  • The other nominees didn't even try to hide the fact they were pissed about losing when they announced that The Godfather II had won.

  • wheres the first godfather winning best picture

  • Oh my God, Warren Beatty looks retarded.

  • ha no fake smileys from the other nominees, gotta love it

  • btw could u upload the first godfather film winning best picture 2 years before this

  • Comment removed

  • when godfather II is named? man, robert evans looks pissed.

  • Warren Beatty looks very stoned underneath those glasses!

  • chinatown, godfather:part 2 and the conversation. what a year! but the best picture won indeed.

  • "We tried to make a film that would be a really good film. "- Francis Ford Coppola upon winning a Best Picture Oscar for "The Godfather, Part II". Fucking fantastic.

  • Why when warren was saying the nominees The Godfather didn't get any applause o.O?

  • the hairstyles of this decade...words fail me.

  • Godfather part I and II or great movies, but Chinatown (with Jack Nicholson) is my favorite movie.

  • they all knew they were going to loose lol you can see it in there faces

  • By far the best movie in history, absolutely perfect and majestic.

  • @Goodfellas61

A great film - but that's just silly talk.

  • @Goodfellas61 i am goinna be honest as hell with you. i dont think there will ever be a movie like the godfather part 2 ever agian. i highly, highly doubt it. i mean i think the essence of the godfather was that it caught francis ford coppola at the absolute height of his genius. it was the perfect film subject for the perfect director at the perfect time. And then you have al pacino at his height. its just untoppable. i wish coppola didn't decline as he has recently. he was a true genius right?

  • very unpolite reaction by the other nominees:D

  • 18 of you should be sleeping with the fishes

  • The Towering Inferno wasn't actually a horrible nominee (though it may look it). It had more dramatic potential and I'm fine with the nom.

  • @FilmFreakable I really liked the Towering Inferno and it deserved to be nomninated.

  • Robert Evans is the man...

  • Francis got his Mercedez

  • I was lucky enough to spend the last three days learning from Gray Frederickson.

I learned more in the last three days than all of my years in film school and out in the field. Thanks Gray for inspiring me to prevail in this very difficult industry!

  • I love Coppola, he doesn't even make an attempt to hide his glee. Not a false bone in that guy's body, not even false modesty.

  • Lol I wonder if this is the first and only time someone was nominated twice for best picture. Coppola is such a legend.

  • @ralfietv it isnt

  • @karolek32 another word PAEDOPHILE

  • godfather 2 vs chinatown, those are like my two favorite movies ever period so hey whatever lol

  • wow, godafther part 2, chinatown, the conversation, towering inferno all in one year

  • Hah I like that it says Godfather part 11 in the description.. Hah if only.

  • Great movies

  • 127 actors and actresses in the Godfather Part II??????!!!!!

  • Que emocionante cuando Francis Ford Coppola sube al escenario con la música de Nino Rota de El Padrino!!! a recibir el Oscar!!

    José Luis Valenzuela Cerda.

  • does anyone know where I can find Aretha Franklin performance from this night

  • does anyone know where I can find Aretha Franklin performance

  • This is hilarious... They have two picturesof Coppola with the nominees.

  • Coppola is a jew not italian most if not all of these under italian names in hollywood are jews isralis.

  • @gutsygarrett what are u? an arab conspiracy theorist

  • Godfather II is an epic masterpiece and it definitely deserved the Oscar, even over Chinatown. On another note, WOW! Warren's hair has a life of it's own. This must've been at the advent of styling products.

  • No one claps for it in the nominees announcement lol

  • imagine how damn badass you would feel walking up to podium with the Godfather theme music playing. Very Badass. Very Badass indeed.

  • Coppola should've kissed Pacino's ass in this acceptance speech.

  • "... we tried to make a film that would be a really good film and... thank you" - after winning an Oscar for making the very best movie of all times.

  • LOL I love how they show Coppola twice when they announce it.

  • @JaziB

That's because 2 of his movies were nominated. Godfather part 2 and the Conversation

  • i think Warren Beatty's just hoping there won't be another streaker.

  • Part 1 & 2 are the best films of all time.

  • Coppola looks like Coffin Joe

  • LOL. The Towering Inferno gets nominated, but big frizzy haired, Warren Beatty here snipes a nominated from T2 with his god-forsaken Bugsy. lol. That's why Cameron deserved to win all those awards for Titanic, jackasses.

  • @NuovoPiero Part II is definitely superior IMO.

  • warren Beatty looks fuckin stoned

  • great speech by francis f coppola

  • they all seemed very nervous

  • Robbed ! Chinatown got robbed of the award ...

  • @jusdeananas I would have settled for an even tie between the two, but I'm more sentimental about The Godfather 2 always.

  • WTF WHY DIDNT TOWERING INFERNO WIN?!?!?!?!

  • @GiantEnemyCrab63 How could The Towering Inferno win against Chinatown and The Godfather part2 had no chance at all.. the other movies.. Lenny and the Conversation could no way match the powerful house cast of Chinatown and The Godfather part2 Although all five movies were good the runner up if there had been would have been Chinatown.

  • Man the Oscars presentaitions were bland and unprofessional back then. Warren Beatty rushed through the nominations as though he had to take a shit.

  • damn great film. and the stage was beautiful by the way.

  • third part is the best one

  • Comment removed

  • I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse.

  • one word CHINATOWN

  • @nWo315 Had to be close as hell, but imo Godfather 2 > Chinatown.

    by the smallest possible margin.

  • 16 people disrespected the family

  • type "won" b4 youtube.com now!

  • The Godfather Part II is just as fine as The Godfather, they both compliment each other!

  • i'm 25 and I cant stand this generation either, the fucking music these days is dominated by boring RnB shite, and the films that come out now are 99% cheese laden bullshit

  • The Godfather II , Chinatown AND The conversation .... what a year !

  • @baruavice Don't forget The Towering Inferno, that was BRILLIANT!

  • i cannot believe tha al pacino didn't win an oscar for his role as michael corleone in any of the three godfathers'films

  • @vagua1993 i can't either. weird weird

  • Personally I think The Godfather II is better than the first.

  • @MASKdk u suck

  • i like the way that the other guys who didnt win took their time clapping..hahahah honest i like it

  • If anyone can argue that Part II is better film than the Godfather, then one could definitely make an argument Chinatown is a better film than the Godfather Part II

  • @obasaz I'm not sure I think Chinatown is better they were both great films. However the fact that these were two films to choose from in the same year is amazing . At the risk of sounding like an old man they don't make films like this anymore. CGI will never take the place of a great script great actors and great stoytelling.

  • ...amazing how they stand up there with appreciation even after they tried to remove the best part >Al. Thanks Al for being so brave...without you the picture would never have been the same.

  • avaTARD.

  • Agreed, the Oscars were better when it was just simple and honorable like this. Now with the added entertainment its becoming like every other award show, even MTV awards.

  • The Towering Inferno? Can you say, "they must've had an awesome PR campaign?"

    I knew that you could.

  • Epic movie, epic director, epic story, epic actors, epic soundtrack.

  • is that val kilmer??

  • Is there any chance that you guys could put up Coppola winning Best Director?

  • the other nominees look pissed

  • @cellardoor199991 totally haha guy on the left

  • "the towering inferno" was nominated for Best Picture?!?!?!?!? Gimme a break!

  • You have to understad that Coppola had already won 2 other Oscars that night, for Best Adapted Screenplay (with Mario Puzo) and Best Director, So he already thanked all he needed to thank.

  • and people compare: Avatar-Lord of The Ring, to this!!!

  • Chinatown is a perfect film, probably the greatest screenplay ever written.

  • Can I ask a question. On the credits of The Godfather Part II the only producer listed is Francis Ford Coppola. Gray Frederickson and Fred Roos are CO-Producers.

Why then did the last two win a Best Picture Oscar when the award is supposed to only go to the Producer(s)

  • What has to be one of the quickest speeches in Academy Awards history. LOL You can tell all 3 were nervous, especially Francis. Either that or too excited to know what to say! :) I love Fran though; he was and still is an amazing filmmaker.

  • FOR YOU CAROLYNN LADY KING PADDYING WITH YOUR SISTER PADDY,,, LOVE YOU ALOT BIGGS

  • fuck warren beatty just a pimp of hollywood

  • "Thank you very much. We Tried to make a film that would be a really good film." hahahahah..what the hell was that..

  • Chinatown, The Conversation, The Godfather PT. II...All three could have won it and it would have been fine. Crazy year.

  • @PayneToTheMax

Serioussly, its a shame tha way. Now, you're lucky if one movie deserves it every few years.

  • THE TOWERING INFERNO SHOULD OF WON!!!lol

  • The minds behind The Godfather... brilliant at writing and directing dialogue and movies... awful at giving acceptance speeches.

    I lol'd

  • Nice hairstyle

  • coppola had two movies of his nominated in one year

  • The Godfather and Chinatown are masterpieces!!!

  • It's funny because it would be a tie to me between 'Chinatown' and the 'Godfather Part II'. Nowadays we've got movies like 'Avatar' and 'Up in the Air' being nominated for Best Picture? Shame.

  • The music itself is extremely powerful.

  • This film deserved Best Picture. It's simply one of the greatest films ever made.

  • can you please post the 1st godfather winning? as well as coppola for director.?

  • Coppola may be a genius, but you wouldn't know it when he talks

  • Greatest movie ever made

  • Other great sequels: " Empire strikes back, Terminator 2"

    This is the best.

  • @ilovejourney1 Hell YEAH!!!!

I'd also add The Dark Knight.

  • 1:18.....I didn't know Owen Wilson co-produced GFII.

  • 1:18.....I didn't know Owen Wilson co-produced GFII.

  • 1:18.....I didn't know Owen Wilson co-produced GFII.

  • Godfather , Taxi Driver , French Connection , Dog Day Afternoon etc. - in the 70's the American cinema was at it's artistic height

  • such a perfect movie. i gotta say i gotta hand it to the academy forr giving the award to godfather part II. something tells me that nowadays a sequel to an academy award winning film would get snubbed even if it did deserve it.

  • Where are the screaming teen girls? The wacky host? The musical performance by some pop slut like Ke$ha or Rihanna?

I'm only 20 and I hate this fucking generation. Wish I could see the Godfather in theaters.

  • @pwned2ice im 15 and i hate my generation wish I was born before now and i wish i wasn't in the outcast group because i love the days beforehand and not now.

  • @pwned2ice the oscars never have kesha or beiber or other artists genius.....it a movie award ceremony and has always maintained classy

  • @pwned2ice I totally agree man, Im 17 and I absolutly hate this generation, the music, the films they suck especialy the music -.-

  • @MrVideoMan2 u know not all films suk this generation

  • @MrVideoMan2 u know not all films dnt suk this generation

  • @pwned2ice agreed im 14

  • @pwned2ice that would be pretty damn awsome

  • @pwned2ice Become an artist my friend. Study the masters.

  • @pwned2ice couldnt have said it better

  • @pwned2ice Totally agree. I'm only 18 and I wish I could see Sunset Boulevard on the theaters.

  • @pwned2ice bravo to that dude!

  • @pwned2ice I'm a 19-years old dude with the same existential troubles ... : '(

  • @pwned2ice I´m 12 and I think just like you

  • @pwned2ice (1) You're right. We're living in an era of decadence and degradation. Everyone's a hack. Sodomites, no doubt. We're living in a society of plastics. They smile, they laugh, and appear to be having a good time. And maybe they are. But only a few of us -- a very view -- see them for what they really are. Mindless wanderers. Fools. "Suckers of Satan's cock" as Bill Hicks rightly put it. But what do we do? What can we do? Start a Renaissance? Surely it's too late for that.

  • @pwned2ice man i m 15 and i hate it.....ke$hit....

  • @pwned2ice here here

  • @pwned2ice Respect Brother

  • @pwned2ice Damn calm down. People like you is the reason why the world sucks. PLEASE GROW UP AND ENJOY things.

  • @pwned2ice

    I feel you.

  • Too bad Chinatown and the conversation both went up against The Godfaher part 2. Luckily It was well deserving of best picture.

  • I think it can be argued that Part II is an even better film than The Godfather. It's a difficult argument to make but I do think it could be made.

  • @NuovoPiero i likem both the same. whenever i watch the first one i watch the second one right after :P

ive watched lots of movies, but no ones been able to top these ones, even if some come close

  • I agree 100%. GF II was even better than the first. Its unusual because most sequels suck big time.

  • @NuovoPiero I think the first is better

  • @NuovoPiero

I hear, that was kind of my initial reaction too since it was a more 'modern' movie with modern flow, action and dialog. But watching both film over the years again and again, Part I definitely has a certain tone, iconic moments and scenes, the artistry, true character development and transition over a lifetime (really feels like a epic) that part II doesn't have or has less of.

Nevertheless, part II does part I full justice.

  • @NuovoPiero

I love Part II more than the first one, too. :)

  • and the winner for best movie ever is...

    THE GODFATHER!!!

  • There's Mr. Scruch in 0:30

    haha

  • no calp for de godfather?

  • well deserved !

  • as much as I loved The Godfather Part II, I still think Chinatown was robbed!

  • sofia coppola ruined part 3. i guess nothing can be perfect in this world, not even this trilogy.

  • dang.... really feel the generation. Look at those people and hairstyle.... it feels like a different planet!! oh, and the fuzzy film camera...

    haha at Francis Coppola's speech.

  • What the fuck is on Warren Beatty's head?

  • godfather is a classic great movie but part II is a little better. A true Masterpiece......

  • two coppolas!

  • part 2 with Robert de niro (de young vito) was in my opinion maybe better then part one wich also was awesome

  • What's with the huge prescription glasses?

  • godfather 1 was the bomb

  • One of the greatest sequels of all time!

  • I loved coppola's speech.

  • Was there any doubt that Godfather wouldn't win?

  • I thought Finding Nemo should have won

  • chinatown should have won, much better than godfather 2, godfather 2 is good but is extremly boring for many parts and it drags on for to long

  • Wait second here... they clapped for all the other nominees except for GODFATHER??? This is an outrage!!!

  • @botwindfish wow! you are right!! O__O

I think its also known as envy ;)

  • I bought the LaserDisc, I don't even think it's widescreen, sadly, no SE or Special Edition, but we would still favor the LD for leading to DVD, at the time, the best media. I heard James Caan on local radio the past week as well, pretty cool! Pacino says of his work in it, he was deathly afraid of being fired the whole time (GF 1 )

  • very interesting statement by francis f. coppola

  • Well deserved

  • All the movies were great.

  • lol all the other nominees are like "Yeah, yeah, get it overwith" when they announce The Godfather.

  • lol all the other nominees are like "Yeah, yeah, get it overwith" when they announce The Godfather.

  • agree!!! avatar focuses on digital shit and stuff, the Godfather, just..wow!! although i didnt know why part three was a quite a good ending for me. what do you guys think? what made part 3 the weak link? i loved 1 and 2

  • shit man. that sound is so powerful. every time i hear it i get goose bumps all over and im a guy!!

  • love that music

  • The towering inferno?..em, it looks like a smurf next to The Conversation, Godfather II, Chinatown and Lenny.

  • Gray looks so young here. Notice how they nearly lapped Francis to the stage to get their golden trinket. Us Gray alums out here have about the same experiences to tell about his classes. He now teaches at Oklahoma City Community College and started the only complete film school in the state. He left O.U. because of the lag in technology. I helped him set up the last class he taught. Boy was he mad. They gave him George Lynn Cross 123 again. It had an analogue 3-head projector.

  • this is the shortest acceptance speech for best picture that i have ever seen.

  • i didn't think it was possible for someone to think THE GODFATHER wasn't worthy of "best picture." it's worthy of "best picture of all time" if you ask me.

  • What a competitive year... Chinatown, The Conversation, The Godfather: Part II are all worthy.

But The Towering Inferno? Worst nomination in history?

  • Calling Godfather 2 a sequel is an insult and extremely degrading, it's much too good for that
