  • Nice video. Good overview of the different units.

  • Venus520 uses same current and sensitivity as SiRF III (75mA). The new SiRF IIILT and MTK32 use half has much current (35mA)thus instead of getting 11 hours you get 23 hours. No. of channels is irrelevant as the max satellites you will see at any given time is 10; Venus520 may say it has 44 channels but in fact it has memory cells to store data rather than true parallel channels (hype). Current usage, tracking and sensitivity are the prime features to a GPS performance not number of channels.

  • Yeah i realised that anything over 12 channels was useless. I got a Globalstat 55 channel one, it's an MTK chip with 3m CEP accuracy, 5hz update rate (also unecessary i've been told). 1sec hot start, 30 warm, 36 cold.

    Got TomTom software.

  • Oops, i mean Globaltop, not Globalstat.

  • You have to be careful with 5Hz GPS as a lot of software can't utilise the 5Hz (normal is 1Hz) and or it confuses the Software and cause errors.

  • Do you know what software has errors when used with a 5hz receiver?

Tomtom 6 is working fine with it (S60 v3 mobile).

  • No I don't, it was mentioned to me by someone who had experience with such issues a year or so back. It may be OziExplorer or similar.

  • Where does the Venus520 engined GPS compare to SIRF3 and Mtek?

Also does the engine only affect battery life, nothing to do with connection to sattelites, startup times, accuracy?

  • Thanks mate , Thanks mate that was very usefull to me. keep it up.

    AMIR.
