I think people are over-exaggerating a lot on these adverts. When I was a kid, my parents were very honest on the fact that if I didn't cross the road where it wasn't safe, that I could die. Why sugar coat the fact that roads are dangerous?

"ooh, I'm an adult and it freaked me out! It'll scare children that they would never cross the road!!!!" It won't. It'll show them what could happen happen if they don't have road safety, and will hopefully scare them into crossing the road safely.

I hate to say, but these adverts are good. If the kids get scared then they won't get hit by a car. Or just bring back the hedgehogs that have no impact what so ever.

why would you advertise this, when the highway code legally says, "if you cannot see round a curve slow down" and this is a prospect of the week

1:- slow down when you cant see round a curve

2:- always be prepared for the unexpected

Why was the driver of the car travelling at a speed that did not allow them to stop within the distance they could see that it was safe for them to travel?

Why don't car drivers bother to consider that children (like The Boy Who Didn't Look For a Safe Place To Cross) may be innocently enjoying life around the corner that they cannot see around?

Driving into the "unknown" is not acceptable - but the DfT tell us it is - and spend our money in videos like this to reinforce their view.

Is it really a good idea to take a corner at a speed that won't allow you to stop in time for something unexpected? There could be a horse and rider, cyclists, a broken-down vehicle, debris.... Perhaps the DfT should actually make roads safer for vulnerable road users, rathering than scaring them with stories about how dangerous they currently are. How about a video on driving defensively, for example?
