  • This is Black Thought's best performance on a Roots song

  • This is the music we are missing these days

  • how can u dislike this!

  • Real Hip Hop in its purest form, Word up~

  • 1 cat wasn't born with ears.

  • Murs - Eazy E ... check it out

  • @Teekles

    good song.

  • Black Thought's no doubt one of the most skillful writers in hiphop's history. The way he writes and flows is truly genius.

  • used to listen to this song in college driving in the rain. the little choir in the background fit the atmosphere very well.

  • I forgot how dope this album was!

  • Malik flow is so ill. He always reminded of a N.Y.C rapper. He is an amazing M.C. his flow just rides the beat. Freeway reminds me of a younger version of Malik B.

  • brilliant song......true hip-hop

  • the soundtrack to my first bag of weed, unreal experience this album "Illadelph Halflife" is very special, great listen from start to finish

  • This song is the fuckin shit!!!

  • Black Thought is too nice.

  • my fav track on the album this shyt is ill

  • 1 person thought being lame was cool

  • @greentreez311 On person thinks that Waka Flaka Flame is the second coming of Rakim. As a matter of fact they wouldn't know who Rakim is.

  • @grandpasun Bro ,dont ever put Wacka Flacka Flame in the same sentance as Rakim, you hear me.lol

  • @damfst23 I'm sorry!! What have I done!?!? WHAT HAVE I DONE!?!?!?!?

  • 36 thousand views and not a single thumbs down? hands down one of the best hip hop tracks.

  • real hip hop is extinct.

  • I even speak to Geeks/I hope my Future is Sweet.... DAMN!!!

  • mid night full moon vibe to it

  • tripped on acid years ago and listened to this album oh my gawd its soo chill but soo sharp lyrically

  • @rennyren77 haha same here!!! mushrooms peaked at this track, that little sound in the background= visuals

  • "sanity was lost lost now i found insane"

  • one of my favorite tracks right here, malik kills it, black thought kills it even more, and the production is so damn solid and melodic on this track. one of the best albums right here

  • classic

  • no dislikes, thats what im talkin bout, clean perfection

  • Peace to the niggas w.no disguises....

    Reacting off intuition

    1

  • This is the sickest joint. Hip hop and lyricism done the way it should be done. One of my all time favorite cuts .

  • LYRICS LYRICS

  • the roots music is beyond words is like i can feel it. one of the best and fav groups of all time. see that talent right there

  • classics arent loved anymore... strange

  • simply the best music, lyrics, flow, message, every small piece of this song is put together so well, its very clear to me that people dont hear this music enough because half of the so called hip hop that is being put out now would not be in circulation

  • shhhhhhhhhhhhhh... theres no dislikes

  • @KURZxMBS there is now.

  • this is definitely their best album by far.

  • Best song on the roots best album! Bring Malik B back to the Roots!

  • The Roots will always be the real organic hip hop jazz.. just ill...

  • ...A timeless classic!!!!

  • Black Thoughts verses is one of the best verses I ever hear from him.

  • Black thoughts 1st verse on here is simply one of the most magnificent displays of lyricsm and flow.

  • @grandpasun Straight up. This whole track is just fiiiire. Cool fire that is

  • @JimiKuusipalo favorite part 0:00 - 5:13

  • i saw these guys live @jazz cafe in camden, london like 97. Knew before I went that they were taking hip hopto a next level.Yeah we make the best beats, yeah we write the tighests deepest lyrics, and now we got live musicians smashing it. What you got left to bring it on? We got everything you wanted from a track and did it better. Drop this and school them fools on what music should sound like. Raw talent, raw skills, raw/ roar. Aint an MC on the scene with a producer that comes close...

  • THE BEST HIP-HOP ALBUM EVER

  • I had always thought Malik was a pretty meh lyricist who couldn't touch BT; then I heard this song.

  • "On a lyrical Nat Turner mission/reacting off of intuition/continuously alert, no intermission/if your ears hurt you shouldn't listen/that means you artificial/and my style will poison your brain tissue" .....

Gawd damn! The wordplay alone is crazy on those bars! This was the first album that I got that wasn't a cassette, still in good condition, still got the CD jewel case, I remember going to Nobody Beats The Wiz on Fordham Rd in the BX in '96 to get this album.

  • Peeps who love this music are philosofers. The lyrics are so deep. You must be a philosofer for this.

  • You should try this dope track : No greater protector by the Roots.

  • When I drop jewels niggas they wear them like a bangel check it out

Malik b is off the chain, i wish The Roots can have a show in South Africa.

  • You know it used to bother me how this doesn't get the plays it deserves, while everyone views the top billboard songs. That's what I used to think, but not anymore. There are too many idiots in the world who don't deserve to know about this music, let alone play it. This is music for the ninjas who would creep up on those fools and slit their throats before they knew they were being targeted.

  • @twinz2008

never looked at it that way but that's a great point and i agree completely

  • "fa tal lyric al sci ence now!"

    DAMN.

  • This is that waiting at the bus stop on a winter day music,

  • @FranklinCastle

    feel the same

  • my favorite hip hop song

  • Real artists are so slept on.

  • I honestly have to say that this is my favorite overall song EVER!!!...Black Thought's lyricism and flow are just rediculous...and on a side note, my top 5 LYRICISTS of all time in no particular order are

    Black Thought

    Malik B.

    Nas

    Mos Def

    Talib Kweli

......and im from Los Angeles so no coast bias.

  • this and tribe called quest, maybe a little nas... best

  • This song rocks, Black Thought absolutely owns this songs! I love conscious hip hop

  • One of the greatest Roots songs ever, from the greatest Roots album ever, which then again is one of the greatest hip hop albums ever!

  • @anatolianINVASION.. highly agreed !

  • 47 people that apprieciate good music (Black Thought Voice)

  • The 'ROOTS' = light years ahead of MCs nowadays...and this track is like 14+ yrs. old.

  • One of the best hip hop songs ever! And my opinion is that real hip hop the best genre is, so one of the best songs ever.

  • Comment removed

  • had this song stuck in my head all week of court... FUCK THE POLICE >_< time to vocalize :D

  • Top ten album ever for me. I'm pretty sure this was the album that made me really start believing this was one of the best groups in hip-hop. And Thought absolutely slaughters every song. Every one.

  • I'm glad these cats never sold out. They could've, but they didn't, I respect that.

  • @Xkilluminati76 Eminem sold out though :[

I still love The Roots more than Eminem though

  • that backround sounds like sum off mario like a boo or yoshi

  • real talk I'm trying not to let this water fall down my face ...this fine moment of hip-hop well never be again but thanks for posting this" hair balls "...lol.....we gotta keep hip-hop alive.

  • this proves how black thought should be in your top five

  • Black Thought and Malik B. in their finest lyrical form.

  • thought is in that 15 dopest emcees.

  • Thought is nice.

  • When Im high, I turn off everything dim the lights and put illedelph halflife on repeat.

  • Seriously blows me away...

    Too clever!

Stands in my top 10 tracks of all time.

  • BT's 1st verse is one of the illest ever!

my shackle of thought tackle you while I'm educating

your dome's resonating from inhalation of darkness

as I spark the smart shit from what you waiting

  • Not me --This is an answer i received pertaining to this song-lol

What can I say... except there is nothing good to say about it. It is not particularly creative... a basic pulse beat and some guy rhyming over the top. Heard one of these things... you've heard them all. There is no melody, just a constant bass rhythm and close to unintelligible vocals. It barely qualifies as music.

There is no skill putting this formulaic stuff together.

The lyrics - well most of it is meaningless claptrap.

  • @electronicchronic I never really understood why people comment on things they don't like. Honestly, what's the point?

  • @Sicklysamantha Man that was not me saying that, it was an answer i received from yahoo answers About this song. But i guess we got to respect ever ones music even the skreeemo XD

  • @Sicklysamantha No no I understood that it wasn't you, I was just saying why do people do that?

  • @electronicchronic People are walking blind man, the guy just described most of the elements of modern day 'shit hop' or shit pop, whatever it has mutated to, and he doesnt even know it...

  • The roots are untouchable....this is possibly the nastiest display of lyrical prowess imaginable. The 90's was hands down the best era of hip hop. There will never be an equal.

  • man this is one of the hardest instrumentals litterally instrumental cause their all instrumentalist, and raps that has ever been recorded. the beat though is what i tihnk kills the whole track as one, its so heavy dark but still real. big ups to Roots Crew

  • Black Thought's 2nd verse on this track is one of the best verses in hip hop. period.

  • @OmegaOfTrackTactix yo forreal i wish more people recognized this...

  • Man I love this song and I agree that third verse is sick. This is one of my favorite albums

  • This is definately going on my next mix cd. Amazing lyrics/delivery, anyone wanna throw some more tunes i can check out, of the like???

  • @rydrin Common - I used to love H.E.R. listen to each word bro, and when you hear the final punchline, rewind and play it again, and again, and again, and again, and...

  • @madskilladil Wicked tune! cheer's bro.

  • @rydrin your welcome bro. hey i just checked out that writers block track on your page... and immediately added it to my playlist on spotify. so thank you too!

  • At 3:08 i got weak in the knees.. Freshest Verse EVER!

  • that second verse by thought was fuckin sex for the ear. you dont even have to know english to enjoy that shit, HE IS A TRUE POET

  • vi-tal lyrical science now!!!

  • Aah most of the time music is background shit. But for this one I take 5 minutes just to sit back and listen. Great lyrics amazing delivery.

  • THE shit

  • amazing

  • Pump this in your car ! My fav on the album

  • this album blew my mind when i first got it, under recognized maybe but fuck it, keep it that way!

only a few ppl deserve to hear music like this!

  • definatly agreed. only true rap lovaz should hear this

  • 100 fucking percent agree...FACT

  • One of my favs from The Roots

  • All time favorite roots song! This is the ONLY Hip Hop group i listen to. They been keepin it real for years and years. and it sounds so nice

  • freakin amazing love the roots this album they were really good lyrically too

  • i just commented to make more comments..lol..

i had this on cassette...so you already know...

  • This song is beyond incredible. Malik and Riq show why Philly has some of the illest niggas to be pushed into existence. 2nd verse is poetry in motion!!! "vit-al lyric-al science"

  • sick lyrics

  • fuck yesi miss music like this!!!!!!!!!!....fuck ur auto tone! commercial rap gets the gun clappppp

  • Hahaha. Nice Smif-N-Wessun reference. That's a good dig.

  • smh, todays music is for dumbasseswho dont care about there community and thereselves. its destructive

  • sickest album. sickest song. can't be touched. where has hip hop gone???

  • @seez1ne down the drain , now it moves slowly forward , underground...

  • @seez1ne It has a special place within our hearts and ears. Thats where hip-hop still is.

  • lol less than 500 views? are you serious?

this is one of the greatest albums in the history of hiphop and this is my fav songs

  • Why the best of traks have the least hits. This is one of the best messages in hiphop. Cant wait to see The Roots again. .... Organix to Rising Down.

  • yes!!!!

  • This time will never exist in hip-hop again!

  • @tbelle77 I could've said it better, they'll never music again like between 92 and 96!
