I have been cranking this song out for a week now....burning out the replay button on my MP3 player,.,., Cant get enough of this song. Long LIve Rush.....
@riff5fki I think I make jokes like these just to see how long it will take for people to respond to them. And I knew about the wiring, I mean, it doesn't make it any less funny in my opinion.
@karmaofgood Well, I know, I find it funny as well, but I was just posting the main reason they were there. I'm not talking down to you at all or anything.
@riff5fki I didn't think so, that's why I didn't immediatly fly off the handle. I don't think there are a lot of people who listen to rush that are like that.
I love Rush. My favorite frickin band. Bugs me they play some of their stuff to slow live. This version of YYZ on the R30 sounds pretty good but, listen to some of the stuff on Snakes and Arrows - ugh. Can't listen or watch.
great performance, but i think their peek performance was when this song came out , back in '81, and it was from exit stage left , montreal show ! but they still rock better than most young bands, well into their 50's !! RUSH RULES !
For anyone who was lucky enough to see them frontrow ... you might have noticed that there were actually microphones attached to those dryers ..... lol ..... they used the low-frequency hum as a back bround ambience whenever needed according to how their soundman coordinated it. And it was a great gag to the audience. They also were tossing around free tee-shirts inside them for which in between sets pretty ladies in bikinis would come out scantily dressed and throw them out into the audience.
your almost right, the in ear monitor isn't the answer though.
A few years back Geddy Lee removed all of his bass amplification and switched to a DI box linked into the FOH mix for all of his bass reinforcement. Left with a void where his backline was he used dryers (not washers) with special T-Shirts they give away. Vending machines along with other odd items have housed his backline since the move to FOH bass reinforcement
for technical virtuosity and sheer brilliance? Rush are out on their own and cannot be compared to anyone.... simply the best there is/was/will be.....just my opinion
DT is a good band and one of Rush's many children. But Micheal Portnay cannot touch Neil Peart on the drums. Also what DT does with two guitars does not match up to the skills of Alex Lifeson and nobody in DT can multitask like Geddy Lee can. Also Rush can write a hit single DT can't.
u can't say 4get Led Zep,Pink floyd or whatever great sounding band's from the late 60's to early 80's, they wer all great for different reasons and that is revolutionised music! Rush are a great band but now we have band's such as Dream theater and symphony x who r better than rush technically. it's called evolution!
paperyoungpunk! You that ignorant! Bands now better then the three piece band of "actual musicians" like Rush! Give me a three piece band now with a better Bass guitar, and drummer! You are clueless! Nobody even comes close to rush!
onlyonebraincell!! you obviously havn't got a clue what your talking bowt, i listen to everything, such as The Happy monday's and they couldn't even play properly cas they were always off their faces on heroin but they made the whole of manchester bounce and that's what it's all about! get a fucking grip and don't say things like 4get Led zep and pink floyd cas they r totally different to Rush if u had a brain cell u wouldn't compare so suck my paperyoungpunkballs!!!!
paperpaker1, even if bands like Dream Theater are better than Rush technically, a point which I think is up for discussion, there is no doubting that Rush's musical archive far outshines anything these types of bands have done. Who cares how proficient you are at an instrument if your music is boring or it all sounds the same? Simply put, Rush's music is better, and I'm not alone in that assumption.
you know.. so they can change there clothes on stage and have a fresh set ready. and it s a special washer and dryer. it injects godlyns into there clothes.
What a great thing to see. I don`t like the S&A live version, not because it closed the shows of this tour but because it has an important amount of imperfecctions ( talking strictly about the recorded show at the Ahoy ). This version is much better than the one that I`ve just written about and also better than the Rush in Rio version which was, until now, my favourite.
They put on a great show, and their music is really great, they are one of the few... Really, Rush is a very talented band. And... Geddy Lee is a legend, he is one of the most musically gifted men in rock!!
ok I have never watched a bootleg of a concert (but lots of YouTubes) and maybe this is how ambitious some of them can be, but this video was shot on handheld or cell phone BUT MORE THAN ONE. I am watching and in my mind I assume it'll be one shot maybe some pans and zooms from one camera and I start to notice the cuts to different angles! wth?! Is this a co-ordinated shoot between several concert goers? Or did the creator pull OTHER shots of this particular concert that he may have come across?
I believe it was televised on Pay-Per-View and possibly released on DVD, I have Rush live in germany on DVD and they didnt play this song, so it may be another release.
true, but would an audience member's camera(s) have this good quality? also there's no way that someone in the audience could've had that angle AND that close of zoom
Those camera jobs are amateur. No question about it. And they are all different types of cameras with varying ability to capture light (some shots more saturated or brighter than others), and non of them are on stands. And the editing is not pro, either (check out 1:48 where Alex was left to walk right out of frame). No friend, this aint pro. But it's cool! Not dissing it just observing. In fact I think it's resourceful.
The reason for the "stuff" on stage is because Geddy now has his amps set up under the stage so he can "feel" the bass and not just hear it. They didn't like the idea of having empty space behind him so they set up the washing machines.
Bonus points to anyone who ever got one of the t-shirts they were throwing out of them.

Rush is absolutely incredible...All three of them are amazing musicians and they play so flawlessly...i dont kno anyone wouldnt like them...Keep it going Rush
I'm disappointed that this isn't on the R30 DVD. My friend Ben just got it and when we watched it, this wasn't there. Still, it's amazing that they've been able to span over 3 decades. Most bands are lucky to be around for 5 years.
incredible !

Neil: Why are their dryers in the back?
Geddy: Well, it does get pretty hot on stage.
Alex: He's got a point.
True reason why there is dryers in the back. lol
karmaofgood 1 year ago
@karmaofgood Also Geddy now prefers to have his bass wired directly into the sound system, so the dryers take up the space left by the amps.

OK. the dream super-reincarnation of King Crimson:
Robert Fripp (Guitar, Frippertronics)
Alex Lifeson (Guitar, backup vox)
Neil Peart (Drums, percussion)
John Wetton (Bass guitar, Vocals)
i picked John Wetton, cuz Adrian Belew doesn;t fit in King Crimson. and Greg Lake was only on a couple albums.

I'm disappointed that this isn't on the R30 DVD. My friend Ben just got it and when we watched it, this wasn't there. Still, it's amazing that they've been able to span over 3 decades. Most bands are lucky to be around for 5 years.

wow in their age they still play real good still.
Plus, this live version sounds so great, like the studio version.

Rush isnt' the best band in their class, they ARE their own class.
