  • @LaurentziuRo Thank you....Maureen

  • Oh, Maureen, your rendition of this beautiful poem is honey to the ears. The purity of your voice, the sweetness and cadence, the expression - all conspires to uplift the listener. William Butler Yeats would have been proud of this. God bless you, my dear. - Peter in New Zealand, far from home.

  • @Frurotot Thank you for this lovely comment. I really appreciate you leaving such nice words.

  • Absolutely beautiful. I was assigned this piece for a vocal class and this is the perfection I'm going to try and aim for. Lovely :)

  • Wow, this song has me in tears. So beautiful. I'm Irish but have never seen my homeland. This song makes me miss a place I've never been to.

    Absolutely stunning.

  • @Yaklich Thank you for your beautiful comment. Maureen.

  • I just didn't like some notes, they are a bit shrill, maybe it is my headset that is not apropriate, but I prefer this song sung by Orla Fallon, anyway, you have a great voice. Is all you CD, Ireland, Mother Ireland, uploaded on youtube? I would love to listen to it. I won't find it to buy where I live :(

  • What a moving song/poem. This was simply gorgeous. Your voice reminds me of Judy Collins, folk singer from the 60's-70's. Thanks for sharing this with us. I'm a multi-instrumentalist with a wide range of styles and interests. Would love to hear you in a live performance! Beautiful.

  • @MultiMandoman Thanks for your comment. This is one of William Butler Yeats best known poems.

  • To Hylkjerulz, just wondered which image you were asking about,is it the lady in the boat? I have lots of these images in books,I could possibly tell you the name of the painting the image came from.

  • Yours is a beautiful rendition of the tune to which my Irish grandfather was to serenade my grandmother and once again on their fiftieth wedding anniversary. They came "on the boat" with my parents and brought their love of music with them. ^..^~

  • Thank you for your comment

  • You're quite welcome! :-) Sometimes my heart longs for Ireland, Scotland, or Wales and listening to voices like yours, Mary Black, Karen Matheson, Kathleen MacInnes and Julie Fowlis singing the traditional tunes helps to comfort a lonely soul. ^..^!

  • You're quite welcome. It kind of hurts to know that were it not for the troubles in the Northern Counties at the time, I'd have been born in Country Derry or perhaps across the North Channel in County Midlothan, amidst generations and generations of Celts and Gales making lovely music such the likes of yours. I guess I'm more Celt than yank. Best wishes to you from across the big pond. Robert.

  • ... Is there any chance of you having the picture on your computer, from when you were making the video? Is it too much asking if you could send it to me by e-mail?

  • ... Sorry about your back problems by the way. Hope you are feeling better now :)

  • Oh, so then I take it you don't remember what book the booklet was on?

  • very well sung, and the tempo just right .The word WEIR does not come out very clear at 2: 30 but apart from that super recording.

  • Wonderful. I had only ever heard a version sung by Jim Mcann. You have a beautiful voice.

  • Thank you. I really appreciate your comment.

  • This whole experience made my day: the song, the voice, the paintings. So very beautiful and pure <3

The painting at 1:35 really touched me; does anyone know what it's called/who the painter is?

  • Thank you for your lovely comment. Maureen

  • Sorry for not replying before now but I have been suffering with back problems and couldn't even sit at the computer. The painting you mention I scanned from a booklet.....I do not have any information about it at all. My apologies. Maureen

  • Merveilleux air. La meilleure interprétation que je connaisse sur Youtube. Quelle voix ! à la douceur du velours. Bravo et merci

  • Amazing. You have a fantastic voice. This is such a lovely song that brings back so many memories. You certainly do it justice. Thanks so much.

  • Thank you so much. Music certainly brings back memories......all good I hope.

  • MAUREEN ~

Glad that T.J. has introduced us!

"Down By The Salley Gardens" is one of my favorites, from listening to John McCormack recordings when beginning voice studies.

Your very lovely, lyrical voice and intuitive sense of phrasing are PERFECT for this timeless melody ~ BRAVA!!

  • wow... great job... the second picture displayed caught my eyes... WHERE DOES THIS PAINTING COME FROM? Please I'm desperately looking for that...

  • Hi,

i think its called " the Lady of Shallotte"

Really the lady ellainor. I can give you the artist if you ask

    ta

    Mark

  • Thanks mark... I really like to know the artist's name...

  • Hi , it is by John Willam Waterhouse .

He painted three episodes from the poem. In 1888, he painted the Lady setting out for Camelot in her boat; this work is now in the Tate Gallery. The poem is The Lady of Shallote by Tennyson.

I have the same painting as the cover on my favourite in " Scarborough Fair" by Simon and Garfunkel. Shall I swend it to you?

    thanks

    Mark

  • Oh my but that was just fantastic! I do believe it is the most beautiful of all I have found on Youtube. Thank you so VERY much!

  • Thank you for your lovely comment.

  • Oh my, what a beautiful voice you have. The video is lovely!

  • Thank you. I have just visited your channel and will be back to spend more time looking at your very interesting videos.

  • Your version is the one - I feel - the most beautiful, from what I've heard till now.

  • Thank you very much.

  • The least I can do is express my wholehearted gratitude to Maureenderry and YouTube. Without you both, I would have never "discovered" Maureen Hegarty and her incredibly voice. Irish (and celtic) music should be internationally recognized as one of the best. This vid deserves a 5 star rating (the website won't allow us to go above that).

  • Thank you so much for the lovely compliments. I agree with you about Irish (and Celtic) music. There are some beautiful airs that do not get the chance to be heard.

  • merci

    Lucile
