i STILL wish that nbc still had the saturday game of the week, the league championship series during the odd-numbered years and the world series during the even-numbered years. i also STILL wish that abc had "monday night baseball" as well.
FOX baseball stinks. Joe Schmuck and Tim McDimwit can't call a good game. They yammer on and on and can't go an inning without talking about the Yankees and how great they are. The back up game announcers are better, but not much. NBC was entertaining and much more professional.
If NBC gets the Game of the Week, they will have to lose some of their other sports, to do like Norte Dame football to grab it back. But it could still happen
Does anyone have NBC's MLB-Game of the week theme song from the 1970's and early part of 80's? That opening was outstanding and the song was very catchy.
Get rid of FOX on the Saturday Afternoon games and bring back NBC. And ABC was better than FOX too. Oh for the days of Curt Gowdy and Tony Kubek again, they were soooo classy.
Nobody watches Versus. If Versus got a deal with Major League Baseball, both companies would lose money (just like with the NHL).
And Jeanne Zelasko wasn't fired. She took a leave of absence because she was diagnosed with cancer. But I do agree that she was pretty bad with the pre-shows.
Tony Kubeck was one of the greatest "color" commentators on baseball. I watched GOTW just to listen to Tony. Smooth, intelligent, insightful.
I tell you something, give a listen to Vin Scully doing a Dodger game. This is your last chance these next 2 months. Brilliant baseball announcer. He is hanging it up at the end of the Dodger's season. Dodger fans have been blessed!!!
I'm blessed to have had Bob Uecker to listen to since the 1971 season here in Wisconsin, what a treat!
Thanks for those kind word budman but Vin is retiring after the 2010 season. As a fan of the Dodgers, Angels, & the Padres im both happy and bless to hear Vin Scully, Jerry Coleman, and Dick Engberg on TV and on the radio and also for Harry Carrey after listening to him on WGN.
Red Barber, Mel Allen, Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Bob Murphy, Chuck Thompson, Curt Gowdy, Harry Kalas...all dead. Ernie Harwell is long since retired, and dying of cancer.
Scully is the last of his breed, the sole remaining broadcaster from the days of Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Musial, etc. Not to mention the ultimate "team" announcer: 60 seasons and counting with the Dodgers.
I agree. Have been trying to find that intro music for a long time. I also would like to have the late 1970's Monday Night Baseball theme from ABC. It used to be on here but was taken off for copyright purposes. Any suggestions on where I can find either of these two themes?
Don't forget about Jeanne Zelasko. She screw up the fox pre game shows and thank god she got fire from fox. Thank god chris rose save the day for the fox pre game show. But Jeanne Zelasko pre game shows suck.
I miss NBC having baseball. It would be great if they wrestle it away from Fox in 2013, then maybe the Toronto Blue Jays will finally be on a game of he week not since the CBS years.
@QBCNetwork Only if the Jays are actually competing for a division title, that is. They won't show the Jays if they're in last place or anything like that.
@ckendall67 Even if they were on top of the AL East, Fox will find a way t snub them, just like NBC does for the Detroit Lions & Houston Texans (the only AFC & NFC team that have mmeber played on NBC since they got the NFL back in 2006).
I originally got the clip from bobcnn, who has a compliation of TV opens from 1989. I took the original 9 minute long clip, and tried to edited down to the NBC "GOTW" intro.
Thank you for almost bringing a tear to my eye. What wonderful memories of such classic moments in TV Baseball history. There is no voice like Vin Scully. Thank you, thank you THANK YOU!!!
Look how fox has destroyed baseball nbc had an awesome baseball crew!!!!! FUCK fox joe buck Tim mccarver they suck cock!!""!!!!!!!!!!!

@Fruth37 I absolutely agree. I don't know what FOX thinks is so great about Joe Buck...He'll never be a tenth of the announcer that his father was.

this is what I think it should be done
NBC or FOX- Saturday
MLB Network-Thursday and Saturday Night
ESPN- Sunday and Monday Night
I think that it should be done.

This is how the MLB TV contract should be if I WAS THE COMMISIONER!
FOX- SATURDAY
VS- SATURDAY NIGHT
NBC- SUNDAY (W/FLEX GAME AFTER AS GAME )
ESPN- SUNDAY NIGHT
NBC will do the ALL-STAR GAME & AL PLAYOFF
FOX will do the WORLD SERIES & NL PLAYOFF

She also disrepected the great Ernie Harwell at the All-Star Game in Detroit several years back.

No network televised MLB with more integrity and class than NBC in the '80s.
