The problem with multiple ink cartridges is if they are all empty but you only need black ink you have to replace them all you cannot just go and get a black ink cartridge even though what you are printing has no color and color is not needed.

Can this printer do that? I also want to use it to scan and make prints of my smaller paintings and drawings. Do you think the painting copies would come out okay?
I just bought one from Best Buy for $200.00 I also got a HotZone360 CISS ink tank system for $49.00 I can print for about 1 cent a page now. And yes, it does duplex (2-sided).

@iBellix Hi,can you tell me whether or not this printer continues to function if one of the ink runs outand if it can continues to print as well. By that i mean some printers tend not to allow you to scan or do anything at all when one of the inks run out. Also another problem is that if one of the colors run out,it isnt possible to print black and white. So does the Artisan 835 have these issues? Thanks
@mmelviinn you're right,but that's very ridiculous. these companies are robbing us,consumers. a printer should work without or without ink,especially the parts that don't need ink.
@fireserpent26 actually, pretty much all of epson printers won't function (except for scanning using epsonscan) if one ink runs out, you really have to reload them.

@digitalbees gap lines? just do nozzle check under setup >> maintenance >> nozzle check
it will print out a small multi-colored box pattern, then run head cleaning, then another nozzle check and compare it to the previous one, (check for improvements of course). You can do head cleaning for only up to 3/4 times every 24hours or else the unit will overheat.
Excellent review! Epson has a Workforce 635 out on its way so I'll be reviewing that very soon. The printers look somewhat similar on paper but you really highlighted the best features. Keep up the great content!

I noticed the "lines" me mentioned as well.. But, after my second round of inks those lines have not been visible. I think this printer is awesome.

Do the gap lines come out on every 8.5x11 photo print? Were you able to get any printed without the gap lines?
