Both companies suck. Sony sucks because they made a really crappy battery and apple sucks because they went for a cheap battery and tell people to pay good money for the whole computer.

Sony is a top tier OEM, but they slipped up in the manufacturing process of these batteries.

The battery cells would become contaminated by small metal shavings, possibly from the manufacturing equipment, during the cell buildup.

Eventually, the shavings would pierce through the cell barriers, causing an internal short circuit that results in the cell overheating.

This triggers a runaway thermal event that causes the other cells to overheat and explode exponentially.

But, since this, Sony has cleaned up their act. This also allowed other manufacturers of Li-Ion cells to learn from the mistakes and apply the necessary fixes to their processes if any potential problems were found.

Exploding laptop batteries is largely old news.

Umm, I think you mean PC user, Windows is software not hardware, which is the case. Also I am aware that most PC companies made also battery recall programs (Dell started them). Oh btw, I have nothing against the Mac, I am just against the Sony exploding batteries.
