  • Stock for stock that LS1 is a much better choice, in this case... it's just a perfect example of how everything comes down to how much money you have. Let's be honest, if the maro and the fox had the same amount of $ into very similar mods, the maro would win. But the stang had more $ into it. Not saying its a bad car, because it isn't. But the LS1 with the same money into would be faster, plain and simple. Btw the 302 is actually pretty inferior to the LS1... maybe you should compare a 4.6 mod.

  • @GrantEvanGriffith Look at any stock engine (stock internal) LS car with Bolton's (air intake, Intake mani, T.B., Headers, exhaust, gears, stall, tune, slicks and free mods) and you'll see it. Add a cam, valve springs and roller rockers and it will be well into the 11's

  • the advantage to the 5.0 is that you can spin more rpm on the stock bottom end/block, because of it's shorter stroke it is more stable. this allows you to use a bigger cam therefore the 14% less displacement is made up by the ability to run 14% (ish) more rpm. effectively equalizing the displacement of the two motors in the power. now with built bottoms and racing blocks the extra displacement is obviously superior, but with factory parts the potential is much closer than you may first think.

  • v10viper04 u can take a 2,500 dollar fox body and put ten grand in it and u have a bad ass car. I have a friend that pieced a fox together and but a stock 351w bottom end and bolted on sum bad ass aluminum heads, intake, carb, and cam, and gears and is in the low elevens and he paid 500 dollars for the car. he dont have anymore than 6,000 in the whole car and has wooped alot of stuff so yea i think u live in opposite world buddy i live in the real one:)

  • my dad stock 04 cobra ran a 11.99 at 112 mph with a slick now he got a 2010 GT500 just got it yesterday and we took it to the track and it ran a 12.4 on factory tires its est. to run a 11.60's on slicks because that bitch spun like hell thru 1st 2nd and 3rd

    I see fox bodies pulling 13's all day long where I live at. Alot of guys will by-pass the assessories, lower the tire pressure, and bump the timing, with 93 octane and pull 13's in foxes all day.

  • Gotche my bad... ls1's come with better heads and more horsepower. Yeah a stock ls1 will walk a stock 5.0 in the 1/4. But a stock fox coupe will get down into the low to mid 14's on street tires, i'v seen stock ls1's pull high 13's on street tires. Just a mis-understanding thats all.

  • The mustang GT has not been faster then the Camaro or Firebird for quite some time. My stock firebird(well to come clean it had a catback) ran a 12.8 and the mustang GT next to me had Gears Intake headers and a "tune" he ran a 13.2

  • Well, from 1993 until 2002, and that's if you aren't talking about Cobras. Yes, a 96 and 97 Mustang Cobra will beat a 93-97 Fbody of any kind.

  • 94-95 mustang Gt's suck period. There heavy, the computers pull timming and are a nightmare too tune. A HCI 94-95 will be lucky to hit 290hp with a really good tune and might be a high 13 second car with real sticky tires and a really good driver.

  • 96 and 97 cobras are junk and dont run faster than 14.50's, the LT1 F-bodys ran 13.80's-14.20's consistant

  • Yep, I'm a Ford man, but in 93, the Fbody went the LT1 route (along with new body), and it was the beast on the street until 96 when the 4.6 DOHC went into the Cobras. But, then came the LS1. But then came the supercharged 4.6 DOHC. But by then, the fbody was in the grave.

  • first the mustangs have never been close to GM except for the cobras with Schargers, but thats terrible to brag about ur scharged car beating a N/A car, u cant brag on that...TPInjection camaros/firebirds with 350 ran 14.30's-15.0's, then LT1 came in 93 in camaro/firebird and the trans am/Z28/SS ran between 13.80's-14.20's, then the bad dogs the LS1 from 1998-2000 LS1 .2 tenths faster than LT1's, then 01-02 LS1 got Z06 intakes and different cam and heads and ran 12.99-13.5 6spd was faster

  • No, No, No... What you forgot to mention was in that test article they bolted up drag slicks in an attempt to run 10's. Mickey Thompsons. We're talking off the showroom floor here. The Road&Track test was done with stock tires. If you' re going to leave out details like that, make sure you find an article where they bolted up slicks to the vette. Besides, if it's in a magazine, it must be true...Right? To answer your question, YES someone does know their facts.

  • Yup, 10.8s with the only mod being drag radials. They still had to launch at a very low rpm to hook up. I believe it ran low 11's right off the show room floor?. add a set of slicks and you're in the low 10s

  • i dont know the 03 cobra was rated at 420 hp but only had 390

    the 02 z06 has the ls6 with 400horsepower so it is pretty even

  • You've got it backwards. The '03-'04 Cobras were rated at 390 stock, but actually put out around 420. Ask me how I know..hehe. My car is sooo far from stock now it is difficult to remember what 400hp felt like. That's the beauty of those cars, you can make big power with just a few upgrades.

  • The camaro was far from stock ;) was setup for juice as you can hear the tight converter. He also slept on the tree :P If we had raced bottle to bottle it would've been much worse. Was just a fun race nothing for money anyway. too many people get their panties in a wad :P

  • I'm almost stock actually. I don't claim to be a racer. I like the capabilities of a 302 with Edelbrock upper and lower intake, full custom flowmaster exhaust with dumps , 355 gears, posi rear end and some nice wheels. I could use a nice paintjob though thats for sure. I'm too broke for a camera but I will probably start backing my claims up in the next month when I get off my ass and race.

  • actually an 89 IROC with the tune port ran 14.30, GM has led the way since the very start of the mustang vs camaro/trans am....

  • @TheyCallMeAlex89 Sure a 5.0L is a better engine lol. It doesn't make as much power in stock form but it is a better engine nonetheless. A STOCK 5.0 shortblock will handle over 500 hp and 7,000 rpm and a complete 5.0L engine assembly can be had for $300 or less on Craigslist. How much does a complete running LS1 engine cost? $2,000? Since you hadn't heard of a 351 we can assume you don't know a lot about this stuff. 351 is a small block Ford engine that can also be had for a few hundred bucks.

  • @GrantEvanGriffith i dont think people know what sum guys have done. like you said theres a good bit of fox coupes that are stock with a few small tweaks to help them hook and they took things off of them for weight and to help free up the motor. and have them runnin 12s! these are not gutted race cars just choice mods to help in the pursuit of 12s. i also seen stock motor aod foxbody coupe cars with prochargers runnin 10s!!! its all documented in 5.0 magizine n/a 12 sec and 10 sec blown cars

Thats why the 98 is getting a turbo setup i think. or i might supercharge it

  • people have to do heads and cams ect to get the 4.6l to 300 rwhp and thats a much better motor. the ls1 will put 300rwhp down stock. just because it can burn out does not make it fast. but even an unlucky auto ls1 w/a bad driver could run that slow. something is up with that car. like maybe its a v6 or soemthing idk. vid didnt even show what the camaro ran. im def thinking its a 347 stoker.

  • i would think a stroker and no n20 would, and i guess that a wicked cam and heads setup would too now that i think about it. i just remember racing a 5.0 w a hci setup and blew its doors off. all i had was a small cam and gears and of course supporting mods. i must have been thinking 11's when i wrote that. but i was saying it cause they make 215hp to the crank stock. they are pretty light though. either way, i do not believe that was an ls1. if it was something was wrong with it.
