I can think of something just as impressive. John Powell can account for Brain Oldfield throwing 81 with the Spin during warm ups at one meet. Although Brian could not stay in. Now I would deffently say Brian Oldfield was completely natural and I would also say his bodya and abilities would see unnatural to the average person. So there hope out there that the human body in some cases is something of seemingly unnatural potential
i read an article, Brian said he experimented with steroids but it was sparatic. Also read hes scrapping a living and is crippled pretty well. Its pretty sad someone like that could end up in his position.
no one has proof that ulf did take roid so suck it he is the freaking man he is amazing glider! so everyone shove it up ur asses! even if he did roids then it really didnt show....
if you need proof, ulf timmerman had a 71 foot standing throw. udo beyer was also seen throwing 22 meters from a stand. this is impossible without drugs. gunthor could stand throw 21 meters. kevin akins could stand 70, and probably others. when athletes started getting tested, this stopped happening. today it is unheard of.
Yes definitely not he is well under 300lbs throwing consistently close to 76feet. Now we have gliders who are 6'9 350+lbs natural beats who can't even throw much over 70feet....
what prelevant glider today is 6' 9" and 350lbs? And those people are probably to big and unathletic. My throws coach was 6'6" 335 and a beast and only throw 56' in college. His teammate was 6'1" and 235lbs and he threw 62'. So there is no direct correlation between size and distance thrown. My bet is that 6'9" thrower your talking about needs to work on technique.
now its 300 lbs. Also Majewski and the other guy I forget his name are not nearly as good as gliders as timmmerman or gunthor. Also the guy who placed 3rd has hit 22 meters.
Yeah true but my point was that they are probably natural, while someone like timmerman who is like 6'4 250ish can stand throw over 70feet...something is not natural about that. And also now gliders are generally pretty massive, while spinners can be little smaller-yet still big- and throw far.
wheres the video of him stand throwing 70 ft? that does sound a bit alittle to good to be true. Today gliders are large but I would say they are not as good of quality as gliders in the 80's. I think the gliders in the 80's were better athletes, stronger and had much better technique. Were they doping? Honestly I do not know looking at them I would say that could be obtain naturally but again I was not there so maybe. I would like to think not.
I don't have the interview but have heard it few times on forums, randy barnes said he would be somewhat intimidated seeing some of the europeans stand close to 70feet like gunthor, beyer, and ulf I believe. Seeing as how someone like ulf threw like 76feet standing 70 doesn't seem impossible to believe. I do agree they were better athletes in general, but still the fact that a 70feet throw is winning olympics now it wouldn't have even made top 3 in late 80's so something is weird with that.
yea the olympics have been weird last couple times I was certain America was gonna sweep the medals 1,2 and 3 in 2008 I was pretty shoclked when I saw the results. The last couple olympics have been pretty subpar in comparison to other less important meets with the same competitors in them...IDK maybe these guys dont do well under pressure.
The Europeans were down & Outting in the 80's. they would put there athletes through steroid cycles and then have them compete for one olympics and end their carers before the drug tests became more advanced. Ulf should have been winning until the 90's.
I throw at the college level. I just finished my Freshmen year (red-shirted) and have 4 more years to go. Ulf is my idol and my coach taught me his coach's same principles. I'm only in the 50's at best with the 16 pound shot, though. Unlike Ulf LOL. When Randy Barnes threw 75'10&1/4'' out of a spin he was 6'4'' and 305lbs. When Ulf threw 75'8'' OUT OF A GLIDE he was 6'4 and 240lbs. Hands the hell down, Ulf Timmerman IS the best shot putter ever lived.
Randy Barnes was also roided out of his mind, but Timmermann did do roids and such also, but was not caught. Timmermann is the best competitor though, I am not against him, just stating the facts. Spin is better for bigger people, and glide is better for faster smaller people.
There's one mistake here: Adam Nelson had stronger legs than Ulf with a very similar bench and he didn't do roids: Bench 500, Squat 665x10, Cleans 350ish. I currently attend Dartmouth and throw the shot put, he graduated from here.
Pleasant personality too.........he seems friendly with everyone....like Heike Dreschler

This past olympics first and third place were by gliders who were about 6'9 the weight was a guess but most likely easily over 300.

Noone has ever proven that Ulf was on roids nor has he ever tested positive so suck it.
Donkslayer07 4 years ago 4
He was never officially tested by the NCAA or IOC for roids, but he was on them, I bet, but he was still the hardest competitor ever in the sport.
LordZuljian 3 years ago
@Donkslayer07 It is incredibly naive to think that Ulf was clean
