. Then, the REAL Horseman came and was the one responsible for Ichabod's mysterious disappearance.

  • While I like to keep it a mystery, keep in mind that Brom has black hair, so if it was him, Ichabod could have been looking at blackness.

  • dude! this story is classic! but i like the tim burton version better...its gory and has johny depp init ;)

  • The Headless Horseman chase is one of the most climatic scenes from any Disney film. But I gotta admit, the reaction shots of Ichabod and his horse were priceless.

  • It's vastly overlooked, and it shouldn't be; it's way too thrilling. Wolfgang Reitherman directed this scene; the same guy who directed the Dragon sequence in Sleeping Beauty, the Tiger fight in Jungle Book, and the ever-epic Whale Chase from Pinocchio.

  • Wow I never knew he directed all those classic scenes. I bet that's look good on a resume!

Y'know until know I've never seen any fo these old package-Disney films like this one and fun-and-fancy free. I'm impressed!

  • It's unique how it glows red around horseman....of interesting note, I believe Disney introduced the sword for the horseman. The laugh at 5:55 is wicked!

  • It was never banned

  • Banned? They used to show it all the time in 80's....I want the pre-P.C. America back!!!!

  • Has anyone else ever noticed that the sounds as Ichabod is riding thru the forest are the same sound track that is used in Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp for the same scene???

I had nightmares when I watched this the first time as a kid......but I wouldn't have it any other way!! It was and continues to be my favourite Halloween special. Anyone who would want it banned needs to be hit in the face with a jack-o-lantern....hard... ;-)

  • Actually Tim Buton said that the Disney one was one of his inspirations for Sleepy Hollow

  • Apparently FCC standards have changed in the last 60 years.

  • Was this cartoon truly banned? I never realized that. I remember wa
