However, for a variety of reasons, the game was canned and replaced with Sonic 3D Blast. So naturally, the Christmas special also had its name changed.

@GWRStation Dr Ivo Robtnik and Eggman are one in the same, but in one version he used to be a nice Scientist called Dr. Ovi Kintobor (Ivo Robotnic spelt backwards) but turns evil because of a failed experiment to remove all the evil in the world and place it in the Chaos Emeralds. As a good scientist he even made Sonic shoes so he could actually use his super speed (otherwise his feet would always burn up too quickly). Its actally on Wikipedia this as well so check there for more info.
