  • Candy Man was his nickname... looks like he was in the middle of a bender

  • "Try a banana in your shoe, and you'll know what a day is."

  • that shirt and shoe was just wrong. wrong, i say, wrong.

  • you can hear the crew laughing at 1:58

  • Let's have a show of hands, how many other kids tied this experiment themselves? Yes, in all details.

  • I wanted to try it, but my parents didn't want me to do anything foolish.

  • I'm actually crying with laughter. This guy really is a legend!

Only he would try and find out if a shoe was a alive and go about it in such a hilarious way!

  • See, I read that actors tend to let their hair (facial & head) grow out between roles so they the hairdressers have more to work with once they start working on their next movie. If they kept their hair short, and then a role required long hair, they'd have to wait for the hair to grow before filming could start.

  • The same 3 steps Cookie Monster applied to a rock in a later sketch.

  • oh my god....put a banana in your shoe?...ha ha ha....crazy man....

  • Williams is the man!

i've loved him since I was a child and he played the genie in Aladdin, Robin is so handsome and hilarious I love this man

  • lol, he completely ruined that shoe. xD

  • AHAHA "well it has a sole~" XD

LOLL "com'on blow baby blow! "

i would've love to watch him on sesame street, i mightve not understood heis jokes but hey--that wouldve have been great to see him on there ;D

  • sheesh! you can actually hear the banana squish when he puts the shoe back on.

  • 0:53

that's what she said... oh, yeah...

  • That poor shoe.

  • I heard giggling in the background after he put his shoe back on.

  • How about a fire? It breathes, it eats and it grows. Is putting out a fire murder?:O

  • i watched this!

  • He just put a banana, peanuts, and dog food in his shoe. Then cracked a nut with it.

  • I think this is the first thing I even saw Robin in. I was just a little kid, but I knew I liked him instantly. :)

  • When I was little I imagined the confetti were sprinkles, and kibble was coco puffs. I Thought it was a Hot Fudged Sundae!

  • You know, I recall reading somewhere that Robin grows a beard when playing dramatic roles and being clean shaven while doing comedy. He sure goes against that routine here, and whenever he's on Sesame Street for that matter.

  • Dead Poets Society?

  • "This shoe is definitely not alive. Even though, it is a fabulous nut-cracker. (CRACK!)" LOL!

  • BLOW, BABY, BLOW!

    Lawl.

  • Wow, Robin sure looks creepy here! What year was this?

  • "Baby been good! There you go!"LOL I can't get enough of this great bloke. :)

  • Wow, omg, I remember this when I was in really little, like 3 or 4. =)

I used to think this was sooo funny when he put the banana in his shoe. And I don't think I ever payed attention before to the part where he said that his shoe has a sole.

  • When Robin does a show, he's talking about "BLOW BABY BLOW" in a COMPLETELY different way!

  • I don't remember this clip, but boy is it funny! I can't believe he didn't take out the bannana. When he hits the peanut, it reminds me of Galager

  • All I can think of when he hits that nut is Galager!

  • black galager bitch!

  • boy, I never realized that it was Williams, either!

  • I remember watching this as a little kid and wondering who that funny, bearded man is! And today I found out. Robin Williams is the bomb!

  • I'm tellin' you, try a banana in your shoe and you'll know what a day is.

  • "its smells but thats not one of the questions.." my favorite part

  • i love his shirt

  • lol.

    it has a sole.

    it smells.

    happy new year.

  • THIS is children's tv... what happened?

Spongebob, Chowder... I miss Scooby Doo, and show's like this. Don't you?

  • actually, i find chowder and spongebob to be quite intelligent on their own. watching it from a perspectve different from a childs is very interesting.

  • yeah when your high

  • I specifically remember this skit from when I was little. I always thought robin williams was crazy. This proves it. (j/k) haha...

  • lol, wow. this made me hungry and laugh my stomach hurts now.

  • Lol...I remember this

  • I remember as a kid, watching this with my mom; who was hoping that he wouldn't put his shoe back on after all the things he did to it.

  • This wins the internets forever.

And a slice of pie. :)

  • No, you kidding me? All this time, that was Robin Williams? I had no idea.

  • dont feel too stupid, it took me years to figure it out, and i wasnt even consciously thinking about it, it was a memory!

Lingering question, was that Williams, YES IT WAS!

  • He does Doubtfire!

  • "blow baby blow!!!" I found that hilarious

yeah i know im immature but so are you if your watching Sesame Street

  • Epic win.

  • Ha,ha! "Try a banana on your shoe, and you'll know what a day is!" Funny, and classic!

  • Ah, man. :) This was one of the best Sesame Street sketches ever.

  • "it's got a sole"

    Love Robin in a beard

  • I've never seen this, and I was drinking some tea when he said that, I had to cover my mouth I laughed so hard! I didn't see that coming, just hilarious

    -E

  • Oh dear... his shoes is ruined. Haha. This is amazing though. I could watch clips like these all day.

  • i like robin he's pretty cool and he's mad good with kids

  • This is almost creepy.

    (But awesome. I love Robin.)

  • heh i remember this from when i was a kid

  • hahaha awesome

  • i remember when i was three, i used to try to "feed" my shoes bananas after seeing this clip. :X

  • Haha, are you serious?

I did the very same thing. I was infatuated with this clip. I still don't understand why XD

  • LOL...that's hilarious!

  • Anyone ever see "Bicentenial Man" -he wasn't alive. He played a 'droid that wants to be human. Like Data, but with better acting.

  • Robin is awesome. I totally remember this from when I was younger! It has always stuck in my head for some reason.

  • lol this was on a kids show lol go robin

  • robin williams. what a legend!

  • That Shirt is awesome!!

  • Baha so good. I would so eat that shoe!

  • I'd swear I could hear the faint sound of the crew laughing when he puts the shoe back on...

  • Oh, me, too. I can't understand how they avoided laughing up 'til then ...

  • "Try a banana in your shoe and you'll know what a day is"

  • I remember seeing this!!!

  • Classic...

  • That's a big ass hamburger. Looks like a damn hockey puck in between those buns...

  • That is a monster hamburger.

  • was this seriously on sesame street?? lol

  • Lol, yeah.

You'd be surprised at some of the stuff that was on Sesame Street.

  • Robin even if somthing is alive you can,t watch it grow.

  • Then do you believe his shoe is alive?

  • Well he was waiting for it to grow. That is what I ment.

  • LOL. Classic!

  • Who would want to feed DOG FOOD to a shoe? (Well, Robin Williams for one...)

  • lol i wouldn't want to put that shoe on right after that skit! ^_^

  • "Try a banana in your shoe, then you'll know what a day is." LMAO

  • I love hearing the crew laugh in the background.

  • blow baby! Blow!!!

  • Shoe: Can I have a hamburger?

    RW: Why sure you can!

Shoe: Can I have a banana? Eek Eek!

  • ha ha "Happy New Year!" lol

  • All that trouble to find out that thew shoe is definetely not alive?

    This guy's dumb!

  • He's just helping little children to know how to tell. He's a great comedian and actor. :)

    ~BSG

    God Bless

  • This might require a lot of thought processing from you considering how you seem to have more air then brain being encased by what we'd call a cranium, but here, this might explain why he went through such trouble...

    "Sesame Street"

  • amonnar: Robin is a comedic genius. And the skit is meant to be funny.

  • Correction: WAS a comedic genius. Haven't you seen License To Wed or Patch Adams?

  • 0rip0: Yes, and I STILL found humor in those films. Maybe it's just me.

  • OMG, I remember this! Thanks for posting.

  • diggin the shirt

  • Robin Williams at his hairiest.

  • I nearly died laughing when he tried to feed it XD

  • Yeah! When he makes up the jokes while trying to feed it it,s just as funny as hearing his two well known comidic charcters,Batty Koda from Fern Gully and Genie from Aladdin one and three.

  • this used to make me laugh so hard when i was a kid and i still find it to be brilliant!

  • i thought this was funny lol

  • thats one big ass burger

  • My highlight - definitely the dog food.

  • You can hear the crew laughing-- he made that up right on the spot! :D Lol, awesome.

  • BLOW baby BLOW, does it like BANANA, maybe it's a little picky maybe it like pea-NUTS...it'll makes a good NUTcracker.. and finally i'm telling you Try a Banana in your shoe and you'll know what a day is!!

  • You can hear the crew cracking up!

  • OMG I REMEMBER THIS!

  • "Try a banana in your shoe and you'll know what a day is."

    Amen, Robin.

  • he sodimized the shoe

  • Did kids get this? I just have vision of three year olds staring blankly at their TV sets.

  • I doubt putting a banana and dog food in a shoe would be humor that would go over kids heads.

  • omg, the memories.

  • its stinks that in present day parents would've thought a kid show like this would've been insane and sued the company for displaying it on tv...even back in our time its an amazing show

  • This clip is before my time, but I can tell you now that RW would have freaked my three-year-old self out.

  • Yeah, I'll admit I used to get freaky when he said "Happy New Year!" Maybe it was the beard.

  • i totally remember watching this when i was little!!!!! I didn't know that it was Robin, though!! This is amazing.

  • I saw shoes in other Sesame Street skits that seemed like they were alive. He should've used one of them!

  • I don't understand, is the shoe alive? He never said yes or no. Please help.

  • He said "Nothing! Zip! Do Da! That's right. This shoe is deffently not alive. Even though it is a fabulous nut cracker." Does that make sense?

  • happy new year! LMFAO

  • Is the shoe alive? It got a soul! XD

  • You mean a SOLE. I get it! ROFLMAO!!!!

  • really? "roflmao?" wow...u guys r really into this

  • I didn't quite catch what he said when he was trying to "feed" the shoe the dog food."I love that old shoe . . ." and I can't quite make out what he says after that. Anybody know?

  • He was saying something in the area of "1 year is equal to 8 years", joking about remiscing about an old dog.

  • Yeah! In full he means "1 human year is equal to 8 dog years" Which mean a dog that,s 1 in human years is 8 in dog years.

  • Just because something isn't alive doesn't mean it's dead.

P.S.: What the hell is Robin Williams doing on this show?!?

  • Especially doing comedy with a beard on. I've always heard bhe does serious stuff in beard.

  • MANY celebrities have made guest appearances in Sesame Street/Muppet-related sketches and shows.

    The list is truly COUNTLESS!!

  • He didn't say it was "Dead" he said it wasn't alive, which is correct. Just because something is not alive does not mean it is dead, Peanarchist. Also, Robin Williams made many appearances on Sesame Street, like many other celebrities back in its heyday.

  • This is one of the best segments in sesame street.

Why can't the present skits be as good as the retro stuff

  • Even tho the styles robin chose were a little dated (that shirt, the hair, the shows), this is the best Sesame Street sketch of all time

  • umm...Robin's style was dated because...That's what people wore in he 80's! (scratches head)

  • Dated? ....When do you think Robin did this act? Nowadays?

  • A real long time ago bub . I was like 6 so around 12 years ago .

  • Crckrjck: It was even earlier than that, as it aired in the early 90's.

  • Gotta love robin williams...no one's too big to be on sesame street...best show EVER!

  • Yeah, even the Simpson made a guest appearance once.

  • Lol, yeah. Even Richard Pryor was on. XD

  • i'm tellin you, try a banana in your shoe and you'll know what a day is LOL!

  • lol Robin is so funny

  • You can hear the people in the studio laughing when he puts the shoe back on with the banana still in it!

  • What a schmuck!

  • that is a BIG FUCKING HAMBURGER!

  • Nothing! Zip-Doo-Dah! LOL!!

  • HA! Some classic Rob-the one everyone impersonates.

  • lol i remember watching this when I was little

  • I love Robin Williams as the Genie in Aladdin one and three.

  • Isn't this the guy who did the "Banna Phone" album?

  • You're thinking of Raffi. Sure does look like him though.

  • Yeah,he also looks a little like Ringo Starr too.
