i like his music alot been listening for a while but i never took the time to figure out is this considered a band or a solo artist? is the singer's name john butler?
@iguanaman07 *facepalm* do you know what a trio is? tri means 3.. (eg:TRIangle) John Butler is the main singer and guitarist but has more than himself, even though he calls him self thr trio (there are more than 3 that work with him in his music) it sounds catchy aswell John Butler Trio... also, it may have been a 3 man band from the start, i dunno, havent read his history..
@kidfromdownunda i know exactly what a trio is. if it was just "john butler" then i would know he's a solo artist *facepalm* I was just asking. i know many solo artists dont do everything on their own but theyre still considered solo artists
@iguanaman07 Then why the hell are you asking? dont facepalm me, as your the idiot here, he has had the same people in his trio in his band for a while (except when the old band left) its a trio, so why ask it and ''facepalm'' when your the idiot?
@kidfromdownunda i'm not an idiot. I was asking because i wanted to make sure i didnt know some bigot asshole was going to reply rudely, something you surely would not do in person im sure. "is he considered a single artist or a solo artist" i believe it's a valid question. so dont get so offended Mr. keyboard warrior. you facepalmed me first. lol
@MusashiChanFR if you watch the revolution video its a bit closer up detail i cant make it out at a guess id say sommat like the hammer and sickle emblem but thats not a definet guess
Love JBT, by the way. I hope once I'll be able to see them live again. It was the most amazing concert ever. I'm sad because of the sudden end. Greetings from Czech republic.
OMG, why does people still speak 'bout his haircut? It doesn't matter what he's got on his head. He's still great musician with great band and fuc*ing perfect music. THAT's what matters. Nothing else.
@MusashiChanFR In the words of Scroobius pip "Thou shalt not stop liking a band just because they have become popular" you are as bad as the people hating on Bob Dylan when he turned electric. Musicians need to change and develop. If he had played the same you would be in the crowd complaining how all his music stayed the same!
@GoblinJuiceII You can evolve, change and do better...Radiohead is always better and always different just to make a compare...this JBT is just soup ; formated music for formated people ; far from what they can do and did.
@MusashiChanFR I think he is as good as he has always been. I don't know if there is a band where, when they change, people make these statements. I know people who have said this kind of stuff against Radiohead. It is your opinion in the end but it is not soup. I think it is what he wants to write and wants to play, it is still from his heart, he is just older and wants to play differently that is all.
Look at yourself in the mirror.... now think back a year or two. Are you the same person? Do you look the same? chance are you don't.... so pipe down and enjoy the music :)
People change, havent you herad this before? If ypou dont like it, get out, dont listen to him! but please do all of us who love him a favor, KEEP it to YOURSELF!!!
People change, i havent herad this before? If ypou dont like it, get out, dont listen to him! but please do all of us who love him a favor, KEEP it to YOURSELF!!!
The people moaning about the fact musicians change their style over time just annoys me. They have to develop, or they'll get nowhere. Especially John Butler.... So what if his lyrics are more optimistic than they have been in the past? It's a true representation of how he's feeling. He's being honest and expressing the things he feels passionately about. And in my opinion, he deserves all the good things he's acheived in life.
I first drummer and the first bassist were better in my point of you. The gimmick here is amazing, but Funky Tonight is simply the best, in this kind of song.
being a rasta I'm afraid for his dreadlocks cause I know what they mean, but i'ts up to every single person. I prefered him with dreads, but I have my "personal" reasons for it ;)
And guys, do you really think John Butler could be NOT authentic?! People are changin, propably he´s just livin a side of himself that he did not show outside before! I think we should be grateful for all the music he did, doesn´t matter what you think about the new songs...
easily the best stuff that has been realised in a while. .its far from selling out. he's still doing things he's way. still bit of the old on the new album. brilliant stuff

Where are the Sound of the genious other players? It's very hard for me to say, but this new Songs from the new Album are three chord pop crap!!!
@maximuto u meant 12 strings guitar? he used electric guitars before for example on used to get high so i dont get ur point rly. and if u dont like his new cd then why r u listening to it?
its a very alternative feel, thats for sure. Its different than his other stuff, but its a different drummer and basist what do you expect. Also he is working with different mediums of music. Who knows what he has in store, I am just wondering about concerts if they are going to play his other stuff. Also how the other band members may fare
He won't beat the spirit of "Sunrise over sea". These new songs are not authentic. It's an unsuccessful attempt to sell his new crap among the commercial music. Where are the roots? Look at him. A dressy ear plug, indie style. Why does John Butler try to make his music look fashionable?
Yeah, but change is what John is about ... he's always had a "revolving stage" of fellow musicians - from his early days through Three and into Sunrise and Grand National and now with April Uprising. The man is all about pushing is frontiers and exploring new ground, what better way than to play and learn with new musicians?
couldnt agree more with final line of your comment, i play myself and totally understand. stay playing with the same people all the time and you become stale. top job
@starscream623 yeah but it wa his plan all along to change members after a period of time so his sound didn't become the same after awhile and even though his old band were great and they made some great music the new guys are bringing more of a rock feel too his songs and it's a good transition...
Lol Gotta love Byron 1:35 and I never new he had such an insatiable hunger for oranges. Gotta love the trio and all their work. Peace, take her easy dude.

All the people that hate this new album have no clue! Seriously people....LISTEN TO THE MEANING OF THE LYRICS!!!!!!!!!!! You've just all been brainwashed it's ok...COME BACK TO REALITY!!!! AND STOP THE HATING....no one likes profanity and negativity..that's why this world is going to hell if people don't start waking up :0
but i saw him yesterday in hamburg. and he played some of his new stuff and mostly his old things.
and also. it was AWESOME.
he is still the same i believe. all of his songs were different previous to april uprising, and on april uprising all of them are different as well. so its just some thing new.
and his new band memebers are also good. drummer pulled off a kick ass solo
Sorry, just missing the power of the percussion and bass performed by Mike and Shannon, I admit I'm crying my heart out, this is OK lusic but just music, not JBT !! You hear it once or twice and then done, but I'm still getting a kick from Zebra, Mist, Better than and all the previous songs......Sorry, but this is like chocolate chip cookies without chocolate...........
I don't dislike the new JBT sound, it's just that it sounds too simple for John's calibre of playing, artists are supposed to start off simple and then mature as musicians as they get more famous, the music sounds effortless, like they had to rush to get this album out, John could have made the same album with Shannon and Michael and would probably sound better!!!
When i first found out that the members of JBT had changed, it seemed strange to me, but I see why he has done it. April Uprising is different to all of JBT's other pieces, but it hasnt changed so much that it has become something else. He hasnt 'Sold Out', JBT still has the roots vibe that their music has always had. Stop being downers :P, who knows, Mike and Shannon might come back in the future and JBT may sound COMPLETELY different to Grand National, and people will still have a whinge.
i agree hey. peoples taste change, just like john has picked up the electric guitars a bit more now. he used to play the 12 stringed matons exclusivley, but now hes expanding his musically pallette to bring in different sounds to play
@Zoidberg1221 I don't think so, JBT always passioned me with hes different view and taste, actually he still has it, but not quite in this song and his new band memmbers !
@Zoidberg1221 I don't think so! JBT has always passioned me with there different style, view and taste of music! Actually, john still has it, but not this song and his new band memmbers
@Zoidberg1221 the new jbt lacks creativity. it's good to see he wants to reinvent his style, but the new songs have boring mainstream riffs and dull melodies. it's not what made jbt what they are today.
@Zoidberg1221 grand national is far from being typical john butler's sound.. and sorry, but this is nothing but commercial pop music. good sound engineer, barely good musicians, bad composers is how to resume this album.
this music is what? a riff that stays in your mind, lyrics for teenagers, and well recorded drums that give some energy to the track.
@taurtue who are you to depict JB's sound, hes lost and gained fans through this new sound, those fans who stick by this change are the true supporters
@muso331 Im objectively pointing out fats, the John Butler who sat in a tree for several months isn't the same as this one, which music is being put in H&M for example. He's lost his authenticity, and his fight for rights
@sakiroglan31 The difference is that it just not did become popular like this, he did everything in order to become popular. Listen to the way his tracks are mixed, it's REALLY obvious.
@jldbjldb so what? now more people listen to them and more people are inspired by him. we're typing under a song critisizing how we fall into monotone cycles and we should always try to maintain a balance within this life and keep our passion alive. I went to the other albums and listened to his media criticism songs, his monopoly criticism songs etc after I fell in love with this album. I'm sure that's how it works for everyone else whose discovered him late like I have.
stupid douche bags. JBT has not changed at all, its still the same funky vibe that captured fans at the start of course every song is not going to sound identical otherwise it would be shit. Artists are supposed to mature people and this song is fucking grouse

Incredible musician. Would love to be at his level on guitar

I saw it live in Cologne! AMAZING!

many people say he sold out. he did. kind of.
but i saw him yesterday in hamburg. and he played some of his new stuff and mostly his old things.
and also. it was AWESOME.
he is still the same i believe. all of his songs were different previous to april uprising, and on april uprising all of them are different as well. so its just some thing new.
and his new band memebers are also good. drummer pulled off a kick ass solo

It's really different from the past trio...hope that Grand National will come back in a very next future....

@Zoidberg1221
i agree hey. peoples taste change, just like john has picked up the electric guitars a bit more now. he used to play the 12 stringed matons exclusivley, but now hes expanding his musically pallette to bring in different sounds to play
taijamesglasson 1 year ago
@Zoidberg1221 he got rid of that really cool bassist?

@Zoidberg1221 I don't think so, JBT always passioned me with hes different view and taste, actually he still has it, but not quite in this song and his new band memmbers !

@Zoidberg1221 the band changes about every album dude, he says its for inspiration from new sources. definitely good with that haha
Machacha5000 1 year ago
@Zoidberg1221 the new jbt lacks creativity. it's good to see he wants to reinvent his style, but the new songs have boring mainstream riffs and dull melodies. it's not what made jbt what they are today.
tobiusa 1 year ago
@Zoidberg1221 grand national is far from being typical john butler's sound.. and sorry, but this is nothing but commercial pop music. good sound engineer, barely good musicians, bad composers is how to resume this album.
this music is what? a riff that stays in your mind, lyrics for teenagers, and well recorded drums that give some energy to the track.
it's all about selling music
taurtue 1 year ago
@taurtue who are you to depict JB's sound, hes lost and gained fans through this new sound, those fans who stick by this change are the true supporters
muso331 11 months ago
@muso331 Im objectively pointing out fats, the John Butler who sat in a tree for several months isn't the same as this one, which music is being put in H&M for example. He's lost his authenticity, and his fight for rights
taurtue 11 months ago
@taurtue is that why nearly all of his lyrics have some sense of uprising in them? Just coz it's popular doesn't mean he's lost his authenticity.
sakiroglan31 11 months ago
@sakiroglan31 The difference is that it just not did become popular like this, he did everything in order to become popular. Listen to the way his tracks are mixed, it's REALLY obvious.
jldbjldb 11 months ago
@jldbjldb so what? now more people listen to them and more people are inspired by him. we're typing under a song critisizing how we fall into monotone cycles and we should always try to maintain a balance within this life and keep our passion alive. I went to the other albums and listened to his media criticism songs, his monopoly criticism songs etc after I fell in love with this album. I'm sure that's how it works for everyone else whose discovered him late like I have.

I'm with you! Every good band expands and changes their sound...it keeps them fresh and opens up new audiences...
Go with it I say!

stupid douche bags. JBT has not changed at all, its still the same funky vibe that captured fans at the start of course every song is not going to sound identical otherwise it would be shit. Artists are supposed to mature people and this song is fucking grouse
