Brilliant underrated actor. He will always be Batman to me.I was kind of hoping he might talk about Mr. Mom or some of his underrated roles like One Good Cop and Touch And Go.
Great interviewer and (obviously) incredible interviewee. Along with the other four people he mentioned, Duvall, Kidman, Close and Arkin, Keaton is one of our greatest living actors.
Great interview, but I REALLY wish someone would ask him if he would ever reunite with Tim Burton for a third Batman film- in sort of a mentor-like role. It would be epic and chance to finish a trilogy the way it deserves to be.
great actor.love him.forget multiplicity( great film by the way ).michael is multi-talented.there is nothing this man cannot do.he is the only batman-he puts the others to shame- no stupid batman voices like bale.he still looks good.
this is really odd. But when he starts talking about Beetlejuice look at the time on the screen its at 3:50. so there is something to this 3 B words thing LOL
Michael Keaton's a marvelous talent. For me, his comic roles have been the most resonant - Night Shift, Mr. Mom & Beetlejuice; but also Batman. His performances have brought me much laughter and happiness. From this interview, he seems a very modest, genuine & authentic personality - brought up in Allegheny Co. PA with a need to seek something more exciting & fulfilling. I empathize with him, as I myself "escaped" a very small town in the Poconos to pursue a creative career.

why does Keaton never look people in the eye, whether he's talking or listening, it's the same; it's the same even when he's acting? an occasional darting glance. makes him look socially stunted.
Couldn't have said it better, i agree. That Keaton is the best, hands down. I also thought that his BettleJuice and Desperate Measure performances were phenomenal and out of this world. The rewatch value in all of his films are overwhelming!
a question thats been bugging me for ages... Michael Keatons real name is Michael douglas, why did he change it?, i'm not sure but my theory is he changed it to Keaton to stop confusion with the other michael douglas.
Michael Keaton is a ridiculously underrated actor. Comedy is one of the hardest things to do on film and he pulled it off. He also proved his acting chops in films like Pacific Heights and then demonstrated he could be an action hero as well in the brilliant Tim Burton films (Christian Bale is a fine actor and a great Batman but does not register in comparison to Michael Keaton). The fact that he turned down a lot of money to be in Batman Forever speaks volumes about his integrity as an actor.
Well, i'm not sure as to why he turned down Batman Forever, but. There are rumors, one of the rumors are. That, the cast and script direction wasn't good enough to match his past film exposure.
In other words, people were saying that the script sucked and that Keaton didn't want anything to do with the script. I thought that the script was decent, but. I wasn't true to the original Batmans, only Burton could pull those off, but didn't return for this one and the newer pictures.
Michael Keaton is an icon. A REAL one. Not one of these newbie gimmicky actors you see on the screen. And he is the only BATMAN I will live to remember. Such a great time... 1989 :)
LOVE IT. I LOVE BEETLEJUICE ITS AMAZING AS IS HE BRILLIANT LIVE BTW. Keaton is batman no two ways about it. bale isnt terrible but you cant beat keaton. hey you cant get worse then george clooney as batman people. KEATON ALL THE WAY!!!
Consider movies like Beatlejuice, the first two Batman movies from the previous series (That Joel Schumacher messed up and essentially ruined), he also played WONDERFULLY in the comedy "MULTIPLICITY" , remember that movie???? He played 4 FOUR different guys in that movie lol. Remember Rico, and Lance two of the clones??LOL. ALL played my the same guy Michael Keaton. I mean Keaton is so talented and I feel very underrated!! Bale is good, but not even he can do what Keaton did in such variety.
I love Keaton! When's he going to make a come back? He all ready appeared in a Tarantino movie, that should have been his damn come back! Also, he should've made an appearance in the new Batman movies.
This interview was special. Keaton was not only my favorite Batman but remains one of my favorite actors. I seriously look forward to his triumphant return to the top. Where the hell has this man been? More Michael Keaton, please... - Max
michael keaton's a way better batman than bale. have you not heard christian bale's extremely STUPID voice he puts on whenever he's saying a line as batman, u can't begin2get in2 the film when theres some twat not knowing how2act. he's ok as bruce wayne but whenever he puts on the bat suit (which by the way looks shite compared2the other films from1989 until1997...same with the batmobile)he sounds like some retarded monster and he just fucks up the film.Keatons decent
I know, I mean for those that say Nale is a better actor???...Have you people seen beatleguise?? Michael Played him perfectly to the T. The FOLLOWING year he played Batman. Two COMPLETELY different personality and he played them BOTH perfectly to the T. For those that may foget , Beatleguise is a horror/comedy character (more so comedy in my opinion) that in many ways acts like Freddy Kruger, he's funny, inovative, a comedian and creative, and the SAME guy played Batman. I mean THATS TALENT!!!!
one of my favourite actors ever! would have LOVED to have seen him face ledgers joker in the new batman, he deserved the role so much more than bale. Bale did a poor job and that whispering he chose to do was vulgar. Keaton will be batman forever ;).
He's also my guilty older crush :P for a 57 year old he's smokin, and always was in his younger days!
Michael Keatons Batman against Leadgers Joker would have been awesome I agree. Now....Christian Bales Batman against JACK NICHOLSONS Joker, Oh my, I would feel sorry for Bales Batman, because Nicholsons Joker would own him. Nicholsons Joker freaked me out as a kid (I was like 8 when the first Batman film came out in 1989) and I remember I hated him because he was so scary., I mean Jack Nicholson REALLY did a great job making that Joker scary also in a very comedic, but heartless way.
Your a real Keaton fan thank you for posting this! Bet you even know that his real name is Douglas! I heard two versions why he changed! That Michael Douglas was around and he wanted to avoid confusion and he loved Diane Keatons acting and or he loves Buster Keaton. I think he has said both these things at various times.
They should have used the theme from his batman movie in Batman begins and the Dark Knight. The current Batman music theme is lame compared to the danny elfman theme.
If they ever made a movie based on "The Dark Knight Returns" graphic novel, He must be Batman. I´m not saying this because i think he is very old, but he is the MAN!
I really enjoyed watching this interview. I loved hearing about how he grew up and what his life was like and what inspired him to act. He is one of my all time favorite actors. He is one of the few who can be dramatic, have serious presence, and also be the funniest guy in the room if he chooses to be. Thanks for this video!

Keaton was a poor excuse for Wayne/Batman. Thankfully Nolan and Bale corrected Burton's fetishism for insecure, loners and unleashed a true Wayne/Batman.
The only thing I can say is today's Batman is a totally different animal . The world is violent so are new Batman movies and I don't think Burton or Keaton could carry that.
First I didn't say ledger was bad, he was a good joker, I'm just saying Depp would of been a much better joker, And why would Tim ruin the movie??? Wasnt batman returns the best??? it captured the Darkness of Batman real well.

Finally somebody w/BRAINS. Although I have to disagree on tim burton thing, Have u not seen how dark his style of movies are?? It complements with Batman the "The Dark Knight" so well...
First thank u. Second yeah Burton's movies are dark. N I like them better than Nolan's. People may disagree. I guess I would like to see the dark art of Burton combined with action of Nolan's. I think that would be perfect. Just like I'd like Bale's very phyical Batman combined with Keaton's dark firm preasence. I think Bale makes a good Bruce Wayne. But I don't think he's knows how to play the Batman character. He makes Batman sound like a beast. Bat is a creature of the night. I miss the art.
Ledger's portrayal of The Joker was brilliant but because he died before it was released it gave the role that extra push! it gave it that pedastool status! & fanboys just lap it up & probably grew up with the batman forver, batman & robin movie.
Ledger was just an average actor with the exception of The Joker being a role that took every ounce of his acting ability & energy to a several levels & in the end it took its toll & the role tragically killed him.
Ledgar also played a good junkie, he played a great junkie. What was that movie? Anyway the more I watch Ledgar as Joker I do think he did a better job than Jack did. I like the idea that Joker killed Batmans parents but if Ledgars Joker would have been the one shooting the Wayne's in the alley he would have done all of them. He was totally crazy and he was totally convincing.

I miss the art.

in some ways you are right!

You know something...after remembering Keaton as Beetlejuice, him as the Joker would actually be very interesting. *_*

Keaton rocks. Multiplicity was very under appreciated.
