burch0314, I have no problem being behind a school bus stopping for, but when bus drivers put on their yellow flashers and stop to let other buses out from a side street that pisses me off and other off. Last week I was behind a bus that was EMPTY and the driver stopped in the middle of the road three times, twice to let buses out from side streets and once to hold up traffic so a bus coming from the opposite direction could make a left turn.

Furthermore their is a large number of casualties do to dumb drivers being impatient for buses in general as well as commercial trucks. You can't take the sign off in the back,its once again bullshit driving laws for truck drivers and bus drivers.What they should really do in Illinois is put the how am I driving on every single vehicle that has more then 3 tickets for accidents and speeding.
School buses are extremely heavy and underpowered and even backing one off a curb would require a lot of effort and commitment. I'm not sure I wouldn't have done the same thing in this situation.
Why didn't they get the kids off the bus, (can't be that hard to get approval from management to de-board the kids, get a headcount and then task an officer or some other authority figure to maintain physical custody of the children for the duration of this issue).

WHOA! In the district I drive for, if we are in ANY type of collision, we are not supposed to move the bus until district authorities arrive and tell us to move it. Even if we're blocking traffic. If your school bus gets stalled on railroad tracks, you use your emergency evacuation training and bail out the emergency exits. All passengers then group in an area at least 100' away from the bus, and towards the direction of the oncoming train, so that when/if it hits the bus, they will be in the opposite direction of flying debris. School buses are extremely heavy and underpowered and even backing one off a curb would require a lot of effort and commitment. I'm not sure I wouldn't have done the same thing in this situation.
Why didn't they get the kids off the bus, (can't be that hard to get approval from management to de-board the kids, get a headcount and then task an officer or some other authority figure to maintain physical custody of the children for the duration of this issue).

To get over the curb he would have had to give it loads of rev's let it go bouncing him all over the place, in the buses in the uk we don't have seat belts in the cab so do you have them in the US? if not he might have been thrown out of his seat so he hit the post.
He said he swerved to avoid hitting a cab, if he hit the cab someone might have died yet no-one did so does this make him a bad driver?

WHOA! In the district I drive for, if we are in ANY type of collision, we are not supposed to move the bus until district authorities arrive and tell us to move it. Even if we're blocking traffic. I'm not sure why that driver backed up! He just got into even more trouble. Very fitting title for this vid!

If your school bus gets stalled on railroad tracks, you use your emergency evacuation training and bail out the emergency exits. All passengers then group in an area at least 100' away from the bus, and towards the direction of the oncoming train, so that when/if it hits the bus, they will be in the opposite direction of flying debris. Like if I'm on the tracks and somebody hits me? If somebody rearends me during my safety stop, I'm not on the tracks yet. I 'spose if somebody hit me and I was actually ON the tracks, I would hope that the radio was clear and I could get immediate assistance from Dispatch. Otherwise I'd have to react to circumstances at hand.
