In Canada, this month, the main parties tried to exclude the Green Party candidate from the debates. The people and media were outraged, so they pressured the organizers and the main parties, and got her in the debates. I want to hear what ALL candidates have to say. This country should be based on equality, the media should be based on complete, unbiased coverage, and Americans should have the right to be fully informed.
We are demanding equal opportunities and coverage of ALL presidential candidates!!
It's no wonder other countries hate us. What a shame America cannot practice what it preaches!
-a recent zoby poll shows 50% of Americans want Nader & Barr in the debates
-thousands of people across the country turned out to see the Open the debates Super rally during the DNC & RNC where Nader had invited fellow candidates McKinney,& Barr to join as allies & former independent thinking candidates like Jesse Ventura
-thousands turned out to see Ron Paul's rally for the republic
-there is a demand of progressives, conservatives, libertarians & independents to be represented in the debates
People will watch a national televised debate with 3rd party candidates with or without the corporate Demohawk & Rebomican parties alongside them
As Nader said, the CPD debates are simply "parrallel interviews" of the 2 candidates repeating the the same campaign rheoric whilst supporting the same policies. There's no debate.
Ralph Nader represents my interests!!! please add Mr. Nader to your debate forum!! the show must go on! no shows are scaredy cats! i am begging google to let my voice be represented by allowing Ralph Nader onto your forum! break the mold google!!
Back when the CNN-YouTube presidential debates took place, most of the candidates there had under 10% polling, and some had barely 1%. They were still invited though, why does that have to change for the general election?
the us has a republican party, democratic party, independent party, green party, libertarian party, constitution party...each nominee should be in the debates, no ifs, ands, or buts. this is supposed to be a republic!
Nader and Barr should be in this debate and if Obama and/or McCain don't show up, then people should reject them outright as if there isn't enough REASONS to reject the two DEMONublicans as it is.
Let Ralph Nader, a real patriot debate! It is undemocratic and un-American to exclude such a decades-long champion of the rights of "We the people". He has the knowledge, judgement, wisdom and character that puts him light years ahead of the two corporate candidates, as far as being qualified for such an awesome responsibility as President. They're even afraid to debate him for fear of looking like kindergarteners in comparison. Nader would actually represent US. He's The People's Candidate!

What the CRAP. They should put them on anyway...without Obama... Wouldn't that speak volumes to the American people? Seeing all the candidates but him willing to debate openly? Hmmm.
I personally would like to see them do the debates without the NObama and use video of all the different answers he has stated on the same subject introduced by the moderator. For example and "On August 1, 2008 Obama said run clip please", "On March 3rd, 2008, he said (show video, please)" "and on January 8th 2008 Mr Obama said, run the clip .The audience can decide which answer Obama really stands behind at this time" and over and over to all the questions.
Any candidate that qualifies for enough state ballots to hypothetically win the election should be allowed in the debates. Otherwise it is a sham and the voices of candidates that have worked hard to have a chance to make their case to the American public are effectively silenced.
I think Obama is too smart to discuss the issues with anyone as intelligent as Nader or McKinney. He will look a fool with, "Hope for a change" Nader is real change like, NO SEAT BELT and SEAT BELTS, like PLATE GLASS WINDSHIELDS and LAMINATED GLASS WINDSHIELDS. Nader has saved more lives than in a modern day army. Real Change not hot air. Obama, don't forget to flush the John.
Please allow the major third party and independent candidates Nader, McKinney, and Barr into the debates as well to make them truly democratic by representing all sides and all voices instead of the two party autocracy and their near consensus on the issues.
If you listen to NPR, ask them to provide more coverage for third party candidates because apparently they think they are providing enough coverage to them (yeah right): npr(dot)org/ombudsman/2008/07/covering_thirdparty_candidates.html
All we're asking for is for someone to allow our third party candidates to have a voice in the debates even though they probably won't win. Representing our anti war, anti occupation, anti corporate control, anti military expansion message to the nation in a national debate would be enough.
It's becoming clear that the google/youtube debates were another gimmick in pretending they'd have third party & independent candidates included, so are no alternative to the CPD.
Seems that Google/YouTube either never really wanted the debate to occur or they are spineless. If a group wants to organize a debate, it needs lots of money to advertise it enough and get enough coverage that the two main candidates think it's worth their time. Google/YouTube can bypass that completely. McCain already agreed, so put pressure on Obama to agree. Advertise that Obama is running away from real discussion of the issues.
ALL candidates should be invited, empty spots for the absent.
You Tube is among the most democratic and open forums on the internet - reflect that liberty and allow all the third party candidates to participate! No goofy barriers, please!
Forward with the debates! Nader needs to be there and allowed to debate. Any other candidate who is on the ballot in more than 10 states (that is 20%!) should be allowed to debate as well.
The video said they were inviting ALL Presidential candidates.
To be true to their word they should include every Presidential candidate that is on the ballot in Louisiana, otherwise it's the same as the corupt Presidential Debate Commision.
The 10% poll threshold is unfair as the polls are fixed by the corporate media that have excluded Nader for 8 years, and this year excluded Paul, Kucinic and Gravel who were Deomcrats and Republicans.
The percentage should be changed from 10% to 5%. It's funny people have such high percentage requirements for debates and then claim Nader ruined and spoiled the election with less than their requirement. Clearly he's a factor, and he should be given a chance and a voice
Looking at all the boards, on and off you tube, Barack is losing a lot of supporters. They have become disillusioned with this guy. Some have even said they are now voting for Nader.
If Barack loses it's his fault. He just backed out of the Google debate when it became apparent Nader was going to be involved. A lot of people were let down and angry at this insensitive snub.
And to be honest with you, McCain is a better candidate than Obama. He has a lot more integrity and experience.
if the small party candidates can agree to a google/youtube debate like this one then the public will witness true democracy in its most grassroots form! please let the debates happen even if the two bigwig parties refuse to show
If you really want a debate that is "more empowering and more democratic than ever before," why are you only allowing the two major parties access? At the very least Nader and Barr should be allowed in, and possibly more if the situation allows it. Not only will opening the debates make them more democratic, it will actually increase the number of viewers, since everybody already knows where Obama and McCain stand. People are still curious about the third parties and independents
PLEASE, open your debate to Nader and Barr, other front runners if you can. Americans deserve it if you expect to get them out to vote. Massive numbers of viewers would tune in to hear real discussion. You'd probably beat the other guys!
Voting is our VOICE. Voting shouldn't be an exercise in frustration or being funneled/herded, forced to choose A or B. If you only have the same 2 guys, saying the same things, why bother? Want viewers? Make it real, allow Nader and Barr on your program!
So far, neither major party candidate has committed to attending - perhaps when things get desperate google will relax the rules and we'll all be treated to a nader/barr/moore/baldwin bizarro world contest.
If that happens, I hope they keep the empty spots for those who declined to participate so the people watching realize their unwillingness to participate in true debates.
Let Nader debate. It's hard to get 10% when there is a biased mainstream media. Nader deserves this chance. Nader has improved our quality of life more than any other candidate. He brings to the table a vast amount of experience of working for the People. Let Nader debate in spite of the 10% rule.
This debate should be opened up to cover the political spectrum, from Brian Moore of the Socialist Party USA to Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party.
But most importantly, Ralph Nader should be allowed in since he will be the most significant 3rd party factor in this election. He is at 6% in a recent CNN poll, just ahead of Bob Barr at 2%.
10% is an absurd cutoff as everyone else has pointed out, 3rd party candidates simply do not have their campaigns covered by the corporate news.
Open up the debates to cover the entire political spectrum, from Brian Moore of The Socialist Party USA to Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party.
But most importantly, let Ralph Nader debate, as he will be the largest 3rd party factor in this election.
10% is an absurd cutoff, as everyone else on here as pointed out because third parties cannot obtain that amount of support when the corporate news media does not cover their campaigns, much less the issues.
Google, please consider letting Nader/Gonzalez join your debates regardless whether or not they reach your set criteria. There's no harm in setting standards, of course, but having that 3rd voice, call it conscience, is important to so many and to the progress of our country. If anyone can Google and YouTube can.
Your video says you're inviting 'all' the candidates, but your 10% requirement would have excluded virtually every 3rd party or independent presidential candidate the last hundred years!
Remove that requirement. Everyone on enough ballots to win should be invited. This is your chance to show if you're serious about opening up public debate like you say, or controlling and limiting flows of information like your requirement indicates. Do the right thing!
Youtube, PLEASE let Bob Barr and Ralph Nader participate in this debate. How do you expect them to get to 10% in the polls if they don't get any attention from the media? If you let them participate in this debate, that will give them the voice they need to make a difference in this election. You could even have McKinney and Bandwin in the debate. This is about democracy, so give us democracy!
Not only do your tax dollars fund debates without all candidates, they are also used to get candidates off the ballot.
At least now Pennsylvania "indicted 12 Democratic political operatives for the illegal use of millions of dollars in taxpayers' funds, resources and state employees for political campaign purposes.", including efforts to keep Nader off the ballot in 2004. Full story in the Pennsylvania Attorney General's website (7/9/2008): attorneygeneral(dot)gov
Open up the debate to McKinney, Nader, Barr, and Baldwin. At the very least the exchange of some new ideas would be wonderful. At least have Nader and Barr since they will both be significant players in this election.
10% threshold is ridiculous when there are 6 candidates who are all on ballot lines, but only 2 with enormous financial support from major corporations and lobbies. Open up the debates to all candidates who have demonstrated they can get on ballots.
If you're eligible to run the country, you should be eligible to talk about it. In order to stop the further deterioration of our country, we need a live, honest, no-holds-barred debate with all viable contenders present. We should see Obama, McCain, Nader, Paul, and McKinney at these debates.
You guys whine about the two-party system as if it's something that only America has. Well, news flash: Britain has only three major parties, Germany has only two, France has only two, South Africa has only two, Russia has only three. People don't like to decide between too many different things. Deciding between McCain and Obama is a lot easier than deciding between McCain, Obama, Nader, McKinney, Barr, and Baldwin.
Doesn't Ralph Nader care about anyone but himself? He's going to split the left vote again and make McCain president, just like the old asshole did in 2000.
What a selfish prick. Hopefully he'll be too old to run in 2012.
What political bigotry! Ralph cares about making America a better country, that's why he's been doing what he does for the last 40 years or so, and why he's running for president, advocating policies which are probably even in your interests, whether you realise it or not.
I agree with you Uber99. If anything, Nader cares so much about everyone else that he puts up with all the crap some people give him (like Horason here) to make life better for everyone else too.
Youtube has become a PR outlet for BHO. Go to videos, then click politics and you will see. Nothing but BHO videos, I have visited this site less and less because of this bias stance.
You can also email Governor Jindal to tell him that the debate should include "ALL of our presidential candidates..." like he states in the video, not all candidates with more than 10%. Go to gov(dot)state(dot)la(dot)us and click on the link almost at the bottom "Contact the Governor"

"All Presidential Candidates" is a lie.
It's time for organizations like yours to support democracy.
A debate which invited all candidates who could theoretically win the election would involve only six presidential candidates, almost surely Baldwin, Barr, McCain, McKinney, Nader and Obama.
Drop the 10% threshold and give Americans a real debate between six candidates with different views.
Yes, and ask them to answer the same questions, because they were able to sideline Ron Paul by only giving him stupid questions, like when are you quiting?
This will be bogus unless all the candidates are included. Including Bob Bar and everyone else running. They say it will be democratic. We shall see if it is democratic or the elite club who wants to control the conversation the People of the USA hear.
With a bit of confirmation, it sounds like when the Governor of LA says "All Presidential Candidates" he means all candidates polling above 10 percent. What a sham! Boo.
I take all to mean either any on the ballot in all 50 states or any who can theoretically win 270 electoral votes, and that includes more than just McBomba.
Google has established a 10% polling requirement. These third-party candidates are polling at 4-6% nationally with little mainstream media coverage. Jessie Ventura, who ran for Governor in Minn. as a Green, moved from low poll numbers to eventually win. Open up the debates to more candidates (Nader qualifies to receive matching funds - why doesn't Google recognize him as a candidate if the U.S. Government does)? Nader talks about issues like removing our troops and permanent bases from Iraq.
If they lower the minimum to 5%, that would allow Nader to debate. (He is currently at 6%.) If they allow him to debate, he will be definitely increase to 20% in the national poll.
At 20%, it becomes a three-way race.
I hope that Americans keep an open mind. There is such power in the mind.
We NEED more voices in all of our presidential debates. Just 20 years ago candidates only needed to be polling at 5% to get into debates but ever since the 2 major parties took control of the debates, that % has increased to 15%. I thank google for lowering their debate to 10%, but that is still not enough. All candidates, like Nader, Barr, and McKinney, should be allowed into the debates.
wentrikin: where did you get the 10% figure? I didn't hear nor see anything about a minimum percentage in polling in this video. In fact, Governor Jindal says at the beginning that they "...welcome ALL of our presidential candidates..."
If it is indeed 10%, how did YouTube come up with this figure? I think anything more than 5% is too much. Aren't candidates eligible for public financing with 5%? Why require more than that for debates?
And they now require more than the 5% to limit the exposure of independant and smaller party candidates who threaten the current duop0ly that is running and ruining the country.
Nagin Charges Taxpayers Thousands For Meals 06-12-2008 7:04 AM
(New Orleans, LA) -- A new report says New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has regularly charged his meals to taxpayers. The "Times Picayune" says from September to January, Nagin charged an average of nearly 100-dollars per meal for 70 meals to a city paid credit card. That included taking his wife out for their wedding anniversary. Nagin is on a trade trip to South Africa and has not had any comment.
Will you be inviting Ron Paul who is still running for the republican party nominee or will you exclude him like most of the media has? Do not believe that Ron Paul has dropped out because he has not. The media and republican party is lying to you. That is all the more reason to vote for Ron Paul. Don't you want your elections to be fair? We need fair elections in America! Are you okay with fixed elections?
Chad Hurley you liar. There is nothing "democratic" when all options are not put on the table. Want to prove me a liar? Invite Ron Paul to the table. He doesn't live too far from Louisiana, just over the state line in Galveston County. I say this because though he's still in the running, you've taken him off your "Face The Candidates" page.
Do the right thing, or step down from your position because you are serving your clients poorly.
What happened to Nagin's usual garbled speech? Is the voice dubbed in? He's not OUR mayor, since no one living in the city voted for him. People who were displaced and aren't N.O. residents voted for him. If he could stay out of anything regarding New Orleans, we would have already recovered. What a knit wit!! I really think he's an alien from another planet or universe.
I'm not reall good at this, yet. But I like New Orleans and I like YOU TUBE / GOOGLE internet. I hope you can use my song, THE BIG EASY. I tried to upload it for you. And, God bless New Orleans!
This is fantastic. I think that they should have had a forum in New Orleans about how the candidates plan on rebuilding the city and region. The current administration has made this a bigger disaster than what it already is. Thanks You Tube for making this forum possible in NOLA
I hope I have a chance to grill these candidates about abolishing the IRS and the Federal Reserve, establishing sound monetary policy, ending the drug war, and restoring freedom and the Constitution. If you want to ask a question you should read Ron Paul's new book, "The Revolution: A Manifesto" before so you know what is important to ask. The book is the most inspiring and truly patriotic piece of literature in recent history.
Notice how most of the kids they show are in certain "poses" 0:44-0:51. This is just another BS forum. All they do is talk. Why the hell do people make a big deal about these politicians who really don't give a damn about nothing but themselves? WAKEUP SHEEPLE
Hopefully this Presidential Forum will be open to all candidates that have the ballot access for 270 electoral votes (Constitution Party, Libertarian Party, and Green Party) and not just the Republican and Democratic candidates.
Thank you Google and YouTube for not letting the politicians sneak out of facing the issues that Katrina brought to the surface. Neither party wanted a debate in New Orleans because it showed us how incompetent they are. Thank you for not letting them get away with it.
Another setup from Youtube. As with the CNN debates, the only questions asked will be puffballs. In fact, this video gives us a preview, including the superlightweight Kotecki.
Asking a candidate about their "personal qualities" will simply generate a stock speech. Questions like that would be considered puffballs even in Soviet Union debates.
What we need are "prosecutorial-style" questions designed to point out flaws and lies. Don't expect that when Youtube or Google are involved.
Please include Craig Taffaro,St. Bernard Parish President, in this vital presidential forum for the recovery of all the hardest parishes hit by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Thank you Women of the Storm, Youtube, and Google for this opportunity to have our voices and concerns addressed

rumpelstillskin65 3 years ago 5
The video said they were inviting ALL Presidential candidates.
To be true to their word they should include every Presidential candidate that is on the ballot in Louisiana, otherwise it's the same as the corupt Presidential Debate Commision.
The 10% poll threshold is unfair as the polls are fixed by the corporate media that have excluded Nader for 8 years, and this year excluded Paul, Kucinic and Gravel who were Deomcrats and Republicans.
Include third parties.
0613162k 3 years ago 5

Too late.
Obama ran the other way.
Once it became apparent Ralph Nader was going to be included, Obama runs to the safe confines of the corrupt CPD corporate-sponsored debates.
To hell with poor African-Americans, Obama seems to say. Corporate money is what drives his campaign.
Chicken Obama can no longer denounce Ralph Nader.
He had his chance to make Nader a non-factor.
Instead, he runs away...
Democrats, you have nothing to stand on now...
nportillo73 3 years ago 4
If you really want a debate that is "more empowering and more democratic than ever before," why are you only allowing the two major parties access? At the very least Nader and Barr should be allowed in, and possibly more if the situation allows it. Not only will opening the debates make them more democratic, it will actually increase the number of viewers, since everybody already knows where Obama and McCain stand. People are still curious about the third parties and independents
DeathToHypocrisy 3 years ago 4
PLEASE, open your debate to Nader and Barr, other front runners if you can. Americans deserve it if you expect to get them out to vote. Massive numbers of viewers would tune in to hear real discussion. You'd probably beat the other guys!
Voting is our VOICE. Voting shouldn't be an exercise in frustration or being funneled/herded, forced to choose A or B. If you only have the same 2 guys, saying the same things, why bother? Want viewers? Make it real, allow Nader and Barr on your program!
mcprimm 3 years ago 3
So far, neither major party candidate has committed to attending - perhaps when things get desperate google will relax the rules and we'll all be treated to a nader/barr/moore/baldwin bizarro world contest.

Let Nader debate. It's hard to get 10% when there is a biased mainstream media. Nader deserves this chance. Nader has improved our quality of life more than any other candidate. He brings to the table a vast amount of experience of working for the People. Let Nader debate in spite of the 10% rule.
ccaskins1 3 years ago 2
This debate should be opened up to cover the political spectrum, from Brian Moore of the Socialist Party USA to Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party.
But most importantly, Ralph Nader should be allowed in since he will be the most significant 3rd party factor in this election. He is at 6% in a recent CNN poll, just ahead of Bob Barr at 2%.
10% is an absurd cutoff as everyone else has pointed out, 3rd party candidates simply do not have their campaigns covered by the corporate news.
prestonharp 3 years ago 2
Open up the debates to cover the entire political spectrum, from Brian Moore of The Socialist Party USA to Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party.
But most importantly, let Ralph Nader debate, as he will be the largest 3rd party factor in this election.
10% is an absurd cutoff, as everyone else on here as pointed out because third parties cannot obtain that amount of support when the corporate news media does not cover their campaigns, much less the issues.
prestonharp 3 years ago
Google, please consider letting Nader/Gonzalez join your debates regardless whether or not they reach your set criteria. There's no harm in setting standards, of course, but having that 3rd voice, call it conscience, is important to so many and to the progress of our country. If anyone can Google and YouTube can.
INVITE NADER TO DEBATE.
HedgeHocker 3 years ago 4
Your video says you're inviting 'all' the candidates, but your 10% requirement would have excluded virtually every 3rd party or independent presidential candidate the last hundred years!
Remove that requirement. Everyone on enough ballots to win should be invited. This is your chance to show if you're serious about opening up public debate like you say, or controlling and limiting flows of information like your requirement indicates. Do the right thing!
LET NADER DEBATE!

10% threshold is ridiculous when there are 6 candidates who are all on ballot lines, but only 2 with enormous financial support from major corporations and lobbies. Open up the debates to all candidates who have demonstrated they can get on ballots.
lunabargal 3 years ago 3
If you're eligible to run the country, you should be eligible to talk about it. In order to stop the further deterioration of our country, we need a live, honest, no-holds-barred debate with all viable contenders present. We should see Obama, McCain, Nader, Paul, and McKinney at these debates.
MyNameMattersNot 3 years ago 2

Horason 3 years ago
What political bigotry! Ralph cares about making America a better country, that's why he's been doing what he does for the last 40 years or so, and why he's running for president, advocating policies which are probably even in your interests, whether you realise it or not.
Uber99 3 years ago 3
I agree with you Uber99. If anything, Nader cares so much about everyone else that he puts up with all the crap some people give him (like Horason here) to make life better for everyone else too.

This would not have to be real time. It could just be a series of questions answered with a timed video response with a date stamped on it.
Voters just want to compare a candidates attitude and policy on given situations.
The candidates may feel more comfortable with this as well.

Bob Barr needs to be in these debates!

tsopranos 3 years ago 2
With a bit of confirmation, it sounds like when the Governor of LA says "All Presidential Candidates" he means all candidates polling above 10 percent. What a sham! Boo.
I take all to mean either any on the ballot in all 50 states or any who can theoretically win 270 electoral votes, and that includes more than just McBomba.
HardyMachia 3 years ago 3
This would be awesome. I'd love to see Bob Barr and Ralph Nader take on McCain and Obama.
HardyMachia 3 years ago 4
Is there someone from YouTube or Google that can confirm/deny whether this 10% polling requirement is indeed?
If it is indeed 10%, how did you come up with this figure?
Governor Jindal says at the beginning of the video that they "...welcome ALL of our presidential candidates..." not all candidates with more than 10%.
jalvarezvUtube 3 years ago
Google has established a 10% polling requirement. These third-party candidates are polling at 4-6% nationally with little mainstream media coverage. Jessie Ventura, who ran for Governor in Minn. as a Green, moved from low poll numbers to eventually win. Open up the debates to more candidates (Nader qualifies to receive matching funds - why doesn't Google recognize him as a candidate if the U.S. Government does)? Nader talks about issues like removing our troops and permanent bases from Iraq.
redwoodsforever 3 years ago 3
If they lower the minimum to 5%, that would allow Nader to debate. (He is currently at 6%.) If they allow him to debate, he will be definitely increase to 20% in the national poll.
At 20%, it becomes a three-way race.
I hope that Americans keep an open mind. There is such power in the mind.
We need a nation of thinkers.

We NEED more voices in all of our presidential debates. Just 20 years ago candidates only needed to be polling at 5% to get into debates but ever since the 2 major parties took control of the debates, that % has increased to 15%. I thank google for lowering their debate to 10%, but that is still not enough. All candidates, like Nader, Barr, and McKinney, should be allowed into the debates.
wentrikin 3 years ago 4
wentrikin: where did you get the 10% figure? I didn't hear nor see anything about a minimum percentage in polling in this video. In fact, Governor Jindal says at the beginning that they "...welcome ALL of our presidential candidates..."
If it is indeed 10%, how did YouTube come up with this figure? I think anything more than 5% is too much. Aren't candidates eligible for public financing with 5%? Why require more than that for debates?
jalvarezvUtube 3 years ago 3
I got it from the Ralph Nader website in his latest blog titled Six Dollars for Six Percent

I hope I have a chance to grill these candidates about abolishing the IRS and the Federal Reserve, establishing sound monetary policy, ending the drug war, and restoring freedom and the Constitution. If you want to ask a question you should read Ron Paul's new book, "The Revolution: A Manifesto" before so you know what is important to ask. The book is the most inspiring and truly patriotic piece of literature in recent history.
