  • dont listen to dramaqueens m8...i think the tutorial is great. people should rly try to use their brains and understand they can play around alot with the iwarp and make smoke. The video is awesome since it shows the basics in creating smoke in a fast way.

  • hm... mine won't do it... Annoying.

  • thanks

  • I don't think it really looks like smoke, but I know I can use this for other things in my future animations. Thanks!

  • I think its a cool SMOKE effect....it works you just gotta be careful how you warp it....I messed with this a little and came out with results that I like....good job.

  • really helped ty

  • thanks.

  • smoke wouldnt look good for just one frame, even if you extend it but it should move

  • Would be better w/o blur and some more, close together, smaller lines ;)

  • very simple ty

  • This is very helpful, thank you.

  • thanks!!

  • dude freakin thank u soooooo much for using the iWarp feature. this is the first time ive seen it used it a tutorial so im barely discovering it and i love it! its a whole lot easier than trying to create a flame, which takes forever!

  • this was great for me. TY!

  • Silly question, but what is wrong with just using a smoke brush with a gradient white colour?.

  • This technique is much more detailed then my one.

  • This was a big help! Thanks

  • not really like smoke but the best i've seen yet

  • 420 for the width. nice.

  • thanks =D

  • Nice video, but to poor quality.

  • Poor quality?o.O

  • Its all about that Photoshop

  • I improved on your technique

I do pretty much what you did

but after I've gotten the design I want

I run a Gaussian blur on it around 15

    duplicate the lay

    Noise>Pick

    seed - 50-70

    Repeat-30

    on the duplicated layer

    reduce opacity on duplicated layer

  • Great tutorial. Thanks! :D

  • Your seem good , Im subscribing

  • nice

  • that isnt smoke

  • Maybe not smoke in the strictest sense, no. But not too terrible I think. However, if you are aware of a better method in which to create smoke, I would be pleased to hear it. I'm always happy to learn new tricks!

  • It like smoke a lil bit, okay.

You did great , i cant.

  • @GimpTutorials Good tutorial, suscribed.

  • You can just use the smudge tool for that.

  • can you make more TUT.

  • update gimp

  • Why do people keep thinking this is photoshop, ITS GIMP, not photoshop.

  • Why not? Is it illegal or something? -.-

  • no, but stupide

  • everyone knows what you mean. so whats the point.

  • Thanks, this helps a lot.

  • Thanks for the tutorial! You're a legend

  • nice tut dude. will help anyone whos new to it. a bonus to this as well is that its really simple

  • Hello, just thought I'd mention that you can draw straight lines by holding Shift after you have painted a start-point. Chances are you already know this by now but you never know

  • thanks im new 2 gimp and this helps

  • ... thats easy to do

  • WOW! This is amazing! Lol, I did it the same time you were doing it and did the same stuff and mine looked, of course, a little different than yours, but it looked like smoke!

I'll definitely be checking out more of your tuts. Thanks!!!!

  • NICE TUTORIAL DUDE, KEEP IT UP. (im gonna try right now :D)

  • yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! I am all excited now. I originaly downloaded gimp to make names for my friends background pics on their blogs. But have become bored with the same ol same ol and have been toying around with gimp even more. I have made a few pics lately. But nothing really great. I have always wanted to know how to make smoke. I have this great background with purple water on it and I wanted to know how to make smoke come off of it. Now I know..ty ty ty Kimmie

  • Great tutorial are you going to keep em' coming? Lol love the rush hour in the background..

  • Yes, I am going to have more tutorials up soon :)

I've been very busy with work, but hopefully I can carve out some time to make one.

  • I wonder what clued me off on the fact you were going to make more :P

  • I keep trying to add more, but school, work, breakdance, and the metal band I'm in keep me quite busy, that and the fact that I have since switched over to Linux and I have yet to find a decent screen recorder for Linux....I do hope to have a "Christmas Special" tutorial up soon! I'm working on a secret project ;)

  • after you do this (assuming you used the gray/black foreground and white background) try Layer > Colors > Invert, makes it look like white smoke against black, very cool

  • THANKS, this helps me very much!

  • cool

  • Thanks man. I would really like it if you made more of these!

  • ......

  • And that means?....

  • I think that means, "NO WORDS, GOOD WORK" lol

  • Another good one!

  • Thank you :D
