  • Damn, I love this song. I'm moving to a new state is this is what I'll be listening to as I fly to my new horizon.

  • This song brings back so many good memories

  • If you guys have not yet, please go like their offical page in facebok and join their message board at yahoo for updates and up and coming projects from the fam

  • I can never tire of this song..

  • Oh yes i remember WHUR PLAYING THIS,.I STILL THINK ITS ONE OF THEY'RE VERY BEST !

  • NICE!

  • Im a 22 yr old fan of the Sylvers!!!! Their music is timeless!!!!

  • Shooting your windows out was some bull but I know they were just trying her to see what she was gonna do. So glad she stood up to their punk asses lol!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!

  • It does to me! I've heard many stories like that especially involving gang recruiting. During that time gang members would knock on your door like 'where are your sons'! If there was any resistance well you can only imagine. Single moms in the inner-city went through alot.

  • Just a thought....what the DEVIL was Shirley Sylvers talking about during the story about some "guys" who "Called and said they were gonna shoot out her win dows?" Who calls someone ahead of time and tells them they're going to do a driveby? Who were the guys? How did they get your phone number? How did they know your Address? Why did they choose your family.....AND THEN CALL TO NOTIFY YOU OF AN UPCOMING DRIVEBY? Something doesn't add up here!

  • @poetgrande08 Ignorance needs no motive. That's been proven time and time again.

  • @poetgrande08 That was a different time. Everyones phone number number was in the white pages. No caller ID back then. Those boys were trying to intimidate Ms. Shirely and she wasnt having it. You see she said they kept walking about their business when she showed that rifle lol. They were young and stupid and living in the projects trying to be tough. Thank God she got her children out of that environment. Sorry for what happened to Olympia.

  • @Nanadsyl Exactly! Some are just too cynical wow. Plus she had 9 walking talking kids in a small area...you can get info easily. People actually went outside, mingled before all this technology haha. Things don't always make sense when you live in a concrete prison like that. PLUS Unsung is known for chopping up stories to save time. So many bad things happened to them...Miss Shirley was just going down the list. Unsung just zeroed in on some of it. They needed more than an hour.

  • @RememberTheTime09 Thats correct. Girl we played outside until the lights came on and then as long as I was on my friends porch I didnt have to come in the house until I heard my momma yell for me. I completely understand those times. Even though I wasnt in the projects kids still played the same. Girl we'd see a cute boy over at the basketball court and wear his phone number out. His poor mama was sick of us. So you know Ms. Shirley was always catching all kinds of calls.

  • This never gets old. Edmund was an awesome singer!

  • Been looking for this song for soooo long but didnt know the name of it...thank you for puting this on here for us people that need good music these days :)

  • @nanadsyl i know she was but i read foster has many kids and he is a register sex offender he has a great voice dnt understand. but misdeamor is my jam.

  • @2012nadia Foster has 2. Edmund had 10.

  • @2012nadia people can be talented and unfortunately sick...

  • I finally had time to watch Unsung on my DVR. I had to press pause and look this song up. I love this song.

  • Recently discovering The Sylvers reminds me of finding a hidden overlooked Christmas present during the summertime. I'm forever grateful!!! I want to give an overdue thank you to the Sylvers!

  • They were the Jackson 5 x2. I've never heard harmonies so perfect.

  • Im Free!! So many others arent. I wish more kids grew up with this music. Share their message where you can. It may change a life as Pat was saying in Unsung. Thats what they want their music to do especially this project laying down the pop for substance.

  • OMG TELL ME WHY I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS SONG FOR 2 DAYS STRAIGHT!?! This song is HOT and it showcases their harmonies/talent like a mutha!! I'm a 29 year old die hard Jacksons/J5 fan but to me, this song proves that The Sylvers were just as good as The Jacksons--even on the same page. Too bad they didn't get the same recognition. Could you imagine if The Sylvers and The Jacksons did a collaboration together??? OMG!!! That would've been hotness in a can sold in a store near you ROFL!!

  • I too, finished viewing Unsung! Though, I am J5 fan for life(I am from Gary), I still respected the Sylvers. I just cant believe what the heck the family went through- Wow! Seem like them and the Debarges went through the same strifes and snarls of the music industry and life. I even left a comment on the Sylvers Unsung referring to the outing of Leon. I paraphrase, "I am down for outing Leon(actor) from the Five Heartbeats(movie), but Leon from the Sylvers. Not Good! Great Trax!

  • Where can we see the live version that was on Unsung. I really like this song

  • THIS IS ONLY THE "UMPTEENTH" TIME I'VE BEEN ON THIS SITE TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG....THE SONG IS SIMPLY HEAAAAVEN. BEAUTY, BEAUTY, JOY, JOY, HARMONY...BLUE SKY...BRIGHT SUN...GORGEOUS SUNRISE....BREATHTAKING DUSK...AWESOME LANDSCAPES....VISIONS OF BEAUTIFUL AFROS/BLOW-OUTS...SOULFUL SOUL...MUSIC IS A GOD-GIVEN THING...ISN'T IT EVERYONE??

  • New Edition had to be huge fans of the Sylvers in their growing up, because the Edumund's breakdown after 3:37 - 4:44 is reminiscent of NE's earlier works with Bobby Brown. So many family groups were blueprints in R&B. The Sylvers and Debarge families are R&B royalty, IMO.

  • I've got to live my liiiiiiiiiiiiiife ooooooooooooooohhh. So smooth and harmonious! Truly a great song about self discovery, coming of age or simply turning over a new leaf. Blessings to the Sylvers family. I look forward to Mrs. Sylvers book in the future.

  • i love the lyrics...this speaks to my life. I'M FREE!!

  • All of the sisters in this group are fine as hell!!!

  • This is so bad I could see Larry Levan spinning this @ the Paradise Garage. The Sylvers r truly a class act

  • finally watched unsung featuring the sylvers. their mom shirley was protective of her ten babies. they can sang especially the harmonies mind blowed but was excited to watch it fianally. love the song misdeameanor with foster. edmund and christopher will be missed.hope they can make a sylvers album again with leon's production.

  • @2012nadia Im sure she had to be protective. Wish they all could have stayed away from drugs. But Ricky and Foster are sobber now thank God.

  • I'd love to see the entire Soul Train performance which they partially included on the Unsung bio. I loved Edmund's voice, as well!

  • Real music here.. just adore the Sylvers music!

MISS THE 70'S BIG TIME! @heyroz27... thank you!

  • Edmund was something else vocally. R.I.P.

  • Those harmonies are so Euphoric to my ears :)

  • --- I'm only 19... Dude I am in love with this song... Their harmony is on point. Skrew all this ish we listen too today...

  • R.I.P Edmumn Sylvers I call him the voice.

  • You was right this is a soul heaven song.

  • This is epic!!!

  • #45 R&B. Written by Leon and Ricky.

  • Just watched the unsung episode on the tvone website and i was like wow. Their manager should be ashamed for taking advantage of the family. Makes me wonder if some of the artists now have shady managers like that.

  • @shynymoon It should have been more on the mom to watch out for that at the end of the day since she was somewhat their momager (mom & manager). I am more of a Jacksons fan than Sylvers (I am an 80's child) and I was always curious on why they never was on that same popular level longevity wise as Debarge and The Jacksons (again I am an 80's child & those two family groups are from my era). Too bad the Sylver sibs besides Leon didn't really do much writing & prodcing.

  • @Ediva75 James and Edmund have writing and production credits as well. Angie, Charmaine and Patricia have writing credits too.

  • Luv it so positive

  • The message in this song is so powerful. The music is soothing. I listen to it each morning. Very inspirational!!

  • My Favorite song by The Sylvers

  • Such perfect harmonies!

  • Tell me these catz don't sound the Jackson 5? Or What.

  • I only heard this song a few times as a child. For the longest I thought this was done by The Jacksons & was mad that I couldn't find this on any of their albums.

I just heard this on last week's episode of "Unsung." I'm gonna buy this cut ASAP! Thanks for posting this.

  • A lot of songs are considered soul records. But only few are what I call soul heavens. This amazing song is one of them!

  • This song is AMAAAZZING! The groove on this is so undeniable.

  • ahhh yes..this is it!!!

  • Love it

  • not to compare them to the Jacksons...but i hear "show you the way to go" similarities...

I love this song thou and respect the sylvers!

  • man i wish i could create a time machine , and back to the 70's and 80's , bet ya'll 70 and 80 babies had fun back then

  • @MrJoekidd89 yes we did have fun! Lot's of it!

  • Had never heard of them b4 watchin Unsung, they had sum nice soundin songs... But i dnt understand y sumone needs to come on a sylvers vid to discuss how much u disliked the jackson 5 and michael jackson.

  • @greasy2007 I totally agree with u . Their talent speaks 4 itself

  • my favorite song by the sylvers

  • Saw Unsung last Monday and I 'm surprised the Sylvers sang that song on Soul Train. Hope someone find that clip soon.

  • Man I love this song!!! I wish I could meet them I swear they look like cousins I have... Except there sylvers and I'm sylver lol

  • ...I could just listen to this over and over again...thank you so much for this post. any chance of getting this song live from their Soul Train performance?

  • the sylvers are my favorite group

  • @prettygirl95100 No ma'am I was a Sylvers fanatic LOL! I was listening to their rendition of Mahogany, Hoochie Coochie Dancin etc...I was never into the Jackson's at all LOL...The only time I liked Michael Jackson was when Whitney Houston performed Wanna Be Startin Something on their 30th Anniversary show. Now I like 4 songs by Mike. The Sylvers were the absolute best, choreography, harmony was the bomb dot com LOL

  • thanks!!!

  • thanks!!!

  • The Sylvers were BETTER after the "POP" era of "Boogie Fever"(Oh so popcorn!) with New Horizon and Especially "Forever Yours" LP. You got a lot of Play in the Chicago/Rockford Illinois Area. Everybody I played "Forever Yours" to off my "Boom Box" loved it. One of the TRULY underrated Love Ballard's of the 70's.

  • @prettygirl95100 Not true at all...It comes down to marketing and music style. I was still a Sylvers fan when MJ hit with off the wall. In fact I didn't like any songs on the off the wall LP...LOL

  • I wonder if anyone out there have the soul train performance of this song. That would great to see.

  • kind of sounds like "Sucka Ni*&a" by Tribe sampled, but I don't believe they did..

  • @tumeka1979

This was sampled by ATCQ, but it was off their Love Movement album

  • @chetreid77 I thought so!! LOL! Thanks!

  • Love this!

  • I'm like a lot of people here....I have a renewed interest and appreciation of this really talented and beautiful group. They seem so nice and they had the moves to back up their wonderful talent. Too bad that low-life and greedy manager came in an undermined Leon. I don't blame Leon, who can tell you you cannot write songs for the group you started? He went on to Shalimar, the Whispers and others. That proves they needed him but more they were FAMILY. Lesson learned!

  • @boomerang905 amen to that!

  • @juniorpong1 Glad I was hanging around and found your comment. That's the first thing a low-life manager will try to do....break up a family. They just didn't have enough people with the right experience to watch their backs. I look at their singing and those wonderful moves and realize how beautiful they were and think 'we just never, ever know'. Thanks for the comment. Peace.

  • I had forgotten about this jam until I saw UnSung, and it all came back. What a good song from a talented family.

  • DELICIOUS!

  • Great still

  • I adore this group!

  • I adore this song! What a wonderful example of soul, love and youth at it's best!

  • I've been listening to this song so much since yesterday. Love it! I'm glad for Leon stickin with his guns and making history @ Solar records. CLASSIC SONG!

  • Classic...

  • I really like this song. I LOVE YOU SYLVERS!!!!!!

    I LOVE YOU OLYMPIA!!!!!!!

  • Grown folks music right here!

  • Awsome music and vocal arrangements, what a fantastic family.

  • This family was endowed with tremendous talent ability. It can be so unfair how talent never gets its full honor due to the politics of marketing and promotion!!! God BLESS this family through all that they've been through and God still sees fit for them-INDEED!

  • I forgot all about this song, and I have the album! lol

  • The story of the Sylvers is proof that no matter wear you come from, with talent, hard work and dedication you can go anywhere! In their neighborhood, your life was at risk doing something as simple as walking down the street. But with stubborn faith and aspirations of greatness, they all met their "new horizons" in Hollywood. But they also teach us that if we follow bad advice and listen to people who don't care about us over our own family, we may end up right where we started.

  • Their familial harmony sounded gorgeous!

  • Watching Unsung on TVOne and I must say as tragic a story as it may be, these cats were awesome.

  • Typo...My bad they were before my time!

  • They were my time, 80's baby! But I know good music when I hear it! I should have been born in the 70's though great music and time!

  • This is awesome!!!! I love this song. I really brings me back. Good music.

  • What a beautiful talented family. I knew them from "misdemeanor," did not realize they sang "Boogie Fever" I want to track down some of their songs now. Amazing story. 10 kids???? Wow....

  • Wow Unsung interview was EXPLOSIVE, I never knew what Olympia was going through. I had no clue Ricky & Foster were in prison for parole violations. I am glad they're getting it together. But I must say they sound good still. Angie was always my favorite. I didn't expect so much weight gain tho LOL, but I was glad to see them, and they all looked good. I must say I had the whole Leon situation mixed up, the group actually voted him out and got screwed in the end over a record contract SMDH

  • I just saw this UNSUNG episode..just minutes ago...this family's talent is THE BOMB...oh my goodness...truly a God given talent, to be sure. Leon Silvers' got the midas touch in writing, production, etc. Just my two cents. I'm a proud 70's child, and this era bought with it harmonies, and melodies such as this family with some seriousness ya'll. This song is BEAUTIFUL...thank you for this post. Peace!!

  • wonderful always love this group!!

  • Wow!! Haven't heard this in years. Thanks!

  • great great song

    thanx a million

  • just finished cooking dinner, and this song was stuck in my head, just decided to come here to see if i could find it...........GREAT THEME SONG!!!!!

  • AWESOME SONG!

  • Sometimes you think you are alone in the things we do and see and hear, but when I typed in New Horizons/Sylvers and it came up with these comments..I tell you it is amazing how many of us think alike and love the same things...this was an underplayed song but I freakin' loved it...thank you Youtube and heyroz27

  • I,ve been down that long lost and lonely road.....now I am back to tell all that in order to move on in this world .... one must reach there new horizon. I did that and Now I am free. Love ya sylvers.........

  • This has been one of my "go-to" inspirational songs from the time it was released!

  • Happy,happy,happy

  • tribe call quest hot 4 you

  • Yeah we thought they were going to be the new J5, good group though nice music.

  • This song reminds of flight into a beautiful blue sky

  • This was one of my favorite albums growing up.....can't find it on CD anywhere.....:-(

  • As a pre-teen I must've sang this song 100 times, yet I didn't fully catch the meaning of it until I was a few years older. The Sylvers did many beautiful, thought-provoking songs. I miss them.

  • im suprised leon didn't work with the jacksons....i know jermaine and leon did a song for switch....that would of been interesting

  • This one song back in the day, had given me hope to move on!

  • This song is so lovely!A very underrated group! RIP Edmund!

  • the sylvers are my cousins

  • Can't believe just how beautiful this song gets each and every time I hear it; if I could wake up to this song each morning I would. So inspirational.

  • great song to start off 20X!

  • i love their sound a little more than J5....sorry J5, i luv u too of course, but their harmonies were TiGHTTTTTT!!!! Both groups are Amazing, but the Sylvers deserved WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more recognition than they got. very talented and blessed family of musicians, singers, dancers producers, writers, etc!

  • I relaly love this group...i hear a new song from them everyday....well not new to some of u guys but for me...i'm a 80's baby (1988) so this is so great that there was another talented family back in the day...it's sad that i never heard of them...the only reason y i know of them now was when the jacksons was talking about them....tisk tisk tisk

  • @jayamaw

    i meant really....whoah...someone cant spell.....

  • tribe called quest off the love movement

  • My favorite song by them. Thanks for posting.

  • Mine too!

  • beautiful song! how i feel today.

  • R.I.P Edmund. They are one of the most underrated artists ever!

  • I grew up with the Jackson's and the Silvers were right there with this selection and we loved it thanks for uploading this. memories all over again "Nice"

  • Great song, great album. I have this LP but it should be on CD. This album first to be written and produced by the Sylvers with Leon at the helm. So the seeds of the SOLAR sound can be found in this album and you can hear it. After this Leon began producing Shalamar, the Whispers, Carrie Lucas and formed Dynasty. So this album is a historic document!

  • @DarrylM65 eventhough it was never played that much on the radio growing up i still remember the melody on hook after 30 years..that's the impression it left on me..i think i only heard this song on soul train

  • LURVE this lp so much...can you believe Capitol didn't want to do much with it?

Hey Roz...my sis...can you post Bottomline from Bizarre...PLEASE?

  • i almost forgot, RIP Edmond

  • i still love this song

  • One of them should seriously write a book. Not too much is known about them. As we all know The Jacksons were the top family Soul group of the 70's and they got most of the media attention. BUT it seems The Sylvers were allowed to showcase their talent and ideas when the Jacksons had to wait until they signed with CBS.

  • I have not heard this in 30 yrs,Thank you !!!!!

  • I resembled Olympia! I loved the Sylvers! Edmond died of lung cancer. Edmund RIP!

  • Classic; timeless; ethereal; uplifting. The same Gamble and Huff positivity vibe as the Jacksons at that time. Yes, they need to be acknowledged as the class act that they were. Go Foster!, RIP Edmund.Thanks.

  • Edmund sung lead on this one.

  • who is singing lead on this song??

  • you know i didnt know the lead singer Edmond had passed. Does anybody have any info on the rest of the family?

  • it was article about them in Jet Magazine in Dec. 07..

  • there really needs to be a sylvers reunion

  • It was amazing when they came on Soul Train and sang this!! Mama just brought the album for my birthday from the PX at Cherry Point MCAS! The Sylvers were so underrated. This was their best!

  • I remember being in lone with Olympia Sylvers, not that she is on this album, but my mind just went back there. I always liked this too. A lot of different textures.

  • Hey Kpitt1204, I must agree with you Olympia was a true "Goddess". She was "Fine as frog hair"! I also concur with you, this was The Sylvers @ their best. Long live the '70

's.Great times & great music. Sincerely

    Col. S.A. Chase,USA(Ret.) Sincerely

  • This is a good Belly Dance Song!!!!!!

  • Good album.

  • Thanx so much for posting this song. I've been waiting so long for this!!!.This is maybe the most overlooked of all of The Sylvers songs. Thanx again!!!!

    Colonel Santo A. Chase,USA(Ret.)

    A greatful "Old Soldier"

  • You're right, thanks Colonel :)
