@bassoonrama, can you send me a copy of that arrangement?? I play bassoon for my school, and I've really been looking for some fun pieces to play, please and thank youu!!
wow you are really good! im playing bassoon for band. i just started this year. ive been playing for about three months an di have already fumbled through the melody for a lady gaga song!
I have been playing bassoon for a few years now, and I have to say, I have yet to play anything this cool. Haha, the coolest thing I have played ie either "In the Hall of the Mountain King" or "The Imperial March."
Bassoon sounds smooth after you have played it for a while lol trust me when I started. Smooth was the last word you would use to describe the sound coming out of my bassoon. lmao XD
Ohhh, I think I would like this for my bassoon. :]] My friends and I in band like to try to find anything that we know about to play. I'm the only bassoonist in my school though! 8D
no offense but you should only add the upper body movenment if your sight reading or you got a piece really well figured out. if you didn't move and focus more on controlling the air flow you wouldn't have the shaky low notes other than that decent job. Oh try some pieces that aren't a cover. Personally those are a lot more fun to play than something like a popular song on the radio.
Very good playing! I play bassoon also and I love it. I wish I could find songs like this. You sure used a lot of vibrato. Do you do that all the time? I do it on most songs, but not all of them, you know? But, GREAT playing! :)
Well my band director cant get a sound out of the bassoon and she is a flute player but today i switched to bassoon today and i know alot about the bassoon and i switched from b flat clarinet but i think should deffanatly try it doesnt put pressure on your head
i'm in 6th grade band too!!!! the bassoon is really awesome you should think about it cus i play bassoon and im 1st chair in 9th period band and it doesn't cause headaches. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys have 9 PERIODS IN SCHOOL?? Wow....that would be a long day. I play the bassoon too btw. I'm in 7th grade.1st chair in Honors band(the best band) :)Oh-the bassoon is awesome.I agree
thats good, ive been playing for about 6 years now, and id say thats really good, but then again; you could have been playing for like 23 years, so idk
yo you pretty beast on the bassoon. i,ve been playin for bout four and a half months. I aint to bad at it either i can play grade six music. n e wayz how long you been playin?i switched from sax. i always thought bassoon girls were ugly though. o well. keep playin
I like your choice of bassoon for the song and it adds tremolo to the notes during the chorus. Cool effect.I get the feeling your reading off a paper;as a guitarist,I highly recommend that you memorize the 'riff', verse,chorus..etc. and then jam with it. It'll sound more confident.. well, not exactly confident.. Are you appeasing or performing? (Play it or Cover it) One thing I like about nonacademic music;seldom does the group allow itself paper. All memory. We should co tour one day.
no, there aren't... i put them in to make it easier on myself because the combination of keys i had to use was much more annoying in the original key of the chorus
Damn, you're good. Good tone, and everything. I wish I could play like you, but I'm not that good yet :( I'm still working on getting the fingerings down. Flute to bassoon: not an easy transition xD
Hey! I also just switched from flute to bassoon! What a coincidence. I've been playing for a few months. I went to honor band tryouts today on bassoon and actually made it! I was surprised =P
There's only two of us, but I was still suprised that they let me do it even though I'm this new at it. But I've been getting way better, so yeah. Amparito Roca though...that's a hard piece. So is Flashing Winds!
no...embochure is more difficult because u have to drop ur jaw and tighten it when you are playing in the upper range...bassoon is a very challenging instrument to play.
I totally agree with that, but being a player of both oboe and bassoon, I personally would have to say the bassoon embouchure was much easier to to grasp then that of the oboe. Fingering are incredibly more difficult on the bassoon, therefore making it a more difficult instrument overall in my opinion. :)
i have a friend who plays the basson and we are in a wind quintet and you sound really good and the mouth piece is so hard to put air through it you did a great job.
I wrote it in two different keys because the one key for the chorus area was easier to play in a different key.
Also... what do you mean it's not harder to play? Do you play any other instruments besides the bassoon, because I do! The double reed makes everything more difficult and all of the extra keys are definitely confusing to learn.
i (basically) started on clarinet so i've had to deal with many keys since about 5th grade. as for the double reed, i sometimes prefer it to single reeded instruments because you can control it so much easier. i'm a music major and i've been playing bassoon since 11th grade (i'm going into my sophomore year of college) and it's like second nature to me now.
i think that oboe, flute, and french horn are way harder than bassoon.
The best thing I can say to do is simply not to freak out. Just focus on learning all of the fingerings and try not to get nervous about the slightly daunting situation. What's this band for anyways?
School. BUT MY SCHOOL WONT LET ME GO INTO THE 7TH GRADE BAND (even tho im going into 7th grade) Cause he thinks that Im rlly good, and that I can learn the bassoon in 5 weeks (Im not getting the bassoon till wednsday, and I cant practice till a week from monday)
yea, my band teacher thinks that I can be in the 8th grade band when Im in 7th grade, and play the bassoon (me being a first year player) and I would be in a band with people that had been playing for 2 or 3 or even 4 years.
Oh wow... you know someone I know was once put into a similar situation. A friend of mine that plays clarinet skipped over the 4th grade band and went straight to the 5th grade one. She turned out to be one of the greatest clarinet players I know. Who knows, the same kind of thing could happen to you! I know it might seem scary, but maybe you should embrace the opportunity and take it for what it is, a challenge.
Yes, it will be difficult. Yes, it will be stressful. But... yes, it will be worth it. Just go into the situation with the right attitude and I think you'll be glad you did.
okay thanks, and ne ways I will be getting a lesson to teach me basic notes and scales and stuff on wednsday, so ill have a headstart to learning it. How long did it take you to learn 3 or 4 of the basic scales?

not to rain on your parade or anything, but why did you write it in two different keys?
furthermore, bassoon isn't more difficult to play than other instruments really.

I wrote it in two different keys because the one key for the chorus area was easier to play in a different key.
