if I was in that audience, I simply would not be able to merely sit and clap my hands together. I'd be lying prostrate in a puddle of my own tears....how much incredible music and lyric and arrangement in three and a half minutes. It's just overwhelming. How can they just sit there, like it's a normal moment?
@christianfff Not sure, but it would be pretty easy to find out: separate bridge saddles for each string, a humbucker in the bridge position (might be p-90?), kind of a wide-looking fretboard and large headstock. And the color was a stock fender color, which can help you pinpoint the years it was being manufactured. Do a little history delving, and let me know what you find. I'm interested.
Not only is this a great performance, but it's well filmed (and it's definitely film, not videotape) and edited, too. The whole thing was put together by people who actually knew how to film a band performing, unlike these days, where there's lots of really twitchy editing, and cameras that zoom in and out unnecessarily.
@mydogspet spot on observation, lad. i agree on the complex rythm. I tried the tabs for this song, and its FAR harder to achieve the sound than i first thought.
Th Sonic Blue '67 Strat is beyond being a rare Strat.
Fender planned on adding binding to the Strat in late '65. Strat-specific necks were made, but used on Jazzmasters after Fender decided NOT to make the change on a Strat. You'll see a Strat neck code on the heel of some Jazzmasters. In my 30+ years of following vintage Fender guitars, Ry's '67 is only the 3rd bound Strat neck I have ever seen, and the headstock was PAINTED SONIC BLUE TO MATCH THE BODY!
@christianfff SONIC BLUE WAS A STANDARD FENDER COLOR IN THE '60'S. THE BEATLES FAMOUSLY SENT MAL EVANS OUT TO GET 2 STRATS AND CAME BACK WITH 2 BLUE ONES. cooder's guitar clearly states fender on the headstock.
The nerd in me would love to know what the seventh track is on the film (see info). I have seen six posted. Apart from the two posted by Iwebender they are Police Dog, Teardrops, Poor Man, If Walls... I wonder what the seventh could be and has it been posted? An obvious choice would be Vigilante Man.
Crunchy audio..boo hoo.

Does anyone know what guitar that is? And is it just me, ir is it colored light blue?
christianfff 1 year ago
@christianfff
That is an early 60's powder blue fender strat with binding and probably a stock
3 position pick up switch.The neck binding is rare. Didn't see a lot of that on strats.

@OGEECHEEMAN
Why is there a knob so close to the strings?
Is that factory made? That would definitively get in my way when strumming chords
take a closer look at 2:00

Cool vid. You know how when you are too drunk & you have to close one eye or squint to see one image? Ry kinda looks like that when he is playing.
