I'm not going to argue with some of the vocal criticisms, but this performance must be taken in the context of the ongoing show, how she compared to the other performers, how totally opposite to her personality she played, etc. I absolutely loved it when I saw it. Keep in mind, though, that she only lasted until the top 5, so obviously she wasn't the favorite of a huge number of viewers. None-the-less, the judges and Cindy Lauper saw something in that performance they liked.

I find it funny when people compare her on Canadian Idol to SA. She was 17 on CI, and just beginning to discover who she was as a performer, and is 20 now (or will be in 13 days, apparently), coming into her own. I haven't seen Spring Awakening, but if she's as good as everyone makes her out to be, then simply be impressed by her growth as an artist in only 3 years. For myself, she's still one of my favorites ever from CI. I was heartbroken when she was eliminated.
