The only thing I would recommend is the double high-hat on the second theme is a signature part of the song. I wish it was still there, but thats just me!
the amp wasn't mine, but I'm pretty sure it was a Roland Jazz Chorus. I just used the gain on the amp, no pedals. And indeed, it is the 60's reverse strat.
this was a good cover. real tight and the tone was nice. reminded me of the john mayer trio cover. Why was the drummer doing rim knocks? the meters didn't do that did they?
any input from your drummer? im fourteen (sorrykindabragging) and im learning this song. it looks really fucked up looking at it from a book, so i think i'm just gonna attempt to learn it by ear. any input?
sure you should be able to read music, but if you can't feel it you won't go anywhere with your playing :). the easiest way to learn this beat is to listen, listen, and again listen to the original song. there are so many ways you can play it, there's no sense to write it down. feel it first! good luck :)
well they never did no rim knocks! you just gotta play a funky two measure beat for the da-da-da-daaa-dum du-du- -du-da thingy and another for the da da-da da-da da da da da-da da-da dum dum.
hey guys real nice. very funky. how did you record it? just with a camera or mics and stuff. what equipment do you use? i dunno if people have already asked but how do you play this cause all the tabs i've seen are imperfect
it isn´t very complicated but in a few parts the intricacies aren´t very easy....how long do u practice a day? and where are you from? ...sorry for the many questions^^
i dont really keep track of how long i practice, but now that i think about it, i play a lot! at least a few hours every day. i dont really conciously practice though, i just play. i'm from st. louis, MO, but i'm living in New Orleans
i´m 18 since 3 weeks and i can play it like u....that´s why i love yours ;-)
what kind of songs do you play in your band? do u like clapton? how long do u play guitar and how long do you practise a day?....if your interested look John Mayer Intro to City Love of Crossroads guitar festival...it´s nice to play...i think you are able to play it....greetings
i'll turn 18 in about a month. we did a lot of funk songs as well as blues. yeah, i dig clapton, he's pretty good, but i like hendrix and john mayer more personally. i love that jam at the beginning of city love, its dope. i never really felt the need to learn it though, i'd rather just jam on my own thing than learn it.
hey.....sounds good...on youtube...so so so so many people show simply shit but yours is good. i like it :) how old are u (guitar player) i´m from germany and i love John mayer´s cover
cracking version. Just started the bass myself last year and this is one of the songs I'd LOVE to do. We're working on it. Watch our space :-)) Nice, tight groove you got going there, nicely laid back in the spirit of the original. We'll get there one day..
I've watched this again and I really like it! I've seen other youtubers try this song. A lot of them get the rhythm all wrong. You guys did GREAT. The guitarist is fantastic and bass keeps it goin'. Can't get enuf, of that funky stuff!
Awesome tone man! I know it's a long time ago, but is there any chance that you might remember you amp settings?

A Gretsch Catalina Maple drumset, am I right ?
You need some more funky groove man. Learn how to add some hi hat fills for example!

Minioggo123 3 years ago 2
this is a good start. Remember though, THE DRUMMER AND BASSIST NEED TO FORM A TIGHTER BOND ON GROOVE CLASSICS LIKE THIS
pullom19 3 years ago 4
yeah, its gotta be behind the beat for dat funky pocket. No speeding up either! They're ok though.

Funky, nice version of the Meter's classic. Whats your setup? Amp, effects, and is that 60's reverse strat?

i dont think brian is playing the actual drum part from the song, we were just kinda jammin on it. sorry!

You gotta feel it. The hell with sheet music.
givemeaccesstothis 4 years ago
no shit access. but i also want to learn the exact beat because if a drummer can't read music then its really hard to advance
