I think everybody was surprised. We shouldn't have been, though--in the four derbies before this one that he participated in, Wally hit 135 total homers. He hit 35 more in this derby, and he hit 75(!) in the 2008 derby. I'm starting to think we need a drug testing policy.

There are two different models that most of our hitters use: the one that Wally used in the video can be found in the toy section of discount stores like Meijer and Wal-Mart. We found the longer, sturdier model that Pat used at a toy store in Georgetown, KY. After using one of the bats for a few weeks, we returned to buy the rest of their stock. We haven't seen any more of that particular type of bat at that store (or anywhere else) since. If you find some for sale, we'd love to hear about it.

Yes; we tape up almost all the bats--it helps them last longer without breaking and adds a little weight.
