If people like that are making so called, "pros" look bad, then the "pros" must not be that good. Exceptional photographers don't concern themselves with the work of others.
Low res watermarked (tasteful logo in the bottom corner) are given out as long as prints are bought. otherwise there's no possibility for sale after the event
It's the same thing with graphic design... I got a degree, a ton of experience, and understand technical aspects of graphics... just because you got Adobe Creative Suite, and use Photoshop religiously does NOT make you a professional designer. I hate that when I offer my skills to someone, they say "well, this dude I know will charge me $25 for a design, why should I pay highly to you?" Quality over crap, end of story... and no I'm not a "pro" photographer but do it anyway :-)
So true. I spent 7 years learning and didn't do any work for paying clients until 2009 when I became knowledgeable and more adapt to my camera and what I was doing. I learned without using photoshop so since my start I still don't use it. Adobe Lightroom & Photomatic 3 are my favorite 2 programs as it's all I need. If I need a nice background I go out & find it since that's part of being a creative director to. GWC really do tick me off #ThatisAll LOL! (=
I am a decent amateur photog, I have sold a few shots, but in no way does it make me a pro, I do not have the business knowledge, nor do I have the more formal training or education to back up a claim of being pro. The really sad thing is, I on one occasion found myself "advising" a "pro" that did not know much, she had a damned fancy cam, but had no clue how aperture affected DOF, She did not know about fill flash for a backlit shot, she did not understand how focal length affected FOV or DOF.
@johnny0110 I know that, you know that, unfortunately, She seemed to not know that, it is idiots like her that make REAL pro's look pathetic. She was one of those, "I have a pro cam, and few people have liked my pictures, that makes me a pro in this digital age" types of fools that has been spawned by the easy access to good equipment coupled with the ability to shoot non stop, no limitations of film, and see the results instantly, so you can take another less crappy shot right away types.
@skatecubed LOL!! "I have a pro cam, and a few people have liked my pictures". No doubt.... My friend Mike and I talk about this ALL the time. These morons are simply killing the business, and it's sad. I was just shooting a wedding last weekend when I came across an old lady with a shitty little point and shoot standing next to me repositioning my people. I had to say, "hi, are you a hired photographer?" Her response? "no, but Im the brides grandmother and I used to shoot weddings" LOL!!
@skatecubed That person that you advised was no professional! She is a weekend wanna be, digimom, whose husband probably makes a crap load of money and she is just looking for something to do. Having all the "fancy equipment" makes a person no more a professional photographer than standing in their garage makes them a car...
The REAL problem with Professional Photographers today is the LACK of business understanding. While teaching at the Local JR College I took the time to even write a book called Sales, Marketing and Business Guide to Professional Photography available on Amazon. You don't have to be the world's best photographer but you MUST be a great business person. If you don't make 150k a year email me at fmphotography @ att . net (no spaces)
PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY IS MUCH ALIVE!!!! GWC"s can take pictures of wannabe models, but they can't book REAL PUBLISHIED work.... That is why they Photoshop their images to different backgrounds......lack of creativity while the camera is in their hands....hahahahahahahaha lol!!!!
@1musicproducer4u I agree! I'm so happy with the direction I went in so I've worked with lots of celebrities and well known organizations at 19 & 20 years old & still currently 20, I'm still learning as I progress.
LOL oh gosh that photoshop stuff really is a trip! Photography now has been put with graphic design now, but they are TOTALLY DIFFERENT! I wish people would realize that, but we have GWC's to thank for the mix-up! Smh! =(
@dickpatrick1 – whatever you said, it must have been good...cuz it was deleted. @georgibutev – you're an idiot. Van Gogh wasn't trying to be a "commercial" artist, using his god-given talent to provide a living for his family after paying the cost to learn the trade. I own a camera and I can take a great photo but when I need quality I head to the professionals.
Wow that's some Bullshit! Photographers get mad bacause few are dumb enough to spend hundreds on the same crap they can get from a friend with a digital camera for $99. Stop whining and show people that you are true artist! Van Gogh sold two of his paitings and he didn't make a profit out of it yet he is considered a great painter.
Hahah same thing is happening in the design industry too. allot of new cats playing with Photoshop at home. and trying to sell people off by selling (sometimes) good looking designs, but not a good and professional design. And most people will go for the price in stead of quality.
These new "professionals" don't value photography. They don't value their own photos, nor the ones taken by a pro. Their perspective downplays the value of photography because they think it's easy. And they aren't selling photography, but they are selling a discount. That leaves the client wondering why they didn't get the photos they were really seeking. When someone delivers quality and a discount, that totally screws up the profession.
Then she is not a "pro"
