  • They used this chants in the game king of fighters 97

  • I went to this in Bali recently. Absolutely mesmerizing.

  • i wonder...did they have an audition on which should make the specific sounds?

  • Those flashes from the cameras have got to be annoying to the dancers.

  • i miss bali :((((

  • Simply way is any practice from an outside religious tradition not in line with our religious beleafs labeled a "cult" we have no underlying cultural understanding of such practice yet its a sacred part of there life , its time we open our eyes to the fact there are 7 billion people on this earth and they all see the world through diffrent eyes .

  • @123allrock i agree with you on that, but there are subcultures that really are crazy cults, like those who claims vampire perhaps, because of some hip novels. goths although they're not following or understand the gothic age at all, group suicidal etc. but the things that stills amazes me, is that, i've seen pretty crazy shit in bali, like animal sacrifices, ridiculous myths and rules (i admit i'm balinese) but they turn out to be true and positive. is there like a biased between beliefs?

  • I want to see this in person.

  • Wonderful Indonesia, proud to be an Indonesian. :D

  • This is really beautiful. However, I dare not imagine if Bali become a islamic place~ :(

  • @DreamBrutal I don't deny there are some Islamic fundamentalists in Indonesia who keep trying to rule the country in strict Islamic adherence. Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world but mind you, never once Islamic parties ever win the election there. Not all Balinese are Hindu, they are partially Muslims and Christians. No matter what their religion is, they stil preserve the tradition and proud of it. You don't understand the Indonesians :)

  • @DreamBrutal I am a Javanese muslim from Indonesia. Our forefathers were Hindu hundred years back. My grandfather and people in his village still perform Pongal ritual in his rice field during the harvest time. Pongal is Hindu tradition. Hence, we preserve the tradition not by seeing it in a religion view. But we have to preserve the tradition as it is a pity to let it perished by the modernization. The past makes who we are now :)

  • this dance is telling about the RAMAYANA story

  • It's a pity that i've never appreciate Bali's culture before. Until now, almost all of my friends know Bali but doesn't Indonesia :(

  • Can anyone explain exactly what this particular ceremony is about and what they're portraying through the dance?

  • its not ignorant, its a fact its demonic does it look normal to you?

  • @makdeonijatom you sir need to discover the meaning of the word fact.

    and just what is normal?

    asshole

  • looks demonic, dont know why anyone would want to go to bali after that.

  • @makdeonijatom what an ignorant retarded comment. Fuck off to Benidorm you useless waste of life.

  • ohhh monkey boy. Hey monkey boy

  • Love It~ Hey Monkey Boy!

  • cool!

  • GOD island of Bali, nice

  • They're like Avatars...

    How fantastic are they....

  • the kecak in this form was invented for tourists in the 1920s

  • Maybe, or more like the tempting of the menfolk or reminding them who is boss?

Back in the day the world was a matriarchal society and stuff like this brings it out

  • back in the day? Still is.

  • Jai Sri Ram!

  • in 1:48 it was ram and sita!

  • muthushiv:

like in 1:48 the charachters there are sita and rama!

    jai shri ram!

  • Where is Bali?

  • Indonesia

  • @phantomoftheopera13

    google it

  • The chanters are on shrooms..

  • @kahunahawaii

Is that a serious statement? That's pretty intense if so.

  • @kahunahawaii do you know hawaiian & balinese share the very same ancestor & their language comes from ONE single mother language ?

  • @kahunahawaii for real?

  • @kahunahawaii I doubt it. Psychedelics affect your perception of time, making it difficult to stay in time with others. On what do you base this assertion?

  • @sustainablehuman so what is the problem..

  • @kahunahawaii No problem. You claim that the chanters are on shrooms. I am just expressing my doubt on that, as shrooms would interfere with their ability to keep in time with each other. I'm not saying it's not possible, just unlikely. How do you know they are on shrooms?

  • @kahunahawaii Kecak music is basically a vocal interpretation of traditional gamelan music, which is focused on cyclic, interlocking melodies. It's inspired by original divination rituals where people are traditionally in a trance. This is a theatrical version of the ritual since the actual rituals 1) aren't recorded and 2) don't have tourists around watching.

Also, they don't use traditional Western scales or turning, so it sounds kind of odd if you aren't used it it.

  • @kahunahawaii i think hes saying that it would be impossible for one to stay in such a tight and un-conducted rhythmic formation if you were tripping balls. Id have to agree - also ive studied monkey chant in college and I didnt get the feel that the ceremony normally involved psychedelics.

  • @sustainablehuman They make it much easier. I hope everything is clear now.

  • @sustainablehuman Psychedelics sure don't affect your sense of rhythm, at least not in a bad way.

  • @kahunahawaii

they were perfectly capable of removing our chairs afterwards..

  • Before you enter there are signs posted to put away Jewelry , glasses and hold on to purses the monkeys will take them

  • RE: cheahkoksoon So tourists be forewarned I have to pay the fruit kids RP10000.

    RP10,000 = @1.00USD

Should we call the CIA or FBI Homeland Security on the this ?

  • I wish i could return to hawaii I was so young when i went that my memories are strange, I can remember some things but I sense more and feell more of what it was like when I went, maybe in the future i'll bring some shrooms too LOL!!!

  • this isnt Hawaiian btw

  • That's because people of Oceania (Micronesians & Polynesians) originated from South East Asia (S.E.A.) according to mitochondrial DNA links, archaelogical evidence, and linguistic similarities.

  • There dutting....lol....drummers at heart.

  • I'm sorry but this made me crack up!

  • Indonesia has a mixture of Hindu, Muslim, and Animist belief systems which tend to get blended together quite a bit.

  • This is half tradition, half lets make some for the tourists. It dates back to a traditional trance inducing chant. Kecak is just something they made to show off for tourists. Still really awesome, though.

  • The monkeys lifted off my specs when I took fotos of the Indian Ocean, and scooted off. There were kids around with fruits and they went to feed the monkeys. The monkeys let go of my specs in exchange for the fruits. I have to pay the fruit kids RP10000 for their deeds. I believe this is one of the way this fruit kids make a living. So tourists be forewarned.

  • Is that really a Hindi tradition?

  • I LOVE BALI !!!

  • Bali is called the Last Paradise. Full of the most amazing forms of art , architecture, carving ,sculpture, music ,dance , story telling song , and last but not least happy people. why not take a page from their book and make your area a Paradise to keep them company.

  • hi, i'm from Malaysia. Bali looks like a cool place. im not excited about the Macaque monkeys though. one time i was in Langkawi island, Malaysia. there are Macaques there too. i was eating potato chips at a Macaque park, and one big Macaque charged at me behind my back. my sisters screamed. fortunately, i turned around just in time to avoid being mauled. it only scratched my hand. anyway, if i go to Bali, i wanna see the Topeng festival.

  • Wow that sounds pretty crazy. How big are they usually or how big was the one that charged at you? Did he want some of your potato chips or was it territorial or something? After it scratched you did it run away or did you have to try and scare it away? Sorry for all the questions man. Just interested.

  • hey man, how r ya. no problem with the questions. the macaque that attacked me was a fullgrown. it was the size of a dog. it

definitely attacked me for my chips. after it attacked me, i dropped the bag of chips and it left me alone. i dont think i could scare it away, it had fangs and claws.

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

My first-grader and I were transfixed!

  • It's all authentic and spiritual.

  • come to indonesia and see more culture of indonesia

  • The live performance of the Monkey dance like this is very exciting to watch.

There is another beautiful dance that I have seen when I was in Bali 6 years ago, but I don't remember its name :(

  • Legong

  • I think, it's called Barong Dance. Is that the one with Keris dance or trance dance?

  • This is an awesome film. The monkeys are so cute and funny. Then the sacred part as the sun goes down. I have never seen anyone dance with fire. I have never seen dancing like that.

  • Nice video with a very good quality

  • One of thousand exotic cultures from Indonesia

    Aku Cinta Indonesia

  • Wow, there must be thousands of variations in traditional culture and ceremony. Exploring Indonesia is quite a spectacular adventure. This has to be the most exotic and artistically advanced people ever on Earth.
