Thornton ties people up when he's fighting a guy like Boogaard who is 6'8 and has 50 pounds on him. There aren't many other guys in the league that weigh 217lbs that fight like he does. Defensive skills are a big part of fighting when there's no weigh in!

Supposedly he's over 6 feet so he's going to be fighting heavy weights. I guess I don't feel real strongly about this, but he's one of the least entertaining fighters out there. Prove me wrong, but I've never seen him cleanly KO or trade blows with anyone, he just wrastles them down.

@bobbycarolina75 Middleweights are over 6 feet in 2011. Bieksa is one of the best, & he's 6'1 like Thornton.It's middleweight, not middleheight. They don't seperate fighters according to height but by weight.

Like I said, watch his fights with Cote, Barch, Boll, Jackman, Low, Neil, Boulton & you'll see that he is willing to trade. His fight with Cote a couple of years back was a fight of the year candidate.

He isn't really a KO fighter. He let's up when he hurts people. (watch the Barch fight)

Great fight, one of the better fights you'll see for sure. Orr had a good start, but Thornton had a good finish. Draw with a slight edge to Thornton.

That was his reputation league wide. He did it to McSorley, he did it to Probert, he did it to Neely, and he did it to MacTavish.

Mark Tinordi used to own Clark because he never let Clark start with a sucker shot. Now I agree Wendel was a great all around player, but he was a cheap fighter.

@BoSoxnation1972 look up carcillos 1st 2 and half years in the NHL, he was a great middleweight, carcillo is listed as both 5'11' and 6ft while i have thornton put as 6'2', but carcillo is not dirty anymore, cooke and avery ar emuch worse, everytime carcillo gets bumped up to a top line like cokoe and avery he produces, he can be a great fighter for his size but he has been bad lately, against slater he slipped and then slater caught him with one as he was getting up, salvador is bigger than DC

I don't disagree that he is a solid middleweight, but my point was that his win over Thornton was lucky. Shawn is a legit heavyweight, and Shawn only weighs 217.

You also said Carcillo can score, unlike Thornton. Shawn has 7 goals this year & is a plus 4. Dan only has 3 goals & is a minus 6! Thornton is a better 2 way player.

@BoSoxnation1972 he probably is a bettter 2 way player and i dont know why i said that originally but thats cus carcillo has been on teh 4th line with shelley and betts all year, he just got moved up to richards line last game and played great with GW goal and overall great play, he lost to slater but he slipped and it was as he was getting up but carcillo was a great middleweight when he 1st entered, so hopefully he will catch in stride in either direction; winning fights or scoring
