Some may be surprised to see that Joe Haden really has the best corner back stats of all the rookies at this present time. Joe Haden wasn't the starter until about mid season after Eric Wright was injured and still has generated statistics as good as Devin McCourty, and if Joe played for a playoff caliber team he'd be in Pro Bowl contentions as well.
McCourty has more tackles, INT's, and Forced Fumbles. Hayden had a streak of playing against poor to OK quarterbacks that padded his stats. The last four games of the year he had only one more pick. McCourty's play improved throughout the year and he was selected to the Pro Bowl as a rookie where he had a pass defended, an INT and 4 tackles. End of story.
@perezallonzo Those same corners were torched for 45 points. Revis is very good, but Cromatie cannot cover quicker recievers. If Wilson was as good as people say, there is no way the Pats would have had the success they did against the Jets.
@perezallonzo Every team has injuries. The Pats are missing their best defensive lineman (Warrren), best CB (Bodden), two best interior rushers (Wright, Pryor), and their best safety (Chung) is playing with a knee injury. Overall the Patriots and Packers are the most chipped teams in the NFL injury wise and yet the Pats are 13-2 in with the youngest defense in the league in what most people thought was a rebuilding year.
@perezallonzo In fairness to Wilson, it normally takes 2-3 years for a CB to get going in the NFL. Teams like the Jets have fairly complex schemes and this makes it tougher to be productive as a first year player. That said McCourty is a freak as a rookie - he plays on special teams is a leading pass defender and tackler who has played nearly every snap this year. There is simply no way to say that Wilson is better than McCourty at this point.
Ummm.....Not looking good. Wilson could be the second coming of Ellis Hobbs. Athletic, but prone to mistakes. McCourty is looking like the steal of the 2010 NFL Draft.
@Karnakthemagnificent does McCourty look better now that he gave up 2 TD's Sunday agains the Jets. Kyle is playing nickelback, which is a much harder position to play in 1 on 1 coverage, because you are working with so much space in coverage that you can get lost.
@LastCalltoBoogie No one could have stopped the pass in the middle, it was a good pattern and a good throw into a tight space. The one to Keller, McCoutry got picked. Good game for Jets. Down game for the Pats.
@Karnakthemagnificent McCourty is playing well, but out of all the DBs drafted last April, Perrish Cox is shining the most in my opinion. I hope Wilson got a lot of rest/digested lots of film during the Jets bye, because we're going to need him to play up to his draft status. He wasn't turning his head around to see where the ball was in the air or getting a hand up to bat incoming balls down in our first six games. That better not be the case with him the rest of the way.
@serrribral Perrish has some good stats and is playing well for a poor team. But that is very misleading. Denver plays a simpler defensive scheme than the Jets or Patriots. So it is hard to project what he would do on a better team. Wilson's tendencies are hard to overcome. Some DB's come wired that way. One thing to consider when talking about McCourty, he plays in a complex system and as a rookie he has played every single defensive and special teams snap.
Considering that Kyle Wilson is getting to play nickel with two great cover corners ahead of him, and that the Jets are one of the best pass rushing teams in the league, he'd have to be pretty shitty to NOT look great this year. Guys like Kareem Jackson and Haden are gonna have to play No. 1 corner with an iffy pass rush and I wouldn't be surprised if they look less than great.
HEY GUYS WHOS THE BEST WR HES FACED IN COLLEGE BOISE STATE AND KYLE WILSON ARE OVERRATED HE WAS JUST A 2** RECRUIT IN HIGH SCHOOL YOU TELLIN ME IF I SHOULD PICK JOE HADEN OR WILSON THATS A EASY QUESTION.
@heckman360 are you stupid? what you are coming out of HS means absolutely nothing. some 5*s never play, and some walk-ons go to the NFL. in 2005 demetrice morley was the top cb. it means nothing.
I like how Boise State play, But they are going to lose against VT this season. I like to see one day Florida Gator Vs Boise State. that will be a good game to see. Go Gators!!!
When taking a better look at this video Kyle was actually playing safety during most of these clips, so it doesn't do his corner ability justice, but it shows his diversity.
Wilson is 10 pounds heavier, but an inch height or two inches in arm length don't have anything to do with your feet. The feet are what is going keep you in front of the wide receiver during plays, and especially when playing nickel corner. If a corner doesn't have good foot work, he shouldn't even think about playing nickel, which is harder than playing outside corner and involves more responsibilities. He is almost 200 hundred pounds, strong, and aggressive with good foot work and coverage.
@LastCalltoBoogie Actually they are about the same weight, 195. All will be revealed in time. As I said, McCourty will likely not start, Butler and Bodden are front runners for the starting CB's. If he shows well in camp McCourty could become the nickle. But I would suggest that to think that Wilson can start and be productive as a rookie is a bit of a reach. Typically it takes 2 -3 years for a DB to gel. Jet's should be happy with Wilson, I like him better than a couple of the higher CB picks.
You'll see Kyle Wilson on the field this year for the Jets, and you'll see I know what I'm talking about. Also, watch for Crabtree to have a spectacular season. Kyle will be a runner up for rookie of the year. He'll have some up and down moments, but his skill is A-1 and he is not a fraud like a lot of NFL corner that should split their checks with their college defensive line for even getting them into the league - which would probably be half of them.
@LastCalltoBoogie I couldn't have said it better. The DL hides flaws. Let's compare during this season. I"m sure there will be some "explanations". Feel free to look at my page for year after year after year after year plays. Any position, both sides of the ball. He's a football player. Period, point blank.
Where you play in college is mainly a part of how many camps you attend while in high school, the team, and division that you played for in high school. Most high schools control who comes in by zoning. If a player played at a 2A high school, colleges will second guess about there level of competition that they had nothing to do with. So they find themselves playing at a smaller college do to the level of competition in high school. The reason NFL players come from schools you've never heard of.
Also, judging by minicamp reports Rex loves his pick and his brother wanted him, but others decided to take Joe, because he was the fan pick. If the Browns would've taken Kyle ahead of Joe the Cleveland fans would've been pissed.
@LastCalltoBoogie I agree with you about Joe Hayden, I think he was taken too high. Not having great speed can be a huge problem for a DB, though I think Hayden is very instinctive, is great in run support and a plays soundly. I not sure if he has much of an upside to his game. Wilson , Kareem Jackson, and McCourty seem to have room to grow and that would have made them more attractive to me.
Not impressive not impressive at all, this kid is gonna be a bust. The Dolphins are gonna beat the sorry Jets for the 4th straight time, yea thats right 4TH STRAIGHT TIME!!! Your defense is not gonna be as good and your offense will struggle with that moron you have as a QB 12 TD's and 20 INT'S and ppl say he had a good year; what the heck were they watching!
Wilson shows his speed and quickness, got a nice lick on the QB, but Hicks ate him up in this game. Compare this to McCourty's single game video against USF which was a top 24 team at the time.
McCourty made game changing plays in that game, was much more impressive in run support and was all over the field. While the Jets got a good CB in Wilson, I can understand why they might have been more interested in McCourty, who was more consistent over his college career and was a game changer.
McCourty didn't look terrific in DB drills. He backpedals too high, doesn't come out of breaks well, and is stiff - certainly not fluid to play man coverage, so he a good pick for the Patriots, but probably wasn't the best fit for the defensive schemes of the Jets. The Jets were looking for a nickel to cover slot receivers, so McCourty's size, ball skills, and tackling ability made him appealing, but I wouldn't trust him in man coverage and I don't think Rex could either.
Ty Law was also a good fit for the Patriots. Ty Law was a technician that didn't have great speed, but he was smart at his position. I don't think Devin is your next Ty Law, and if anything Kyle is more like Ty in capability, but maybe not in size. Also, Kyle is strong as hell at 194 bench pressing 225 25 times at the combine, you'd probably want to check if McCourty matched that.
@LastCalltoBoogie Wilson will be a good CB, I don't dispute that. But I really like McCourty as well. If you look at McCourty's body of work, he was a player who made thing happen all over the field. He has that intangible playmaking ability that DB drills do not reveal. He is faster than Wilson, and is excellent in run support. So even if Wilson can out bench him, keep in mind that shorter arms provide a mechanical advantage and really does not mean that much to CB's.
Devin ran a 4.38 which made his draft stock rise, but he is rough as far as technique. Rutgers teaches corners how to play a great cover 2 though. Kyle ran a 4.43, which is not blazing, but he is a technician that can also play a good zone coverage. He is also a smart kid in the classroom, and since his 9 to 5 now will be only to study receivers and schemes, he should hold his own alongside Darrelle Revis.
@LastCalltoBoogie The stop watches had McCourty as low as 4.32 which is really fast. Keep in mind that taller, lankier CB's always look a bit stiff in drills. The thing I look for is how much separation recivers can get on them in games. Teams really did not throw at McCourty, but when they did, the recievers never had much room to make plays. I don't think that McCourty is going to start, Butler has more time in the system and has the makings of a superior cover corner.
I watched him during the combine and wasn't impressed, but he and Kyle are the same height and yet he doesn't come out of his breaks like Kyle. As far as his game play, he seems like a good football player, but not a great athlete, which I think should be the main focus when choosing a CB. I don't want someone just out there making tackles, hell i can do that. I want someone who is going to keep the receiver from catching the ball, and get pissed about him catching one.
This video is entitled Kyle highs and low lights, but didn't get a chance to see Devin's if there is anything on him. I just see his highlights which consist mainly of special team plays.
@LastCalltoBoogie McCourty is about an inch taller with 2 inch longer arms than Wilson. A good video of McCourty is the one against University of South Florida a top 24 team the time. That's important to note, the WAC is not the same level of competition. Boise is one of the dominant teams in the WAC, Rutgers was a weak team in a very competitive conference UNC, UConn, WVA, USF etc. Look at all of the player drafted in to the NFL from these schools, Percy Harvin, Brandon Tate, etc.
lucky jets.. the browns could of traded down, not paid a corner insane money, and gotten a better one for cheaper and an extra 2nd. How do entire scouting teams manage to suck?
Whom ever plays opposite of Revis will be getting some serious work this year, because they aren't going to be going Revis way much. Who ever is opposite of Revis has the chance to shine like a star or look like shit, and Kyle will shine - not as bright as Revis, but quarterbacks will have to pay a toll when throwing on the Jets.
@fightoffyourdemons46 i no jets r gonna be unstopable this season then we have taylor also holmes and LT the jets r gonna be sick cant wait 4 this shit
i love watching higlights AND lowlights cus it tells you the whol story.
im a jet fan and idk what to think about this pick he obviously has trobule man 2 man and thats what we are all about hes good in zone but hes 4-5 yards behind the reciever everytime 1on1
Just my luck. I'm huge BSU fan but I'm also a Dolphins fan. Its going to be hard to look at Kyle Wilson as the enemy now. Either way I should inform all Jets fans that Kyle is very raw when it comes to open field tackling especially if theirs 200+ running backs/receivers running right at him. He would be best suited covering slot receivers like Wes Welker or Devone Bess. In a nutshell he needs to bulk up. The comparisons to Troy Paulamalu are false from a physical standpoint.
@greeny203610 maybe, the eagles defence is amazing when pumped, and gets pumped by making turnovers. this guy even though he is a great cb cannot catch that well
@3moorematt you guys dont need big play guys. you need 22 people that can do a passable job. braylon edwards, and kellen winslow were big play guys, and look where they got you
i know it goes against what most of the "draft guys" are saying but i think he has more potential than hayden and when its said and done he'll be the best db from this class
as a steelers fan,, we could really use a guy like this, ,he's the only CB id consider selecting with the 18th pick or any pick in the 1st rd for that matter, ,would love to snag this guy, start him opposit ike taylor, instantly upgrades the secondary
Kyle is the best pure cover corner in the draft and he is aggressive. Joe Haden has only played corner for three years so the sky is the limit for him, but Kyle has good technique which comes natural overtime with precise focus on your movements. Joe doesn't look natural just yet, but when it clicks we may have a monster. Right now he is mostly highly athletic and instinctual, which allow him to make plays when his technique stinks. Technique keeps your uniform clean.
This film doesn't show how good he is at all. Once I had a chance to see more of his highlights in addition to the senior practices/bowl that really showed me how talented he was. He's simply elite at pass coverage. Still, he is pretty raw in the run game but best pure cover corner in the draft but I think that doesn't make you the best (CB) though. More than likely the second corner off the board.
best cornerback in the 2010 draft. who is this joe haden from florida that is 5'7"? the only reason he is high up there is because he is from florida. joe's stock will drop like a rock weeks prior to the draft. kyle wilson is definitly a first round pick. if he doesnt go 1st round will be because the nfl teams will have other needs on their rosters.
Joe Haden is 5'11" and was the best cornerback in college football if you watched him this year. He shut down his side of the field, was fantastic in run support, and was a good blitzer. Just because he went to Florida doesn't mean he's overhyped. He deserves all of the hype he gets. He's the best corner prospect since 2005.
And Kyle Wilson is a borderline late 1st - early 2nd round pick in my opinion. If not for the Senior Bowl, he wouldn't even be in discussion to go in the 1st.
@TitansChamps2008. thank you. most reports had wilson as a 3rd round corner until great week of "practice" at senior bowl. i am not entirely sold on haden either. but i can say that i seen haden guard julio jones, aj green and brandon lafeel pretty good this year. but saying he is the best corner prospect since 2005 is laughable at best. as long as he plays closer to a young lito sheppard than he does to dee webb, he will be fine.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Not enough plays to evaluate him. Has nice straight line acceleration for blitzes and seems good enough in coverage.Very raw when going after the ball carrier and in tackling. I think the coaching at Boise dosen't help him much along with the competition he faces. My guess is 3rd-6th round range.
(LB) Aaron Curry, (QB) Matthew Stafford, (RB) Knowsean Moreno, (OT) Jason Smith were all the selected last year as the first pick for each of their respective position. What a surprise, better talent was selected later. It just amazes me that people criticize me and every single year a good handful of first round selections end up being the wrong pick.
Dude their rookies, you have no clue how good or how bad these guys will end up because they only played 1 year. The fact that your already judging this draft class after 1 year is pretty funny. As for your last comment what are you talking about? Does it matter when you posted it? If you watched film of him you would have known what type of player he is and the Senior Bowl would have backed up your thoughts on him. Instead you made your assumption off a 2 minute video on youtube.
Is #1 kyle wilson because hes not lookin to good to me

Whom ever plays opposite of Revis will be getting some serious work this year, because they aren't going to be going Revis way much. Who ever is opposite of Revis has the chance to shine like a star or look like shit, and Kyle will shine - not as bright as Revis, but quarterbacks will have to pay a toll when throwing on the Jets.

good clips. Jets got a good player......
Jets should be REALLY fun to watch in 2010.

The comparisons to Troy Paulamalu are false from a physical standpoint.

as a steelers fan,, we could really use a guy like this, ,he's the only CB id consider selecting with the 18th pick or any pick in the 1st rd for that matter, ,would love to snag this guy, start him opposit ike taylor, instantly upgrades the secondary
ianv1603 2 years ago 2
Kyle is the best pure cover corner in the draft and he is aggressive. Joe Haden has only played corner for three years so the sky is the limit for him, but Kyle has good technique which comes natural overtime with precise focus on your movements. Joe doesn't look natural just yet, but when it clicks we may have a monster. Right now he is mostly highly athletic and instinctual, which allow him to make plays when his technique stinks. Technique keeps your uniform clean.

ProDraftParty 2 years ago
This film doesn't show how good he is at all. Once I had a chance to see more of his highlights in addition to the senior practices/bowl that really showed me how talented he was. He's simply elite at pass coverage. Still, he is pretty raw in the run game but best pure cover corner in the draft but I think that doesn't make you the best (CB) though. More than likely the second corner off the board.

best cornerback in the 2010 draft. who is this joe haden from florida that is 5'7"? the only reason he is high up there is because he is from florida. joe's stock will drop like a rock weeks prior to the draft. kyle wilson is definitly a first round pick. if he doesnt go 1st round will be because the nfl teams will have other needs on their rosters.
zebfullmer 2 years ago
Joe Haden is 5'11" and was the best cornerback in college football if you watched him this year. He shut down his side of the field, was fantastic in run support, and was a good blitzer. Just because he went to Florida doesn't mean he's overhyped. He deserves all of the hype he gets. He's the best corner prospect since 2005.
And Kyle Wilson is a borderline late 1st - early 2nd round pick in my opinion. If not for the Senior Bowl, he wouldn't even be in discussion to go in the 1st.
TitansChamps2008 2 years ago
@TitansChamps2008. thank you. most reports had wilson as a 3rd round corner until great week of "practice" at senior bowl. i am not entirely sold on haden either. but i can say that i seen haden guard julio jones, aj green and brandon lafeel pretty good this year. but saying he is the best corner prospect since 2005 is laughable at best. as long as he plays closer to a young lito sheppard than he does to dee webb, he will be fine.
balaramesh8002 1 year ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Not enough plays to evaluate him. Has nice straight line acceleration for blitzes and seems good enough in coverage.Very raw when going after the ball carrier and in tackling. I think the coaching at Boise dosen't help him much along with the competition he faces. My guess is 3rd-6th round range.

MeHigh32 2 years ago
(LB) Aaron Curry, (QB) Matthew Stafford, (RB) Knowsean Moreno, (OT) Jason Smith were all the selected last year as the first pick for each of their respective position. What a surprise, better talent was selected later. It just amazes me that people criticize me and every single year a good handful of first round selections end up being the wrong pick.
Zephyrhillz 2 years ago
Did u watch this film or the senior bowl/pratices??...
That's what I thought. Notice when I posted it my comment.
Zephyrhillz 2 years ago
Dude their rookies, you have no clue how good or how bad these guys will end up because they only played 1 year. The fact that your already judging this draft class after 1 year is pretty funny. As for your last comment what are you talking about? Does it matter when you posted it? If you watched film of him you would have known what type of player he is and the Senior Bowl would have backed up your thoughts on him. Instead you made your assumption off a 2 minute video on youtube.
MeHigh32 2 years ago
Pretty thorough list of plays. Most complete cornerback in the 2010 Draft.
